I keep thinking about the Boston game and why Brown got so heated for what should've been a technical foul and something he should've moved on from afterwards. I think him pressing the issue and doubling back at the ref was a calculated veteran move to get him ejected. We know he's been complaining for months about getting no calls his way but I think this did two things for him and Boston that Vic can learn from going into his first playoffs.
Brown knows there's a good chance they could face the Spurs in the Finals. Both teams are good enough to make it. That being said, I think this outburst gives them the upper hand for calls with the refs. I think he went this hard so that the refs will give him "superstar" treatment if they meet in the Finals. It also allowed the Spurs to not get a good grasp on how to defend them with Tatum back, who should be at full stride, if they make it deep into the playoffs. This game didn't give us a good feel on how to defend them both, along with Pritchard, by him getting tossed.
I say Vic can learn from this because far too many times he doesn't press the issue with the refs about getting fouled. He literally got slapped in the face on that drive and just got up and walked away with a slightly bloody nose. He should've been yelling at the refs about that no call so that he can start getting respect for those fouls. I know Pop told him not to complain and Vic is big on "ethical" basketball but all of the greats put pressure on the refs to make a call. He doesn't have to do it to the degree of crying on every play like Luka but when he got hit in the face, he should've yelled at the refs to call a foul to the point where he received a tech. He can't continue to just get up and run back to the other end like these fouls don't affect him. Especially once we get into the playoffs.
