We're Chipping This Year

I think the Knicks can punk us tbh.
People figured out that you just put a much bigger defender on a Brunson. He’s not quick enough to blow by them, and they bother his shot. Cleveland was the first team I saw do it, with Dean Wade.

And we have multiple Brunson defenders to keep him occupied whenever he's on the floor.
Castle and Harper can bully him, Fox is way faster and doesn't get beaten to his spots.
Then on the other end, Knicks can't hide Brunson on anyone other than maybe Champ who just shoots over him.
Everyone else can easily take him off the dribble like he's not even there.

It is natural for us to be excited about a potential POs run but we should hold our horses a bit tbh... last time Spurs were in POs was 7 years ago. The only team winning after 7 years droughts is the Celtics after KG and Allen acquisition, a notable recent example is 20-21 Suns who reached finals after a 10 years PO drought. This kind of turnaround is obviously the exception especially for a very young team (Celtics were full of vets and Suns had CP3), our only vet is Barnes :st-lol: oh and we have a newbie coach.

So one day at a time, let's secure dat second seed and try to get through a first round before thinking of chipping
Ya, we have zero clue how people will actually respond in the playoffs, players or coaching staff tbh. It's a completely diff animal than regular season, and I havn't seem much in terms of us being able to adjust mid series if things aren't going well. We also aren't gonna go far is Fox keeps scoring in the teens every game, like it or not.
We are looking sharp and going out in the first round would def be a huge disappointment for example, but I'm gonna hold off on the "WCF/Finals" expectations for a while still lol

Exciting times regardless

And Fox and Kornet, and even Olynik.

Honestly that Suns example is more encouraging than not -- they didn't only reach the Finals, they were up 2-0 on the Bucks before a historical chokejob (along with historical performances, like G7 Giannis) took place.

Sure, the chokejob well may have been due to the lack of experience, but I'm choosing to believe it was karma calling on CP3's number again :st-lol: the Spurs may have better luck there

There is clearly another level the Spurs must get to in order to win the chip.. The good news the talent is there to get to that next level. But can our coach get to the next level? And by April?

All depends on health and how we're playing going into the playoffs.

Stop jinxing us.

If we can learn how to make our FTs consistently, actually cover the 3pt line, and limit our turnovers, we will be extremely difficult to beat in a 7 game series.

We have two months to correct another big issue. We need to learn how to maintain large leads when we get them. We need to learn how to break their will to compete once we get that large lead.

2014 - Seahawks won Super Bowl
2014 - Spurs won Championship
2026 - Seahawks won Super Bowl
2026 - ???? Perhaps the stars are aligning for them to chip
I’m a Seahawks fan so this would be icing on top!! I’m on a high right now and the Spurs are over performing. Really good year so far

One huge advantage that we have is the institutional knowledge and infrastructure of a Championship level franchise for 20 yrs. I don't think anyone else really has the corporate knowledge and the team that is ready now. One championship is very different than a franchise who has won multiple trophies. We still may shit the bed this year, but, the pieces are in place to give us a great chance to succeed and even overachieve. Also, I'd be paying the Guard Whisperer whatever he wants to be a permanent member of the Spurs staff with a no compete clause. I actually think Fox and Wemby could benefit from his training. Harper is a no-brainer.

I think with almost any champion, no matter how good the team, the stars still have to align one way or another.
no injuries, avoiding certain teams, injuries to opponents, etc.

This years spurs team is growing before our very eyes and they are realizing how good they can be.
Players like Vassell and KJohnson and even Fox right now are on a high and are extremely motivated due to past failures. Their hunger is there and will not go away. And that will help us.

Younger guys like Castle and Harper are motivated i'm sure in their own way.

And we all know that Wemby is on a quest to become the all time great. As he gets older, every year that goes by without a championship will be a failure in his books. So we know that he will be locked in.

It's just a matter of making the big play when it matters most, limiting turnovers and playing smart basketball.

If we peak at the right time and face OKC in the WCF I think we will have a great shot to win it all. That series would be a bloodbath, but, that makes it all the more worthwhile. I don’t think any Eastern Conference team could beat us 4 times. It’s so hard to gauge this team because of their youth and untapped potential. Stay healthy and continue growing and the championships will follow. I’m actually more worried about our 1st round opponent than later rounds.

My cautious expectation is that we're more like the 2024 Thunder. We're way ahead of schedule in development, but we're still technically in development. Which is pretty wild!

The Playoffs are a different beast and will be a completely new experience for most of our guys.

But with that said, I'm not having an easy time thinking of a team that is an absolute lock to beat us 4 out of 7 times.

As long as that absurd January 3 pts shooting slump don't occur in a playoffs series...I will take our chance against anyone.

Thus far....yes we have close losses against mediocre teams which we are favorite to win, but this team has also always bring their A game against big teams. With focus, they should be able match the playoffs intensity as the West conference is really loaded

KOC still think drafting Harper is a mistake and Spurs should have traded down for Kon. Although he acknowledges that Harper should still be the better player over Kon in the long term

We don't win last night without Harper

So, he's a moron.
A team that had the second longest playoff drought in the league shouldn't have drafted the BPA is what he's saying.

There’s just something about this crew. Castle and Wemby are an unstoppable defensive duo. I can sense it yall. We’re just too deep, too strong, too long, too damn good! Pop’s system never left.

Think what we're seeing is he wasn't bpa...instead of harpers 5 we coulda had kons 21

I mean basically OKC and Detroit stands in our way. We're a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander injury away from being the favorites.
