Player The "It's My Time" Busted Clocktower of Devin Vassell

his release still looks bizarre. he kind of holds the ball out to the side, and his shooting wrist seems like it flicks almost horizontally. but man, whatever works, Dev

his decision making has gotten a lot better. and I’m really enjoying his defensive intensity as of late

He's not getting enough credit for what he did when Wemby and Fox sat late in the 4th last night (we'll save the discussion of why Mitch decided to sit them at such a critical moment some other time). Absolutely nails.

Big Game Dev.

Lowe has always been higher on Devin than general consensus (including me) tbh.

This is the perfect role for Devin tbh. He's got a real chance to be the guard/wing version of Aaron Gordon for the Spurs in that he just really elevates and connects the starting lineup.

The improvement in his decision-making and his consistency is absolutely off the charts. He also plays defense all the time, whether shots falling or not, which makes him incredibly valuable. No question about his value during this run. Super happy to see him find his place after having to suffer through the lows.

Vassell was billed as a 3/D guy when he was drafted. then 2-3 years in the midrange stuff really came into its own, but the defense started to sag.

now he's back to being a committed defender (not an elite defender but a good one), has the 3-ball going, and is wisely using the midrange stuff as a counter to closeouts instead of making that his primary mode of offense

His release is actually why he can hit such difficult shots. It's an insanely high release with the power generation being completely leg based. Almost impossible to block

Is Vassell's kind of strange off center release the reason for his 3PT% to be so different on the left and right sides?

No not necessarily. A lot of guys just shoot better (sometimes much better) from one of the corners over the other tbh. I always shot better from the left corner (or right corner if you're on the court) like Devin does. It has to do with body/elbow alignment. For me, as a right-handed shooter, lining my shooting arm up with the side of the backboard made it easier to shoot the corner 3. When you shoot from the opposite side, you don't have that luxury as the side of the backboard is on your left obv. That's why right-handed shooters often shoot better from the opposite side of the court (not always, but more often imo). Wemby shoots it considerably better from that corner as well. Then there's guys like Mikal Bridges who's right-handed but shoots it much better from the right corner. So it just depends the player tbh.

Bruce Bowen was one of the rare guys who shot it equally well on both sides. Over 41% from each corner I believe.

Since he came back from injury, the Spurs are the best team in the league. He didn't have to shoulder the load, he just had to manage his responsibilities in a smart way, and he has done that. It's hard to call him the team MVP, but he is definitely the unsung hero this season.

I am very pleasantly surprised that we finally get to see the best version of KJ and Vassell this year. Prior to season, as every "experts" predicted, I thought we would be just competing in the play-in (7 to 10 seed). But the unexpected growth of KJ and Vassell, and also Castle etc is really surprising. Even Wemby said in the pre-season interview that the team's goal is 6th seed.

It is real that the players are saying everyone know their roles and love to see each other succeed.

This vibes is on par with the 2014 beautiful basketball team. (that 2014 was also kinda special with all the international players. Italy (Belli), France (TP and Boris and Nando De Colo), Argentina (Manu), Brazil (Tiago), Australia (Patty)

Anyone got a clip of that missed Alley Oop for the tie at Denver?
W-T-F

Aside from that, very unimpressed with the Denver game. Gets lost on D on a regular basis. Horrible help defender.
Does a lot of standing around on O.

yup...but whole team was off it seems other then wemby.

Felt like everybody played really good up until the very end where they started getting tight and then nobody could hit anything no matter how wide open they were left. Did HB get any run there at the end? I ended up having to turn it off.
