Player The restricted-age video store section of Dylan Harper

Id love Gary Payton to tutor Harper even for just a short time

learn those defensive point guard skills

then learn point guard offense from Chris Paul

and then the unconventional attack styles of Manu

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Another great, steady game from him tonight - I'm already growing used to expecting the rookie PG to play a floor general role :st-lol:

Had one very audacious lob/deep entry pass that I thought was totally ill advised and surely stripped, but hit the mark with precision. The kid is just special, a bit like Doncic in that you can see that supernatural hand/eye coordination that lets them "have the ball on a string". He just goes downhill, jumps, and figures it out, and it goes in every time lol.

Now imagine a few years of getting mentored by Manu off-court and Fox on it, and having to go against Wemby in practice..... :st-clap:

I think he can be a combination of Harden, Manu, and Kyrie. He has the elite ball handling and slashing skills. All he needs is to have a consistent jump shot. If he can do that then we are talking about him also being an MVP level player in the future.

MVP chants could get a little awkward at home games.

He wasn’t needed to do much but us constantly having Fox, castle, Harper on the floor is devastating. Just wave after wave of guys attacking the basket. Defenses can’t take a breath

tbh this is unfair :st-lol:

Is there any other teams in nba history that has this kind of 3 legit slashers depth? I can't think of 1 except the Phoenix team that had Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas. But of course they are nowhere close to our slash brothers + Fox

Laker fans would chant MVP all the time during the 3 peat years when Kobe and Shaq were at the free throw line. I don't see it being any different than that if Harper gets to being an MVP level player. You will just hear multiple MVP chants for both Victor and him during home games.

Also Vassell...............a quaternity of attacking options

That pass was actually relatively low risk. I saw a breakdown of that play. It was an extended fast break, where Keldon had done the Shaq seal. The rest of the team had run to spaces around the arc. Keldon’s seal had created a space about 6 feet wide along the baseLine, from sideline to sideline. There was a ton of room, both depth wise, and laterally, to throw that pass in. Dylan also didn’t fall into the trap of trying to pinpoint the pass to Keldon’s spot. Doing that increases the likelihood of it being picked off. He led Keldon to the baseline. In NFL announcer parlance, he threw it where only his guy could catch it. Once Keldon hauled it in, it was over. No like sized player is stopping that move to the rim, and shot off the glass.

Where's that GIF of Vince McMahon falling out of his chair?? :st-lol:

Oh, do you have the video of the breakdown by chance? I immediately thought "wow I'd love to see that play again" when it happened, but didn't make a note of the game time when it happened

It honestly looked almost like an accidental pass at first, but after the catch it became obvious just how much space there was; a testament to Harper's passing abilities... Yeah, catching at that distance from the rim it's game over, Keldon was either scoring or getting fouled during a shot attempt. A really heads-up play from the true "PG of the future" for the Spurs!

I did look for it, but didn’t find it just now. If I do, I’ll post it.

Hope someone translates this
Interviewer: "Manu, we have little time but wanted to ask: You're working with the franchise, contributing to the Spurs' present. Which player from this brilliant current roster—who started strong—do you identify with most when watching them train and play?"

Manu: "It's such a nice time for the Spurs. So much talent and good kids, good people. I love Castle—everything: his body language, aggressiveness, plays. He always competes with the same face but is tenacious, aggressive, gets to the rim, unselfish. You can't help but fall in love; he's captivating like no one else. And Dylan Harper is extraordinary too."

Interviewer: "We think he's the most like you."

Manu: "It's a great moment. Yes, he has some similarities, but I think he'll be 5-10x better—don't sell yourself short. He has resources I never had. Maybe I had other things, but he gets to the rim easily, handles both hands, controls his body well, finishes great. And he's only 19—crazy.Great time to be a Spurs fan."

Interviewer: "Love you, man."

I’d go

Kon
Flagg

Harper
VJ
Queen
Coward
Fears

Harper has been more productive per minute than the other 4 guys below him and he’s doing it on a team with the equal 3rd best record in the league. Winning should count for something.

Great list, and I agree with it. IMO, Flagg, Kon and Harper are the guys that will have the chance at rookie of the year. Flagg and Kon are the frontrunner, but if the Spurs finish the season strong with a top record and Dylan keeps playing better and better, he can get himself in that conversation by the end of the regular season IMO.

The rookie-sophmore game this upcoming All-Star weekend might be must see, with Harper and CB, and the rest of this rookie class. Hey, maybe Castle plays a doubleheader.
