Player The blessed howl's moving Castle of Stephon Javonte

Interesting, you could be onto something here. Steph is definitely not someone that shies away from big games and moments, so maybe he is pushing too hard and needs to step back a bit, play a bit more cerebral like prime CP3. Hopefully CP3 has given him a call and talked him through it a bit.
He is very competitive so he's trying too hard sometimes, we know he can distribute the ball better, but this last game he was forcing things, driving relentless without looking to pass, etc. But pretty sure he's gonna have better game this friday.

As for his defence dutties , Advija looks like he was playing hurt so he has a bad game overall, and Scoot was just on fire, nothing to fault Castle tbh

His defense hasn't been that good this series outside of his rebounding. He deserves some blame for Scoot being "on fire" tbh.

maybe some , but Scoot is playing with confidence, like he's trying to make a point to all his doubters, we know he has the talent, but you can see in his face that hes playing different way more focused

Sure but that doesn't absolve the other team from playing bad defense on him. Scoot isn't Jordan where he can just impose his will on us just because he feels like it :st-lol:

We probably have to close out harder on him and force him into Kornet but our defense has been objectively bad on him for 2 games now.

I know what you mean, but he doesn't need to be Jordan to have good games and score some points, last game he was making some crazy shoots, one after another, i know we can play better defence on him, but if he's shooting the ball like that, he will score regardless

alright....

spoiler alert: there is a lot of castle showing up

I think Sweeney had sleepless nights thinking how to slowdown this kid. More CB minutes on Deni so Castle can focus on Scoot imo, throw in Harper too, and Champ be playing better defense

plus two coming from transition offence where castle goes on an ill advised penetration.. that's half of it
5/11 isn’t really half but saying fast breaks resulting from castle drives when it was his teammates responsibility to cover for fast breaks is disingenuous.

Also, at least 2 of the 3 shots I mentioned earlier were closely contested.

Finally, none of the 5 shots was castle helping away from scoot like you contended earlier.

I actually didn’t LOVE his performance (at least, I don’t think he was as good as the box score would indicate), but I have to remind myself this is still a 21 year-old sophomore who was never really projected to be some offensive engine. It was an impressive showing all things considered, just think he was a little ball-dominant at times and caused the offense to stagnate.

I’m probably just being nitpicky - not trying to act like he was garbage.

Solid offensive display, excellent at foul merchanting, but absolutely dreadful defensively in the first half (first 15 points from portland were all on him). Settled in in a more focused assignment in the second half and i thought the team defended a lot better as a result of it. The -9 vs +25 or something from dylan told the entire story of the game. I still believe he can be great defensively but mitch needs to stop putting him on wings, it was absolutely blatant today. Offensively, as he is he's already pretty great, even if it is not the most pleasant basketball to watch.

Harper was the key to winning the game, but Steph tried his hardest to keep us in it in the first half. He definitely didn't play as great a game as the box score shows, but he was still darn good overall.

I think also, someone in the game thread said it, but it might be best not to have him on the other team's top wing the whole game. Put him on a key points as I think it wears him down too much trying to guard these guys the whole game, and it can also sometimes get him in foul trouble. I still think he's a very good/great defender, but I don't think he should take the primary assignments all game.
