Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

So much of this rides in how MATFO feels about the shooting upside of castle and Harper. If they felt both of them can work up to average shooters or better, then I’d say them and wemby will be clear foundational pieces for the next decade, so all trades should keep this in mind and keep assets that would allow them to have cheap high end role players (read Hugh floor rookies) to cycle through.

However, if the view is that they are who they are and they are not long term foundational pieces then the focus would be to trade one of the two and get a big piece in return that would’ve foundational, and forgoing future flexibility if need be.

I’m in the former camp and think we should be looking at the Hausers and the ellises instead of the Giannis or even the Trey Murphys.
Harpers shooting will 100% come along, Castle is different question

Solid work there, would be ecstatic if this happened.Yabu and Zion would be a semi-sensical pairing to always have major heft at the PF spot. I did see RC checking out Bassey in Austin. Waiving Dadiet and Biyombo would be a great play. I'd even throw in the much vaunted middling 2nd round pick to sweeten the deal.Who is likely to want the corpse of Kelly O and his soon to be expiring contract, besides us?

Man i know Sochan has been bad this year, but a swap for Yabu still feels like a massive let down. Is Pecome any good? Would they give us a future swap of some kind?

Dadiet is a super young athletic wing, wouldn't be a bad pick up

If a Yabu-Sochan swap could result in Spurs flipping 2 of their 3 SRPs this year into the Knicks’ first (basically the Thad Young), it make more sense to me. Toss in Pecome.

None of Yabu / Bey seem useful to me. Both are shooting poorly this year. Yabu is terrible on defense while Bey is shooting 32% from 3 and 31% last year. Bey's advanced Defensive numbers are also very poor. This is no upgrade.

Yabu has a player option for $5.8MM next season, which he'll undoubtably exercise since he's nothing more than a minimum player at this point.

Seems like it would be an unforced error to trade for him, unless we're getting some draft compensation (like upgrading some seconds into a first).

Edit: NYK's FRP is not tradeable. They have WAS top-8 protected that will inevitably turn into WAS's SRP this year and next, so it would be kind of pointless to do a SRP-for-FRP pick swap unless we're getting a future Knicks first... but I don't see why the Knicks would be interested in that.

I don’t really understand the premise that Steph just stays with a forever 10 seed until he’s too old to shoot 3’s anymore.

I mean I understand that this might be true and it’s what he wants. But it’s pitiful. He wants to be pitiful because he won titles there under a different setting? Go win a title as a secondary scorer who doesn’t get butt f’d by 18 defenders every play. Have some fun. Win games without Draymond. Do all the wonderful things.

…or hang a banner in your house that says “loyal” on it and see how much that is worth. It’s one thing where it’s a guy who changes teams because he doesn’t realize he’s washed up yet. Curry is still a lethal weapon. He’s not Hakeem or Ewing or whatever other weird old guy in the wrong jersey.
Dirk did it. Kobe. Wade kinda did after leaving for a short period. Some players just enjoy loyalty.

How about for a 2029 and 2032 unprotected swap? Gotta fill in that calendar!

I still think Klay or even a MJP trade should be in the Spurs targeted phone calls. I think Barnes, Olynyk, Sochan and a top 8 protected pick, perhaps altantas, for MJP would be ideal. For Klay it'll be Olynyk who is expiring.

Taking a flyer on Thompson would be interesting tbh. That said, it would take more than Olynyk's expiring.

I guess we gotta hope Yabu goes to NOLA cause I don't want this guy nowhere near the team. Hopefully it's a multi-team tradel

Personally I'd waive Dadiet if this came to fruition. I'd also waive Biyombo and sign Bassey, but Brian Wright has yet to call and ask for my opinion :st-lol:
I'd keep Dadiet around. He's listed as SG but 6'9'', mobile and got good shooting form. Could be another Champagnie project. Spurs can always waive Biyombo.

I just don't really want any of the Knicks garbage on the team to be honest.

Yabu is fat cone on D. I'd rather bet on Sochan figuring it out (he is still 22 only) then Yabu getting useful this or next year. Lets hope our FO will not get fleeced and they can get someone to betting on Jeremy for better return. Also I'd hate to root for NY if my boy went there but I understand that he needs a change of scenery.
Only consolation is that as a fan of Beastie Boys I would had an excuse wear that cool old school t-shirt - if I could get one. Still Spurs would be no1. 1769255537448.webp

so apparently the Knicks want Missi and Alvarado from the Pels. I know it's Joe Dumars, but I don't see how the Pelicans would trade 2 legit rotation players for 2 borderline third stringers like Yabu and Dadiet.

Pacers would also like to swap Mathurin for Missi, which is a much better offer. Celtics, Lakers, Warriors and Raptors are also in the hunt for Missi.

Also no rumors right now about what the Spurs would like to do with Olynyk's contract.

Max Christie is my big trade pickins goal.

Klay Thompson would increase this team’s bball IQ by a lot
He’s kind of a dick, though. He was injured and missed two seasons that GS had to pay him. He bitched about coming off the bench during his recovery, and then didn’t like GS’s offer, so he took LESS to leave and go to Dallas. Seems like unnecessary drama for a player who really only has one skill. His formerly stout defense is just a memory.
