Yup that's the major concern with him. There's obvious talent there to be developed and molded, but if that 3PT shot never develops, then he'd likely be another bust and a wasted pick. The FT% is a big red flag to me though, and doesn't really make sense given how nice his touch is on his midrange turnaround J.I'm not keen on taking another non-shooter like Koa Peat, especially I'm wary of bad free throw shooters whose misses from 3 are all over the place. If the Spurs had better spacing overall then maybe, I think he's a lot more talented on offense than Sochan, but the good news is the draft will be after the playoffs and Spurs' shooting will for sure be thoroughly tested, and I'd expect that result to be a key input into their drafting strategy.
I don't think he'll be a bust, I see a solid NBA player but one who in the Spurs could result in diminishing returns given the context. At the end of the day if you can't develop him on the rookie scale deal it's a loss either way.Yup that's the major concern with him. He could* be a solid player in time if he develops his shot, but undersized PF's who can't shoot the 3 are pretty antiquated players. And it's not like he's an elite rebounder or shot-blocker or anything either. He's a solid rebounder but nothing spectacular, and he doesn't block a ton of shots either. Idk. There's talent there no doubt, and maybe he becomes a good role player down the line, but I'd rather roll the dice on a safer prospect personally.I don't think he'll be a bust, I see a solid NBA player but one who in the Spurs could result in diminishing returns given the context. One of the things about NIL that's made March Madness a little different is that the top teams are too good. I don't think we're going to be seeing double digit seeds making the final four anymore, top end talent is just too good. Like, there's no way more than 4-5 teams in the country can realistically deal with a Mara-Yaxel-Morez frontcourt. It probably makes for better games in the later rounds because there's more high quality basketball being played, but the Cinderella story is probably all but gone moving forward.
Also, I wonder if college coaches of big programs should be hiring mini-GMs to help build their teams and look for undervalued talent in the transfer portal, since NIL has basically made the upper echelon of college basketball into a mini-NBA with 1 year contracts.
Agreed. I'm a Texas fan and we made it to the Sweet 16 this year as an 11-Seed which was awesome before ultimately losing to Purdue at the buzzer, but I also knew that we wouldn't have stood a chance against Arizona's loaded team had we advanced. Arizona of course blew Purdue out of the building last night. The teams that have spent heavy in NIL and have really high-end talent across the board like Arizona, Duke, Michigan, etc. are just too stacked. These lowers seeds simply don't have the horses to compete. One of the things about NIL that's made March Madness a little different is that the top teams are too good.
