Honestly, I'm kind of glad is playing out this way and not because I hate Giannis or the Bucks. Quite the contrary... Giannis brought those fans a chip, and we all know how precious those are to small market teams. I'd like to see him retire a Buck, and if I were a Bucks fan I'd be happy to see it too even if it meant we were mid. I would not have wanted to trade Timmy in his last two years just to reload and extend the window. All eras eventually come to an end, I'll be happy to see the small market hero be a career 1-team guy.

With that said, I also love chaos and major trades that shake up the league... so I've got my popcorn out either way :st-lol:
Yeah I would not have traded even 2016 Tim Duncan on zero good knees for even 2016 Steph Curry having the GOAT regular season.

The reports are saying that the Klutch Sport CEO Rich Paul wants to represent him.

Barnes/Olynyk/Sochan/Castle and Hawks picks for Giannis, tbh.
I'd rather keep Castle. He's in a slump right now but he's 20 and I expect another big leap from him next season. At 23 or 24 this guy is gonna be Prime Alvin Roberston minus the off the court bullshit and the Spurs will regret the fuck out of trading him. While Giannis is starting to look like David or Shaq the way they started breaking down in their thirties.

I wouldn't trade for Giannis, but it's Klutch Sport CEO Rich Paul's world, tbh.

giannis should have been traded over the summer and basically everybody knew it. i didnt think the lillard/giannis combo was ever going to win, but as soon as lillard tore his achilles hitting reset was the obvious move regardless of what you felt about their chances

instead they stretched lillard and thought myles turner was going to be good enough. just sheer stupidity on their part, and now theyve fucked themselves

If Giannis gets moved right now, the holders of their picks just hit the lotto

2026 -> MIL has the less favorable of MIL and NOP (ATL gets the other). Good chance this ends up being MIL's natural pick, but MIL is essentially capped out from Pick #1.
2027 -> More favorable of MIL and NOP goes to NOP, the other to ATL if 5-30, NOP gets both if both are Top 4
2028 -> bunch of swaps at play here but basically I think POR or WAS gets the best of things and MIL ends up with something fairly mid
2029 -> bunch of swaps, but POR gets the best and MIL gets nothing
2030 -> POR has swap rights

Absolutely screwed until 2031 unless ATL or NOP are part of this trade

Thought you were kidding lol. Rich Paul just can't help himself. If he can somehow get Giannis to the Spurs for pennies on the dollar ala Fox then I'm all for it though (highly unlikely). Prob not willing to give up Castle for 31 year-old Giannis though tbh. Those recurring calf injuries scare me. He's now had 4 calf injuries in 3 years. Given his usage and how physicals game is, could see him really starting to break down within a year or two tbh.

Desperation make people do stupid things. GM's are no exception. Not easy giving up the greatest player in your franchise's history sans Kareem. But yea, selling high on him last offseason was clearly the right move. Now they won't get as much in return (though they'll prob still get a decent haul) and they're stuck paying Dame for the next few years. Just dumb.

Think Giannis ends up staying in the East though. Knicks or Raptors would be my guess. Maybe ATL. Miami's always lurking too.

Curious as to the logic for why Rich Paul would want to get Giannis to SA. I understand getting Fox here... but Giannis makes less sense to me from an agent POV, even if it were somehow an attempt to earn Wemby's business.

gives giannis a way to ramp down while still competing for titles

If Giannis tanks his value like Fox did and we get him for 25 cents on the dollar similar to Fox I guess I would be interested. Not sure what’s going the picks would look like in this scenario.

I think it assumes that Giannis wants to get to SA and RP is telling him he can make it happen to entice him to become a client.

So what's the logic for Giannis wanting to come to SA? @spurraider21 raises an interesting angle, but personally I don't find it overly compelling because I don't perceive Giannis as someone interesting in ramping down or being a 2nd star... but I could be wrong.

And... for what it's worth (which is not much)... I know someone who is close to someone who is close to Dame (Cousin's sister's boyfriend's hair dresser type shit, I know)... and apparently Dame hated it in MIL because Giannis is kind of a dick and didn't even attempt to establish a relationship with Dame.

The Knicks offer a glamor market and All-NBA lead guard.

The Hawks offer a popular among players market, a high pick in a loaded draft (I don't think they'll do it though) and the sheen of a recent 1st overall pick.

The Heat offer a glamor market, stable organization and All-Star caliber center who fits with him.

The Raptors can't offer any of these things, nor the kind of expendable asset good enough to be the centerpiece of a package for a superstar.

I think you're not giving Toronto enough credit for its appeal as a market, especially to an international player (and especially in the current sociopolitical environment).

athletes are immune to most if not all social goings-on, like most of the super rich. I doubt any of the ICE stuff factors into what any of these guys do. Most are like Anthony Edwards with a dgaf stance I’m willing to bet.

Rich Paul is a pestilence

Same reason he wanted Fox here. Because Wemby is considered a generational prospect who is expected to be playing deep into May and June for much of the next decade so a lot of good marketing opportunities while playing for titles. Lotta money to be made riding the Wemby gravy train even if he can't sign Wemby himself.

I'm not criticizing the city, I'm saying from a players perspective, name the last star who wanted to be in that market.

Also, if that were part of his decision, then he'd have been trying to get traded to them, not the Knicks, last off season.

I think for most stars that is likely true... I think for international players there may be a significant difference in perception of Toronto in particular

Whether or not that's legit it's definitely some bullshit the way Giannis is stringing the Bucks on. If you want out just say it instead of letting them wreck their franchise trying to keep you happy. But no he wants it to be their fault, like when he bitched to the media about them cutting Lillard after making it clear he wanted them to do whatever necessary to try to strengthen the team now. Another reason I don't want him on the Spurs. He's kind of a diva, almost half a Kawhi.

There's really no way to know, but my guess is that he thinks we are the easiest route to more titles.
