On the topic of trying to pry Risacher out of a Dallas deal, I'm not inclined to give up the 26 swap. I'd rather give up the unprotected 27 pick.

I look at it this way.
We're not likely to be picking in top10 barring some more bs luck.

Risacher is a low ceiling, but high floor prospect. He's definitely going to be a solid 3-D wing for many years. Already a positive defender with great size and can shoot the ball.
That's with all the expecations and the burden of being the #1 pick at a dysfunctional organization.

I don't think our odds of getting a better player with either of those picks are that high. Obviously we've had a ton of lottery luck, but I wouldn't rely on it to happen again.

IDK... Hawks are on a 7 game losing streak and I would not be shocked to seem them lose 20 of the next 25. I'm actually feeling as optimistic as ever about this year's swap.

I’d rather go after Derrick Jones Jr. Sweeney knows him and he hit big shots in that Mavs playoff run. Expiring contract next year. He’d give good depth for us.

Yep... this pick has a real chance to be top 4, but at worst we're looking at later lottery where a few good PF prospects are available. I'm keeping the pick..

I would not attach a top 12 pick for Risacher. I’d rather roll the dice on the pick. CB is already a more interesting player.

I don't see what people see in CB. His defense is good but his shooting and handles are pretty bad, he is essentially a non factor offensively.

That's my issue with Risacher too.

While I like him and I think he's worth a mid first round pick, Spurs need a PF (Vassell and Castle will eat most of the minutes at SF) and Risacher just isn't that.

right now they are two losses away from #5 with a tough schedule coming up.

I go back and forth on Risacher. If he was a PF he would be a fantastic addition but he's a wing as of now. Still though he's only 20 so he could grow into a PF in future years. Even then his listed weight is only 200 pounds. Barnes and Dean Wade are both listed at 225-230 so Risacher moving to PF would be 2-3 years away at the soonest. Minutes would be very tough to come by and would discombobulate the rotation a lot. Just not sure he's a good fit. If only he was a PF.

If Risacher could be gotten at pennies on the dollar, that's a no-brainer, I think. He's no PF, nor, the answer to our problems with burly frontlines.
My question would be: Is he better than Champagnie? That's who he'd replace. Also, having a 6'9" wing would help some matchups. Our D would improve immediately with him. We still need a real PF type to ascend another level higher. If Risacher costs too much, then, no worries. Just pass. 20 year-old 6'9" wings that can shoot, play good D and don't need the ball are nice to have. He could grow with our group and if that doesn't work, ship him out before his contract is up.

MPJ seems to be on the trading block again. Will be interesting to see what happens there. There could be a bunch of activity at the deadline this year.

I think BW will make the right call again this year. There might even be another great player who wants to come here. I also believe that the coaching staff will have the right requests for player profiles they want to add.

Risacher bumps Champ out of the rotation helping the defense while hurt rebounding as Champ is a fantastic wing rebounder while Risacher sucks at it despite his size. Not sure if the juice is really with the squeeze. Plus Risacher is shooting 67% for the foul line this season which is a horrible shot indicator so you have to wonder if his three ball will hold up long term.

And lots of teams below are playing better, just better teams unless super unlucky. Dal, Mil, Lac should finish higher. Nets are playing great D and full of improving guys. I'd take POR, MEM, and CHI over them. ATL should be battling CHA and UTA for that 5th slot, and like Scott pointed out, that upcoming schedule is brutal, and if the Pacers get McConnell and Shepard back suddenly their easiest SOS games look like ATL may be the underdog going in.

Just about how many pennies I think. To me his biggest problem is #1 money, he's not exactly cheap contract wise if he's not playing like a top3 pick, and he's not. It's also hard to resign him to a small contract unless he goes Wiseman.

He basically makes MLE money. I think the question is, can the Spurs with Vic/Fox/Castle/Harper and a clear clear need at F attract a FA for similar money who's better today without giving up anything at all.
Spurs should be a top 2-4 MLE destination given the roster and need. OKC won't have the $ nor role, ditto NYK, Hou won't have the role, its basically us and LAL (if not 2nd apron'd) and maybe Ind and Det but those teams don't have a F problem when healthy so smaller role.
If we get him for way less than he should go for, great. Otherwise, I'm waiting on FAs who want to play 20-30mpg next to Vic and 3 willing slasher/passers.
If he was making CB $ I'd be super willing to buy-low, but he's making nearly 3x that, real risk if your giving up anything of value and I still think ATLs picks could be super valuable, I'd rather gamble on those than Zacc today.

Potential. He turned 20 one month ago and was a role player in college (low usage, but did his job well), now playing <8mpg mostly in garbage time over 24 games. It's very hard to find a rhythm offensively like that. I don't think his handles were ever supposed to be developed and we could easily have a very simple/easy to excel role for him...stand in the corner on O, cut and board next to multiple AS level players.
Definitely a project, but I haven't been disappointed by what I've seen because he's very young and has the tools and his D is enough to get him minutes.

He shot under 36% last yr, under 35% this yr, 35% in 32 games the yr before in LNB Elite from a closer line. His (maybe hypotethical) 3pt shooting prowess comes down to a 17-game Eurocup sample size where he shot 57%. He doesn't have a crazy track record, he's not Kon or Reed. He got hot at the right time in weak draft. His career FT% is less than 71% across 3 seasons in Europe and 2 in the NBA. That does not sound like a great shooter, but he may have all the tools to become one.

It’d be FO malpractice not to try. Or at least to not roll it over by acquiring a contract that expires next year. Seems important if the team is gonna function as an over the cap team for the foreseeable future.

It really boils down to where the spurs think the Atlanta pick will land. They are on a 7 game losing streak with a tough schedule coming up, so that's only good for us. It seems they have dug themselves a big hole already. So if we wait about another two weeks or so, the pick could turn really valuable if we decide to keep it, or use in a trade situation at the dead line or after the season ends. Either way , the spurs are in the drivers seat for now with that pick and with the pelicans doing better and the hawks doing worse, it may suck to be Atlanta.
