Player The restricted-age video store section of Dylan Harper

Harper needs to develop a reliable jumper and he'll be fine, if he can shoot 47-50% at the mid range and 35-38% for three, with his ability to get into the paint and his court vision, we have our point guard. We also need Castle to develop his 3-point range and we have our shooting guard. Now let's go get our starting PF

Those numbers would make him all NBA. He’d be fucking unstoppable.

People underestimating Kon obviously haven't watched him play.
I don't want to get ahead of myself, but he looks like a complete wing in the making.
His decision making is already great, he plays at his own pace and can do a bit of everything.

To make another questionable comparison, he should be Hayward 2.0.
And I'd be happy if we drafted him.
It's just that Harper has obvious superstar potential and can easily develop into one of the best players in the league.
Harper was still the better pick long term for the spurs. Harper is going to be the future pg and has the higher upside than Kon.
I have confidence in Harper improving his perimeter shooting than Kon breaking past his defenders and finishing at the rim.

When you pay any attention him, you can subtract him from the game. No doubles or gimmick shit, just basic man on ball defense. Castle and Harper outshot him, totalling 3-5 to his 1-2.

He’s a very good shooter, but very much a complementary player.

lol, that's brilliant. Rookie of the year? Mitch will just send him to lockup instead.

Yea I don't get it, Harper combines the size of Castle with the natural on ball instincts of Fox and yet he is getting 21 mpg. You'd figure its because of defense as rookies usually need work there but he more than competes on D, he is actually good at it. I just don't like this trend and it feels like Mitch saying "we're just so good that you have to wait your turn" which is ridiculous.

You don't give the "bring along slowly" treatment to the 2nd pick of the draft (in a strong draft too) unless the kid clearly needs lots of work. Dylan has had his share of rough stretches but he has also had awesome stretches like any rookie does ( and Wemby still does). We only got Harper because we were a bad team last year (due to injuries with lottery luck sprinkled in), Dylan should be getting 26-28 mpg as a baseline and more when he is feeling it.

Philly started VJ Edgecombe on night 1 and haven't wavered from that (averaging 36 mpg). I hate to make this a Harper vs Castle thing because ultimately it shouldn't be, they are very different players but Mitch is trying to use them the same. Mitch is force feeding Castle as if he is some jumbo top flight on ball talent to develop who needs reps ala Cade, Harden, Ant etc. Castle isn't going to be that guy no matter how much the ball is in his hands.

It seems the Spurs promised Castle and his representation that they viewed him as their lead guard of the future and don't have it in them to change course, despite having two superior and higher upside creators now.

There's been a handful of games where Harper clearly deserved to close but didn't because of seniority/politics. Maybe they can get through the rest of this season with him and his representation playing nice, but I'd be surprised if they're willing to beyond that.

When Harper gets to his jumper he's unstoppable. He's able to get wherever he wants and the jumper prevents him from getting blocked.

Spurs don’t do that. People said the same thing about Barnes starting, and that fucking ended today.

Actually, I kind of agree with Raven here. Turning Castle into a 3 gives up the majority of his physical advantage. That will reduce his value as a player (and his career earnings, awards, etc). It's much more optimal for both team and player for Castle to develop into a 1 (or at least a two)... Yes this development process will be painful. But given his work ethic, and his demonstrated ability to see good passes, I think he will get there (just like TP9 did, it just took several years and lots of reps).

In the meanwhile, were I running the team, after the all-star break, I would make Fox the primary ball handler in the starting line-up, to ramp up for the play-offs...

I know, but how many times do you guys need to be wrong about it to accept it? Stop hurting Castle by making him a catch and shooter ffs

So what do you do with Dylan if Steph is going to be the 1 and De'Aaron the 1 too?

If we think that Wemby, Castle and Harper are going to be max players or close, those are the numbers that I'm expecting. Fox is shooting 55% from 2 and 36% from 3 and I don't think that he deserves the max with his current production.

Ideally, Fox would play the 2 as he is better suited to play off ball for stretches. Imo Castle should start at the 1 and Champ start at 2, and Dylan + Fox should be paired so they can get Kornet to perform, given that Wemby is a bit of a different beast.

It's just so wiered seeing a 2nd pick in the lottery getting so little minutes. Remember there was even talk that he's actually a 1st pick had not Cooper Flag been in the draft.
