Player The restricted-age video store section of Dylan Harper

Teams are gonna definitely start sitting back to protect against the drive against him. Just needs to keep shooting with confidence tbh.

I want to see some Fox/Harper/Castle/Vassell/Wemby minutes and see what it looks like.

I also want some Fox/Harper/Champ/Dev/Wemby minutes

I also want Fox/Luke/Wemby + two of Harper/Castle/Vassell depending on who’s hot/cold that game.

Damn it feels good to have options
i want some 7 man lineups so we can have Fox-Harper-Castle-Vassell-Champagnie-Kornet-Wemby

He was an assistant. There are no official or unofficial designations.

Spurs don’t usually announce reasons for stuff like that, but my working theory is that he had no taste for a rebuild. He left in the summer of 22, right before the final tear down for the ‘Wemby season’.
Ahh gotcha, i'm assuming he was a 2nd row assistant then? Is he 2nd row for OKC as well? Worked out well for him, giving him a team full of big time shooters almost isn't fair.

Can't believe we're about to have the best backup PG in the league for the next 5 years tbh.

Will perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidacy and 32 minutes a night keep him satisfied in a role as a backup? That's still a tough ask for a young guy who may be dreaming of a starting job and the contract to go with it

Why are people assuming Harper has to come off the bench for the rest of this season, much less the next several seasons? What am I missing?

I view Harper's situation similar to Kobe Bryant's situation when he first entered the league. The Lakers prior to getting Kobe already had all-star caliber guards in Nick VanExel and Eddie Jones. Kobe came off the bench during his first two years and by year 3 it was clear he was better than both so the Lakers ended up eventually trading both VanExel and Jones. Kobe then became a starter.

A similar situation could happen in a few years where the Spurs trade Fox or somebody else to make room for Harper being a starter. Right now Harper's role of being sixth man is suited for him and beneficial for the team. I don't expect him to be a sixth man for the rest of his career. I view him more like Kobe or Harden in the sense that both of those guys started off as sixth men but ended up being a starter in year 3 or 4 of their careers.

Has anyone ever won 6th man and rookie of the year?

Who won rookie of the year the year Ben Gordon's year?

Well, he's not starting ahead of Castle right now, who is also playing great. And longer term, I assume D'Aaron Fox and his $50M contract will be in the way (and justifiably so, hopefully).

We’re 4 games into the season. Him not starting over Castle does not mean that he’ll never be able to overtake that role.

It’s also entirely possible that all 3 of them end up starting in the not-so-distant future. Harper/Castle have the size to play the 2/3, especially with Wemby holding down the interior.

Just seems like we’re wildly jumping the gun to already be worrying about Harper being unhappy coming off the bench for years to come :st-lol: There are plenty of ways things can play out differently.

Exactly. From every interview he’s had, the kid is happy to be here. It will take years for him to turn unhappy. It actually benefits the team more when he comes off the bench. A “starter” is just a title. Harper wrecking havoc on 2nd units is an insane luxury to have.

Caught the mavs game last night and barely noticed Flagg out on the floor. Looked very mediocre. Now thinking Harper might actually become the better nba player. He’s not popping as much as I thought he would out there. He’s too small to do anything with guys like Holmgren and guys like Shai dance around him like he’s standing still. He looks like a good #2 actually but I’m not sure he’ll ever be an all nba level player. We caught a break drafting the natural star who already looks like a young harden at this point.

I don’t think Flagg is getting a fair shake with that line up. He, Davis, Kyrie and two shooters would be better. But despite beefing up Davis refuses to play C so that’s a limitation.

he might be the next Rodrigue Beaubois
Wow. Pretty cool season if he did. Sounds like he was a pretty solid player before all his injuries.
Emeka Okafor was like, the definition of solid. always a good not great player, never an all-star, but always a reliable starting center. double double with 2-3 blocks was just a day in the office. but not much more than that. never much of a passer or solo scorer.

Best 2-man lineup in the league so far. They’ve been on the court for a whopping 56 minutes so far so obviously a small sample size but still pretty cool. Need more Harper/Wemby 2 man action.
thats about half his minutes that have been wemby. considering Harper isnt starting, you wouldnt expect him to play any more with wemby. and with Fox coming back soon, you expect that will be even less time available for other PGs with Wemby

where things can get very interesting is if Harper starts winning SG minutes over Castle
