I think you're not giving Toronto enough credit for its appeal as a market, especially to an international player (and especially in the current sociopolitical environment).
That where I think he should want to go. I'd be his team and the favorite in the East.

Funniest scenario I saw posited... Lakers, with the help of Silver, use LeBron's expiring max slot to land Giannis while LeBron goes to college under these new found eligibility rules :st-lol:

I definitely think they'll work to send him where he wants, but only to a point. So even if he were interested in the Raptors, why would the Bucks have any interest in their combination of bloated contracts, mediocre prospects and with him, projected non lottery picks?

Well, wherever he goes - those are going to be non-lotto picks unless it's to ATL in exchange for those NOP/MIL picks.

This is absolutely the trade MIL *should* be trying to make, IMO (and more picks on top if they can swing it)

There's really no way to know, but my guess is that he thinks we are the easiest route to more titles.

I don't really want him. I like Giannis the player a lot, but he seems a bit two faced (sounds like he wanted Lillard gone, but wouldn't admit to it, and if what Scott said is true and he didn't talk to him much, that's pretty shitty).

You forgot the part where immediately Milwaukee gets the no. 1 pick somehow, even though it's logically impossible for them to do so (Atlanta has swap rights on them). :st-makemyday:

If I’m Giannis and I truly want to compete I wouldn’t come to the West unless I got moved for spare shit, salary match, and draft picks. Any team that guts themselves and depth in this conf for a star is in for a hard time.

Knicks or Hawks make the most sense for him

Bron going for his masters? Thought his four years in Miami were his going away to college.

Giannis is a chronically annoying person. He doesn’t have a connection to reality with his career. Like saying he has no authority over his agent. Obviously not true but there he goes saying it.

In that Amazon documentary there was this bit where he said something to the effect of him needing to stay just as driven as he always has been because his family’s future is on the line. What weirdo shit is that to say when you have 9 figures in the bank and none of your future earnings are in doubt whatsoever.

He just says dramatic, false shit all the time. Like how he’s not getting the ball enough from his teammates this year, there’s another one.

I think it’s not enough for him to win. He’ll need to win and make it about his own story. And I think he’ll burn everything down to make it that way, because he’s kind of a child.

So many problems with the idea. Which is too bad because it would be a hell if a ride.

Heat most sense to me. They can probably make the best offer; Herro, Ware, matching salary, and a mid-ish 1st would be a great get at this point. Not sure if Heat are willing to part with Ware, but I've seen others mention it. And Giannis loses in court of public opinion if he has a beef about the destination.

If that’s all it takes to get Giannis, then im definitely calling Bucks. Thats offer basically Devin, Kornett, Sochan/filler and the Hawks swap.

People complaining and I get it as Im not a fan of it either but have yall considered that maybe Wemby has requested this behind close doors?

That's the only rational explanation I can think of with the Spurs being this interested in making this trade.

Giannis got those lebron vibes about him.

Incredible talent who can carry a team. True two way player.

Also a diva, passive aggressive and never takes responsibility when things go wrong.

Not much interest for him at this stage of his career. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Who cares if Wemby is a Simp for this Drama Queen

“After the MRI, they will tell me probably I popped something in my calf. Probably give me a protocol of 4-6 weeks that I’ll be out. This is from my experience being around the NBA... Come back probably end of February, beginning of March. Hopefully the team can at least make the play-in.”

Giannis is not only a Hall of Fame, NBA top-three talent, but he also has the ability to diagnose and predict his injury before seeing a doctor. He even tells everyone how long his rehabilitation will take..

Your not a Spurs Fan if you want this shit all over again after having been through the exact same bull shit with Kawhi

"wemby wants it"

Yeah, and So...?

Wemby's not the GM. If he is unsatisfied with the level of talent around him he's nuts and he has earned no right to pass the buck onto others for losses when he has thrown up some real stinkers lately. After seeing the moves LeBron pushed on the Cavs and the Lakers and Kawhi on the Clippers I have no desire to see Victor be GM here. I'd be pretty surprised if Victor would ever insist on the Spurs trading for Giannis tbh, as the Spurs seem like they were always Victor's first choice and he had to know he would not have GM power here based on the franchise's history and reputation.

Agreed Victor hasn't played consistently at an MVP level yet where he can really assert that type of control over management.

Wemby will be 100% in on this team until we stink and lose our optionality. Once you run out of moves and are looking at the play in, then your star has to go - in a mutual way.

This is the only scenario where we lose Vic.

I don't think he's lying at all on that one - but I get why you would think that. Giannis was born in a very poor Greece, and the environment where you spend your 0-18 years is the formative feeling that defines you.

From the way he talks at least, it's obvious that Giannis doesn't consider himself a true millionaire or "made" or whatever. It could be 10 figures in his bank and he'd still be trying to "secure his family's future" because there's just not a material price point to that feeling. Same way LeBron doesn't pay for Spotify Premium (which is the more idiotic thing to do tbh).

You nailed it about him having a childish outlook to some things though, and it's one reason I wouldn't like him on the Spurs. Seems like a very "you're either with me, or against me" type of dude, and that's a very annoying personality to deal with in any working environment.

This is all part of why I can’t buy into the reasoning that Giannis would be trying to force his way here so he can ramp down and play second fiddle to Wemby. Giannis doesn’t strike me as a guy who’s had a recent spiritual enlightenment :st-lol:

I don’t think he’s lying or being disingenuous. He’s genuinely a weird man child. Maybe because he grew up different, but you give most poor people a few hundred mill and they aren’t gonna feel poor much longer.

We talked about this elsewhere, but I also think everyone’s fear of Wemby asking out are so overblown at this point that it drives people into wanting to take some irrational steps.

I think there is a higher likelihood that Wemby just retires early (like at the end of his rookie extension early) to pursue his other curiosities in life than of him asking out because we don’t put a good enough team around him.

With that said, that scenario (even if it’s only a 0.01% chance) begs the same quetstion, or whether you should be trying to win sooner.

We all have very justified gripes about the way the team is being managed right now (despite our record), but in my opinion we’re on a really nice pace for bringing the team along with Wemby. However, I do think we COULD go faster if we wanted. We hear folks say “we aren’t winning this year anyway, so be patient…” well why the fuck can’t we win this year? We definitely aren’t going to win if we don’t even give ourselves a shot.

Giannis has been quite vocal praising Victor and Victor had some nice comments about him too in particular in his rookie year but you can find some those kind of quotes for every top players in the league.

That's Victor last quote about Giannis and his situation with the Bucks:

"I'm trying to learn as much as I can, even though you have to acknowledge that every situation, every story is different - even more so for foreign players like us. I'm nobody to judge how his career has unfolded. I have a lot of respect for what he's doing on the court and what he continues to do.

I think he still has quite a few years ahead of him, and I'm very curious to see how the next chapter of his career will play out"

I'm sure Giannis would love to play with Victor and vice versa but I don't think conditions are favourable enough. It will cost the Spurs Castle or Harper for sure, there are doubts about Giannis health, for Giannis it would be easier to play in the east and he has maybe the wish to play for a big market. Now if the Spurs were in a win now mode, you could make a case counting on a rested and acclimated Giannis (return beginning of March) for a PO push. Spurs are doing the necessary due diligences for sure... a starting 5 would be something like Victor, Giannis, Fox, Champ and Vassell with KJ and Harper (or Castle) off the bench I mean this is food for thoughts but it would be a one shot thing with no guarantee of success... not Spurs like at all
