NBA Official 2026 NBA Playoffs Thread

Man never in a million years did I expect this out of the Denver/Wolves series. Just massively weird.

The argument for suspending Rudy is fucking stupid. He clearly wanted to de-escalate. If you’re enforcing a rule meant to de-escalate a fight by suspending someone who may have technically broken it to de-escalate a fight, then it’s a stupid rule that shouldn’t be enforced.

If you suspend Rudy, then why not also Jokic. He went out of his way to confront McDaniels for doing the most basic thing in the sport - putting the ball in the basket. Maybe that’s a bad look, but Jokic ran cross court and put hands on McDaniels. That’s way more severe than what Rudy did.
There's a black and white rule about one behavior. There's not about the other. Jokic was ejected, and got his technical.

If it's a stupid rule that has to be changed, that's one thing. But you can't say that you're not going to enforce it when you've enforced it over the history of the rule.

That said, if you stepped away from the bench area to get away from a fight that was in the bench area, I don't see how that's covered by that rule in any way shape or form.

That video would make suspending Gobert and fining Jokic even worse, even if the NBA tries to claim ‘letter of the law.’

You can’t suspend Gobert who tried to break up a potential fight and only fine Jokic, who tried to start one. If Gobert’s suspended (which would be stupid), you at least have to suspend Jokic too.
Instigator is Jokic. Walks into McDaniels.

Sucks for Ant. Hate to see injuries at any point but especially at this point in the season. That said, I'd much rather face MIN without Ant or Donte than DEN tbh.

This actually gives Ant's knees some time to recover though. If they can find a way to finish off Denver, I think Ant could return later in the next series.

I would just shut it down. Even if they beat us, they won't get past OKC anyway.

Gotta take care of our games and see which team limps from the wreckage (that many here including myself predicted) from the Wolves-Nuggets bloodbath. Wouldn't surprise me to see more casualties of war from that series on the Nuggets side. Winning 3 consecutive games is no mean feat. Game 5 in Denver will be a weird one as the inevitable suspensions will re-shape that one. Game 6 back in Minny is the the real one if necessary. This version of Jokic is not what we've seen in recent years. I do love seeing them lose. Fingers crossed that Murray throws another pouting fit and throws something on the court.

Nuggs fans on social media getting cocky this morning after hearing the Ant news. Bunch of clowns. Would be sweet to kick their asses in the 2nd round.

If Denver loses in the 1st round to the hobbled 6th seed T-Wolves, I wonder what changes might happen there over the summer. It's becoming apparent that the league requires defense to be part of the equation to winning in 2026. Denver can't do it with offense alone. Not sure how you improve that team's defense. Maybe Udoka becomes a candidate if the weirdest looking coach in the NBA gets fired? I do think Denver can regroup and save face for one game at home and extend the series, especially if Gobert, Randle, etc are suspended a game. I don't think they can do it 2 more times after that. Just one man's opinion.

They're going to have to move Cam Johnson if they want to retain Peyton Watson, who's an UFA this Summer. Then they're stuck with the contracts of:

Christian Braun, whose 5-yr/$125M Extension doesn't kick in til next year (yuck).

Aaron Gordon, who still has 3-yrs/$104M remaining on his deal (not bad if he's healthy but he can't seem to stay healthy these days and he turns 31 this year).

They have the 26th Pick in this year's draft so they'll prob an older player who's ready to contribute right away. Or maybe they package that pick + Cam Johnson to try and move up in the draft. Other than that, they don't have many ways to improve tbh. They're kind of stuck with the roster they have.

That is so in character for those fans.

Some of you might be too young to remember, but Denver fans once threw coins at the Spurs because they weren't getting calls. Their coach had to get on the PA to tell them to stop.

Maybe. But the fact they had him out there the past 3 games on a knee that's clearly not healthy makes me think they won't hesitate to play him if they think he can do it tbh.
Detroit did it to Grant Hill.

While TWolves pulling another rabbit out of their ass would be ideal, a grueling 7 game series required for Denver to advance is still an excellent outcome. I wonder if Jokic gets suspended or just fined?

Effing dicks tbh :st-lol:

from what I recalled:
1) the stay on your bench rule was put in place after a suns Knicks brawl, if I remembered correctly.
2) Rudy T was cited as the reason that even if you are a peacemaker you put yourself in danger. Odd incident to cite as it happens more than a decade when the rule was implemented. But it may have been from the media, don’t remember exactly.
3) Ewing stepped on the line in a game vs Miami. Argument that him stepping over the line didn’t put anyone in danger. Ewing was still suspended but rule was updated to vicinity of bench area.
4) Horry check happened and those fairy suns loving media were crying a river. Stern told them to shove it. Nothing was updated.

I’d be disappointed if gobert isn’t suspended in this. He clearly broke the rule which was in place for 33 years, updated almost 30 years ago, tested almost 20 years ago, and upheld with no exceptions throughout. If there’s anyone to blame it’s gobert being stupid and the wolves staff not keeping players in check. Btw I don’t hate gobert, I’ve never understood the hate for him and felt he has been unfairly criticized.

Jokic rushed over, but I don’t see him starting the scrum, mcdaniels pulled his jersey first.

Randle most definitely escalated this crap.

That rule was created by Stern after some Knicks ran off the bench during the 94 Bulls-Knicks brawl in game 3 of that series. Stern was actually at the game and afterwards wanted to suspend some of the Knicks for running off the bench but there was no rule for it so he fined all of the Knicks for coming off the bench and then after the playoffs was over he created that rule.

True story: Brian Williams, who was called for the foul on Robinson in that clip and then T'd up for his reaction, later changed his name to Bison Dele and abruptly retired from the NBA in 2000, leaving $35 Million on the table to sail the world instead. He was murdered 2 years later along with his girlfriend by his older brother while at sea after setting sail from Tahiti. The bodies were never found. Pretty crazy story tbh.
