Misc The abandoned East European server room of LJ and Kori Ellis

I wonder if it's "bums" in the URL that does it
Maybe it's using the forum-specific xenforo hosting, rather than a more generic hosting service which couldn't be so easily pinned down as non work related?

Does this website have all the SEO setup?
No. If you know how to do that or if you know someone who does message the admin. I would like to help set this up so that we have an optimized landing page or proper description for search engine results.

I do think it’s important.

I’m kind shocked that the baseline bums url wasn’t already taken. Good get.

Also, did anyone hear the Bums even mentioned during the Ultras tryouts?

We can just make our own timvp grades. Just say Fox "authored" some crisp passes and "dished out" some assists. Just say "the good guys" led/trailed at the half. Although he struggled with x, he did a great job with y. With player a out, player b stepped up/disappointed in their absence.

Jordan McLaughlin didn't stand out in the box score, but made some heady passes, and was a steadying hand for a second unit desperately needing it.

Don't forget: "the good: Collins authored some nice passes and made some heady plays. The bad: his defense left a lot to be desired and he was consistently outmatched on the glass. B-"

Or we can create player rating topics after every game with polls so everyone gives their own rating.
Would be interesting to see the averages at the end of the season.
great idea. game grades by committee. maybe standardize a template to use and see how each BBum member varies

I honestly thought towards the end there that his game grades opening paragraph was an automated type up from a script that scans the box score and is coded to interpret basketball analysis. Like the bot sees 4 steals for x player in the box score and the code writes "x player was tenacious on the defensive end, tallying 4 steals"

This is actually a great content idea if someone takes the responsibility for loading the final results into a database, then we can run queries against it for certain periods, home/away splits, division splits, etc.

I also don't want to be the one who manages the database. Maybe we make it a Google Sheet with a few trusted people with edit access so that we can manage/maintain by committee.

lol imagine the Dejounte database receipts if you had a season long line graph of player grade plot points for each username. "oh you think Keldone is doing well now but I see you awarded him D/D- average in Nov and Dec grade polls"

Hilarious... but also I think this would be great.

I'm willing to take the lead on setting this up if I can get some help from @Ariel and @ambchang (and anyone else who wants, tbh, I just know these two are statistically minded like I am) on upkeep of said database.

What I envision:

  • A Google Sheet where data is stored with raw data tables and individual player pages tracking their season long grade performance. I will build this out. I'm more of an Excel guy, but Google Sheets seems to be the preferred tool for community spreadsheets.
  • A thread at the end of every game where the community votes on grades (scale TBD)
  • Shared responsibility between myself and whoever is willing to help for updating the database at the end of the grading period (let's say 24 hours after each game ends)
This is the kind of content, IMO, that will drive traffic to this site and make us the pre-eminent Spurs forum.

if y'all need help migrating data please reach out. it sounds like a cool project

I’m starting to think that Dejounte was someone’s alt…

Kelly Olynyk hit the boards with gusto, made some timely 3's and, overall, played a smart brand of basketball. The timing of his passes was exquisite. KO could've, arguably, been given more 4th quarter minutes.

His energy was palpable, and offensively, he played with a level of confidence that was contagious.
