Misc MISC Spurs 2025-26 Season Thread

Didn't realize DJG can do that. Sochan, I thought is more annoying than anything enforcer wise, but, the Spurs haven't been a winning team before so maybe he can fill that role? I've never thought of him as an enforcer, though. He always seemed more talk to me than someone that'd take action if pushed to that point.
He’s not an enforcer, he’s a provocateur. I remember in his rookie season we were playing the Mavs, and during a time out as the teams were crossing to their benches, he reached out and tweaked Luka’s nipple.

yeah i think provocateur is a much better descriptor than enforcer, though at the same time Sochan also isnt the type who will accept getting punked

Was that against Luka? Thought he did that to Steven Adams. Unless he's just a serial nipple pincher :st-lol:

He might have done it to both, for all I know. I personally would never do anything that might upset Steven Adams.

He definitely did it to Adams in a game against Memphis:

"In the last play of the game, he was messing me around — pinching me and stuff," Adams said. "I was like, 'Get out of here, dude!' … He pinched my nipple. I was like, 'Get out of here, ya dirty bastard!' Trying to break my concentration."

That's hilarious. Adams, by all accounts I know of, is a good dude with a level head. Sochan also knows on the court he isnt going to take a beating from a dude like Adams for small stuff.

Sochan would be fine if he would just become a serviceable shot maker.

Steven Adams will one day retire and I'll be sad he was never a Spur

I just listened to the "Dunc'd On" Spurs season preview: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/282436/Duncd-On-SAS-Season-Outlook-with-Jared-Weiss

Jared Weiss said that his understanding is that Pop isn't much involved at all with the team right now. If true, that would be encouraging to me, both for Pop (who should focus on his health) and for the franchise (which should move on from post-stroke Pop).

Duncan's realistic case prediction for the Spurs was 41 wins, Weiss had them at 42 wins.

People often say that preseason doesn't mean anything, and I don't entirely disagree with the statement. Just to be sure however, and after our very satisfying 5-0 record, I thought I would check what happened to teams of previous years who ended up with a perfect record during the preseason.
I was able to find records back to the 2004-05 season, so we got a 20 years sample size.

During that time, 14 teams had a 5-0 or better record (up to 8-0):
- Only 2/14 eventually missed the playoffs (both of whom had a 8-0 record surprisingly)
- 6/14 got eliminated in the 1st round
- 3/14 got eliminated in the Conference Semifinals
- 2/14 got eliminated in the Conference Finals
- 1/14 won the NBA Title (2022 Warriors)

=> That's an 85.7% chance to make the Playoffs.

Now If I widen the search to teams who had a 3-0 record or better (27 teams):
- 5/27 missed the playoffs
- 10/27 got eliminated in the 1st round
- 5/27 got eliminated in the Conference Semifinals
- 5/27 got eliminated in the Conference Finals
- 2/27 won the NBA Title

=> Still an 81.5% chance to make the Playoffs.

By the way, the last time the Spurs had a perfect record in the preseason (3-0 in 2005) we won the NBA Title!

To conclude, that's not a huge enough sample to be very reliable (doesn't take into account season injuries & stuff) but it still doesn't seem to be completely irrelevant. Here's the full breakdown below:
