Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

Ironically saw a story from a Sixer site suggesting they go after Sochan.
Jeremy Sochan is a critical part of our young core and we can't afford to lose him to a team like the Sixers. They'd really have to come strong with some future FRPs for us to even consider it......

:)

2 things. First off, Evan Sidery looks like a realtor you can trust in his photo. Second, here comes the beginning of the deck re-shuffling process that OKC is destined to repeat for years. It may eventually erode their current ethos and culture or strengthen the systems of Daigenault and co. Will be interesting to see what they do.

Wonder if the Pacers would be open to moving Obi Toppin. He's been out for the year thus far but might be a nice pickup heading into the playoffs and next season if all it takes is Olynyk and/or Sochan.

I do not hate this idea. I’d imagine that like the draft, teams have trade boards and this is undoubtedly somewhere on the Spurs list. I got early entry to a Spurs/Knicks games a few years back and Julius Randle and Obi Were the only Knicks on the court before warmups and they were working out hard. Toppin didn’t even play that game. His work ethic and jumping ability are strong.

De'Andre Hunter should be the best possible player Spurs could get with Sochan, Olynyk and second round picks. Cavs ownership is rumored be fed up to pay all that money for a mediocre team. They could look to salary dump Hunter given his so-so season.

Would be a great trade for us.

I dont see any motivation for the Pacers to trade him at all... even then only for a return that makes them competitive next season

A year ago I would have seen him as a perfect addition and I thought the Cavs got a steal. But he now plays absolutely awful and worst of all, he plays really bad on defense. He can be decent one on one, when locked in, but he is a desaster in team defense, seems he is a slow thinker. Hawks wanted him out and now Cavs want to get rid of him. I fear he was always overrated regarding his defense (the college hype) based on what be could be in theory.

Is Evan Sidery just making stuff up? Since when have the Spurs let it be known what their plans are? If true, KO and Sochan should get us something decent.

This feels intuitive to me. The Spurs are winning games (and against good teams) with their current lineup, so it'd be ideal to not lose anybody from the actual rotation. Then again, many of our non-rotation guys don't have much value beyond filler (Lindy Waters III, Bismack, McLaughlin, et al).

The main players outside the rotation with any value are Sochan and Olynyk. Either of them could be flipped purely on the fact that their deal is expiring. And Sochan, being only 22 yrs old, might still intrigue a team with his potential. I see a very real path where either or both of those players get moved before the deadline. Add in the fact that we have three 2nd rounders in the upcoming draft and we also have some ready-made sweetener to any potential move.

Despite Yabusele's struggles in a small sample size and his choosing the Knicks over the Spurs, Dadiet and him for Sochan is probably the most realistic trade.

Outside of center, the deep bench doesn't complement the rotation, which is why the games where they're shorthanded turn into adventures.

His girth and functional 3-point shot are better options than any they have and the Nuggets, Rockets and Timberwolves all feature burly front lines, which give them trouble.
I wonder why the Spurs didnt sign Yabusele outright?

any thoughts on this guys?

Yabusele and Risacher, >> can we got both of these guys??
Risacher is making 13.8M next season and 17.4M the year after. That's a lot of cheddar for a guy who isn't really producing great results. He's an average 3pt shooter, bad rebounder and average defender (at best) at this point. You're betting on his development while his current team (who has much more information about him) is making the opposite bet. I don't doubt that he would improve with a better system, more capable players around him and more predictable rotation and minutes. But unless you truly get him for a song I'm not sure I'd take that gamble.

Yabusele is a different matter. He's only making 5.7M next year and then he drops off the books. He's never been a major piece for New York and seems to have fallen out of favor lately. He could probably be had for relatively little and represents a modest risk at worst. Plus we seriously need more bodies that can play at the PF. Definitely worth kicking the tires on.

Avdija will be my fire all my bullets at, but he is unavailable. At a lesser extent Keegan Murray. Then Trey Murphy. They are only the difference makers that I think can be obtained with a big offer draft captital package.

Just other names to consider.

Power Forwards
Grant Williams (eh but would contribute more than Socahn for this season only)
Bobby Portis

3&D
Naji Marshall
Max Christie
Saddiq Bey
Herb Jones

Specialist
Kevon Looney
Klay Thompson

Personally Klay for Olynyk and Waters is the most cleanest deal but the mavs have so many PFs, making a deal for Naji, Max, or Klay unlikely.

I still think Timelord would be a worthwhile acquisition. Keep in mind, I'm not looking for him to play every game. Think of him in a similar role to KO. He's a 96th percentile in OREB% this season, 97th in DREB%, and 98th in BLK%. Generally speaking he gets viewed as a guy who can only play in every other game (and to that point, he's played in 22 of 34 this year).

Sochan and seconds, this is the move I'd want to make.

I don't think we'd pursue Drummond (who I've always liked) but he's a similar profile to what I'm trying to solve for here. 97th percentile OREB%, 99th in DREB%, 86th percentile BLK%.

@LeBowen has previously brought up Day'Ron Sharpe. 95th percentile OREB%, 98th DREB%, 77th BLK% and also 92nd STL%.

I'll also be remiss if I didn't point out there is a certain Spurs who currently plays for the Santa Cruz Warriors who rates high in REB and BLK metrics...

I just want someone who can come in, grab some boards and protect the rim when Wemby is out, Luke needs a breather, or one of them gets some foul trouble. Kind of our modern day Kevin Willis.

If it is just about a 3rd string center, why not look at Nick Richards. He fell out of the Sun's rotation, I understand they prefer Oso as the back up.
Suns only have the Nuggets 2nd rounder for 2026, so a better pick, like Jazz 2nd rounder, should be intriguing for them.

Very inconsistent player who always seems to underwhelm relative to expectations.

Sochan for Asa Newell

There was concern about his 3 pt shooting during the draft but he's shooting well in 11 minutes/game
FG 57%
3 pt 49%
FT 55% (needs to be better)

I don't expect his 3 pt shooting to stay that high with more playing time but he has bettter shooting form than Sochan and a higher potential
He's a better fit with the quicker running guards on the Spurs as he's athletic enough to run with the guards and a good finisher around the basket.

Sign me up, but this is Atlanta and not Nico or Dumars the Spurs would be trying to fleece.
