So what seems like an obvious move is to trade Sochan and McLaughlin/Waters for some forward making $13.7 Million or less, then signing DJG to a multi-year contract and adding a center prospect for the final two-way slot.
Veteran forwards making between $10 Million and $13.7 Million this season:
Grant Williams
Bobby Portis
Dorian Finney-Smith
Brandon Clarke
Jarred Vanderbilt
Maxi Kleber
Royce O'Neale
Sam Hauser
Derrick Jones
It's not a tremendous list. But at the same time, it seems pretty clear that any of these players should be attainable without having to offer a first with the exception of O'Neale, who's having a great year. CHA, MKE, MEM and LAC are all in a position where they might be willing to let their role-player go for a second or even just Sochan and ballast. I'm just not sure how many of those guys are even solid rotation players on the Spurs, let alone potential starters.
