Player The Theater Marquee of Plumdog Millionaire

I think the front office realized how bad Kelly O and Biyombo are and decided we needed reinforcements.
I’ll give them a pass on Olnynik, because he was just a convenient way to dispose of two failed draft picks, but they intentionally signed Biyambo, like he could play.

Looks like Mason Plumlee underwent successful right groin surgery in December 2025 that required 2 months recovery so the ramp up once SA acquired him for the rest of the season was more than just return from rust conditioning.

Sounds like he recovered from surgery as well. Pretty impressive commitment for a 36 year old to get back into game shape.

Did plumlee best the drum in both the clippers and Celtics games?

Yeah, I didn't want to say it, but it looks like there is a reason he reached out to the Spurs than the other way around.

It seems he's Plum-dud so far. I hope it's just rust and learning the Spurs' system, and he can at least be helpful in situations that call for it (foul trouble, if Luke needs games off, adding physicality in games that call for it if/when the other team is crossing the line etc.).
He was supposed to be a guy to stop Bismack from getting any in-game minutes, but doesn't look like he's much better from the little we've seen.

Given he's 36 years old, with lots of mileage under him who was dependent on his athletic traits, it's not a surprise he is pretty much done. I don't think he is as washed as Biz, but fact is he has played in like 30 games in the last 3 seasons, dealing with injuries and such, I am not holding out hope he will be our saviour right away. Maybe he has to round himself into shape and as long as he can give us 5 minutes a game I am happy.

At this point, the Spurs should look for a PF who can set good picks, can shoot from outside, and can slot into a 3rd string center role if need be. I would love to have a Okongwu type but that is just a pipe dream. Hawks aren't giving him up, he's too expensive (sort of), and I doubt he wants to be on the Spurs where he'd be, at best, the 5th option.

Some players come to mind:
1) Brandon Clarke - Coming off an injury, he also can't shoot much and way too undersized to be a 3rd string center, but I like how he brings energy to the game, and he is somewhat of a rim protector.(3-4% BLK% is very good).
2) Beef Stew - Too good, too crazy for the role.
3) Mouhamed Gueye - Decent rim protector, got good size, a bit stiff and slow in movements, very good rebounder, not the greatest shooter, actually not the greatest anything on offence. Cheap contract, can possibly play backup 3rd string big, but not sure how much value he can bring as a PF.
4) Dylan Cardwell - Can't shoot AT ALL, strictly an inside scorer. Looks decent on screens, can protect the rim and rebounds VERY well. Would love to have him as a backup, but definitely not a solution for the PF spot.
5) Yves Missi - Seems to be getting less burn as the Pels are getting better. Can't shoot, sets decent screens, can protect the rim very well and rebounds quite well. Similar to Cardwell, but likely more expensive to get.
6) Eubanks - I wouldn't mind getting him back. Still can't shoot 3s, but his range seems to be at least up to mid-range/long 2s. OK rim protection, can rebound very well, set very good screens.

Would love to get Stewart. I was impressed with him that second game against the Spurs (his only game against them this season). If he brings controlled chaos and is able to keep the physicality under control, he'd be such a valuable player on a Championship level team.

How good do people really think third string centers are going to be?
Given all the Talls vying for an NBA job, a hell of a lot better then Biz and current Plum.
Scouting team needs to up their game.

One of the attributes Jacob and Sean talked about the first night he played was his foot speed. Made it sound like that was a positive trait for the Spurs so they can continue to play high tempo when he comes in.

A dnp-cd for Plumlee against the Kings. Seems like it would have been a good chance to see what he has after his rough 5 minutes against the Clippers.

Hopefully he gets legit playing time against opposing Cs down the stretch. It's been unfair his only PT thus far has been against small-ball lineups tbh.

he was never a good player, even in his prime, so i'm not sure what do we expect from him.

He was trying to do too much against the Clippers, especially chasing people off the 3pt line who perhaps could have just faced a Kornet Contest. If he settles down he can be a serviceable 3rd center in emergencies but hopefully he gets zero PT in the playoffs except maybe late in a blowout.

How good do people really think third string centers are going to be?
Not very, but I do think we F'ed up at the trade deadline. Outbidding Atlanta (cash considerations) for Jock Landale wouldn't have taken more than a SRP (+ cash considerations)... And Jock would have been much better insurance (vs a Kornet injury) than Plumlee. (I think it also would have cost the Hawks a win or two; Jock's been really quite good for them.)

I think Landale wanted more playing time than 3rd string center.
