Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 2: Spurs vs Blazers (1-0) (Tue 04/21/2026) [7:00 CDT]

For me, the bottom line is he shouldn’t have to work that hard to get up a shot against somebody that is 13 inches shorter. The game plan should get him some much easier shots. Giannis needs to do shit like tonight because he can’t shoot. Victor can shoot.
Exactly.

He dont have to work hard to manufacture his own shot like Giannis does since he can shoot from any end of floor….

Its sooo dam easy.. Just keep O simple.

Wemby has zero footwork or goto moves in the high or low post. If fucking hrue holiday is on Timmy or Drob it'll be an automatic quick shot and bucket, if not a rapist dunk +1

is there no word in French for 'pivot foot'
He’s never going to be a back to the basket guy. But to me, it doesn’t have to be that complicated with shorter defenders. Just get him on the move or get him off some screens. The man can shoot.

FWIW, I knew Tiago was going to make some strong adjustments. He knows the Spurs system, and Mitch is just an extension of Pop at this point in his early career. Tiago needed at least one game to lock up the head coaching position.

It's a fair point but I still think the League needs to enforce some relatively light Wemby Rules to help discourage these types of plays occurring. Again, I don't think it was necessarily directly dirty but they've not really given him a clear lane because of the way they call offensive fouls on him when he tries to play his version of "bully ball". They need to be much more willing to whistle a foul early for what might be incidental contact for others, point blank. Call it favoritism, call it cheating, whatever you want; I just want Wemby healthy and playing basketball.

2000- TD knee situation: should've won a repeat that year but pop shut TD down for the POs -- didn't win again until '03. lost 3-1 to the fn suns for goodness sakes. (pop suckers say that resulted in TD staying healthy the rest of his career (He didn't.)) Going to be a big moment in Mitch history whether or not Vic comes back.
He had a torn meniscus, he obviously wasn't coming back. No way that team repeats anyways starting Jerome Kersey and having Mario Elie rendered completely obsolete with the rule changes the league implemented that season to where you couldn't breathe on guards anymore.

Like it or not this is good training for spurs fans to get used to wemby being out with injury during the playoffs

I agree the Spurs splitting the first 2 games in round one of almost every meaningful playoff run is different because Duncan was playing games 3/4. But on the flip side those teams we were playing against were much better than this Portland team. Minn with Garnett in a short series. Dallas with Dirk. A Nuggets team that had like the third best record since the all star break that year. Phoenix with Mayberry and Amare

He has no footwork or goto move facing the basket
This is so asinine, bro. Wemby makes every other big man look slow and retarded with his speed, footwork, and touch. That's why everyone puts much smaller players on him that try to displace him and basically, try to make him afraid he's going to trip or pick up an offensive foul doing simple things like a swing through because their chest is at his nuts. The problem is, this is going to cause him to be hurt. That's my practical take of the situation; the League needs to decide if they're ok with that (or him being a jumpshooter like Dirk despite having elite-tier athleticism that will bring a lot of $$$ in from casualfan).

We'll have to live with Wemby jacking 3's, that's his passion and he's not horrible at it but easy 2's was something i was hoping for with a 7'5 guy.

Bank shots, Mid range and 3 pointers should be his O. Thats his strength clearly + he needs to learn to get to sweet spots and dunks + fouls will come automatically like Luke…..

Thats it….
He has to get a lot better moving without the basketball. And there needs to be a lot of action going on in terms of sets to get him free.

It’s the playoffs. You can’t just throw him the basketball and let’s see what he does?

Mitch said Wemby didn’t go to the hospital, isn’t being treated for anything other than concussion protocol
Wish I knew what that means. Just going to give him tests tomorrow or he's out for a week? I tend to think he's not going to Portland.

Prob test him in 24 hours and again in 48, and if he passes the 48 hour test he probably travels with the team and is a game time decision Friday.

I’m sure not nearly as easy as it was Tim Duncan. But if he expects to truly get to where he wants to go as far as championships, he needs to be more coachable.
I see no indication that Wemby isn't coachable. His words and actions over the past three years show that he is very much open to feedback.

It means he can’t play until he passes whatever bullshit concussion cognitive test baseline he has. Hopefully he tanked the baseline, what a true winner would do, so he can get just get out there.
