Back when I was a kid, my uncle gifted me a g-shock and I've been rolling with let's call them utility watches ever since.

I can't go outside without a watch, got a tan line even during the winter.

My current daily is a GG-B100-8A Mudmaster, used Suunto Core Black for like 12 years before that and it's still good, I think 3 or 4 straps in.

Not really into formal watches, somehow I always stratch the bezels, I guess because I'm left-handed.

Got a couple that were gifted to me, but rarely wear them.

And I detest smart watches, would never wear. And they'd be useless since I don't wear them at home and all the tracking data would get messed up.

G-Shocks are great watches. Some people put them in the "Field Watch" category (like the Hamilton I posted above). I have a G-Shock GSG-100-1A that I got from Costco, it was a great price and I couldn't resist getting a watch with a GSG model number :st-lol:. I put a paracord strap on it that is more comfortable than the stock strap, but man it's so bulky I feel like I'm wearing handcuffs when I wear it.

There are lot of folks out there who are G-Shock collectors, and some of the digital ones have quite a following. Personally I hate digital watches, but I respect the folks who are into them! I wasn't familiar with the Suunto Core Black (since I'm not into digital watches), but that's a pretty cool functional watch!

I am kind of late to the watch game, but I fell in love with them after digging into and understanding the mechanics of how they work. I love the intersection of science and art at play with these pieces.

Had a G-Shock Referee model when I coached travel soccer. Really enjoyed it and got a couple others, then moved on to Samsung Galaxy watches for the Health tracking, mostly.

I don't know shit about watches and I used to wear them a lot as a teen but that was during the time when cell phones were taking off and we could eventually use our phones to look up at the time. Once cell phones took off and I had one, I used to wonder what's the point of watches.

Fast forward time and I still don't know shit about watches but i started to want one more for aesthetics than usability. It's part of my wardrobe as an accessory piece and I just like the look of them.

I only have one and I bought it while I'm Japan in a six hour layover. I should had waited and bought it here in the US because it seems I could've find it cheaper here but fuck it, the watch now comes with a story and I can honestly say I bought a Seiko watch in Japan.

That’s a great watch @NASpurs! I don’t know what you paid but there are entire YouTube channels dedicated to watch shopping in Japan because you can get some insane deals on Japanese watches (aside from having access to JDMs) considering the availability there and exchange rates (these days)

I’ve seen people regularly scoring Seiko watches that would be $300-500 here for less than $100 in Japan.

Of course, 6 years ago in the airport may have been a different story… either way, you have a great watch! A Seiko Prospex Diver!

I paid like $875 a year ago which doesn't seem bad for a new Seiko Prospex Diver 6R35-00P0. That seems what's the going rate in the used market ( more or less).

I know about watches as much as sochan knows how to shoot, but I just say @scott, that’s one freaking hairy Sasquatch arm you have there.
the dark tattoos underneath definitely make it look even hairier... but... yeah, I got a little bit of fur

that's crazy expensive, it normally is 150$ watch.. i remember last year going into Ho Chi Minh airport and finding a gshock for 900$ or more depending on the model.. was so shocked, when I reached the Mauritius the week after, I bought the same gshock for 300$. The price discrepancies can be mindblowing, I imagine now with tariffs it is even less balanced.

Nice Christopher Ward! How do you like it? I've looked at a view of their pieces. That rubber strap looks nice with that dial
you get the oysterflex included and there's more relatively cheap straps you can pick.. the main one is the steel one of course, and it is the one i almost always wear. I find the watch perfectly sized and comfortable and I have 0 worries of scratching it, I have like 1 small scratch in a year.

There is no world where that Prospex Diver is a $150 watch other than a random second hand shop in Japan. Market value for a second hand piece is around $750.

is this some special edition? this looks like the generic one to me, i can find plenty of prospex for 290 pounds right now.. and i now seikos price doubled in the last few years

Cheapest Prospex these days (US prices) list around $550. You can go gray market and get for about $100 less. You can get an automatic Seiko 5 with a rotating bezel and 50M of water resistance for about $150 though.

now it's technically not the same and not 150$ either, but i wonder why the discrepancy.

It's about the watch movement in this case. Mine is the 6R35:

"The Seiko 6R35 is a reliable, mid-tier automatic watch movement known for its impressive 70-hour power reserve, a significant upgrade over older models like the 6R15, offering extended timekeeping when fully wound. It features 24 jewels, operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (vph), and is found in many popular Seiko Prospex, Presage, and King Seiko models, providing excellent performance for everyday wear. "
