Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

Sorry I meant in the context of signing him to a new deal this summer. Not interested in paying $10 to $15 million a season for a third string center.
I envision this only as a rental, and then the Spurs can deal with long-term third string C in the offseason.

Also, who knows what RWIII will cost in new deal... dude can't stay healthy I can't imagine he gets $10-15MM again.

Love dealing with the Kings, Precious Achiuwa is a solid rebounder and easily having his most efficient season. Problems are he can't be traded until the deadline and he's a $2M expiring so is prolly better used as an add-on if they want to try to trade off their collection of bad contracts which is damn near everyone that gets minutes for them. But maybe good Sochan flyer? Precious + Saric for Sochan works, saves them a little money, offers them some upside to for two expirings.

Yabusele has been pretty brutal for NYK, maybe they'd take a flyer on him for Sochan but that salary match is really difficult. I really wanted Yabusele and maybe a change of scenario and playing with Vic could turn his season around.

For C, I feel fine riding with KO and waiting on the buy-out market. Never know who will show up, but I'd be fine taking a flyer on Lopez and DeAndre Jordan for free. They might both be washed, but I'd rather have either as the 15th man than BB.
Precious was sitting as a FA doing nothing well into the season... if the Kangz somehow turned his signing into ANYTHING, it would be the smartest thing the Kings have ever done. Therefor, no way it happens :st-lol:

I think a "3rd string" center is the wrong way to look at it. Should look at it more like Kornet is backup A and another center is backup B. Kornet plays a bruising style of basketball so he is going to get banged up some as well so we really need another center we can play just to maybe keep his minutes down. Like if we had a 2b center right now I wouldn't even want Kornet playing tonight no need in beating his body up against the wizards where we have 2 games against okc coming up next week.

I do think the staff got surprised by how bad Biyombo is and how much Jeremy regressed. Biyombo was passible last season but physically has fallen off a cliff and is unplayable. Jeremy just has not improved and he is also mostly unplayable in the offense we run. I do not think the coaching staff and thus the front office anticipated this happening. Or that the team would be this good this fast and instead of you just waiting around to see what you have you might need to make moves now for what you know you don't have and need, another not terrible center.
I agree with what you said 100%, but other people don't seem to. Maybe they thought Biyombo would be better and didn't expect him to have such a steep decline, and you also have a good point about Sochan as they probably thought they could get away with playing him at center a little bit during some games. Also, maybe what you said about the team being this good this quick caught them off guard. Maybe the FO thought they had more time to get a better player for that spot.

The young guys are ready now. When Udonis Haslem was interviewing Steph after the NBA Cup semi-final, he said he asked Kelly Olynyk how he likes it in San Antonio and he said something like (I'm paraphrasing) "These young guys can do everything UD, these young guys can do everything." UD said he never even answered the question about how he likes it in SA. lol. After hearing that, I kind of feel bad about looking to trade KO as he seems to really like being on the team.

I was also going to ask, is Yabusele on the outs with NY? He didn't play against the Spurs from what I remember. Is he injured, or just not in the rotation? If he's not in the rotation, how bad has he been? Has it been his defense keeping him off the court?

Very true about RWIII's contract situation. Just because he's making over $10M this season, doesn't mean anyone will play him close to that as a free agent.

It seems that Pacers ownership is cheap.
Apparently Mathurin is available because they don't want to offer him a nine figure deal, which would be something like 100/4 or so.
Not a target for us, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Would you pay him 25m per in this new cap environment? Seems exactly the type of player/contract you don’t want to get wrong these days.

The knock on him is he pretty bball low-IQ right? I'm just trying to find something to do with Sochan. I still think he's got a real shot at an NBA career, but I just can't see that happening in SA now and I'm out on giving him the QO. Michael C Wright mentioned on a podcast today talking to Sochan after the Cup Finals, and Wright made it said like he's expecting to be traded. Something like he's giving a vibe he's not expecting to be here much longer, but sounded like trade instead of off-season to me.

Looking at our 2nd rd-ers this yr, looks like we got a swap with MIA, PORs 2nd, and UTAs 2nd. Need those last two to start picking up some Ls and those could be nice 2nds.

Isn't there a ton of capspace on the market this summer? Guess you don't really ever sign someone longterm to be a third string center though.

Yeah I think Yabusele is out of the rotation for the Knicks. There is a quote from him complaining about not playing as much as he thought he would.

no thanks on Yabu. he was empty stats on a bad philly team last year. he didnt end up having much of a FA market. signed for 2/11. he's just a worse version of what KJ has been giving us this year

Yabu is terrible. I’m. It even sure why anyone would want him. I won’t even trade sochan for him.

Zero need for Mathurin imo he’s a 2 guard who’s too small to play 3. We are set at guard with Fox-Castle-Harper. Then there’s Vassell too.

I'm just glad Spurs are not taking the "bring on any random, fringe french player who is buddy to with Wemby" path (Yabu, Raynaud etc). Victor isn't pulling that Giannis Bros crap

Waiting for the inevitable TJ Sualon signing in 2 years.

Yabu played a full season of good basketball last year. 20 games of not performing on one of the weirdest teams in the league means he’s terrible?

He can shoot and is a big body you could throw out there as 3C or depth at 4 and do pretty well. I’m not sure why folks would be eager to shit on the guy. He would be a good depth piece for a team that just needs a warm bodied big.

Im sure it's been mentioned already but Sochan/Olynyk/Hawks '27 works for Myles Turner tbh.

Bucks are heading towards a blow up and get to move off of Turner's money while getting a reclamation project in Jeremy plus another first that might have some added value in a Giannis/Hawks swap.

Wemby/Turner/Luke is a great big rotation tbh.

I suggested Turner a few weeks ago. Consensus was he would want too many shots and touches to be a third or fourth option plus his defense might not stick at a full time PF.

Turner is such a frustrating player. He LOOKS like exactly what we’d want, but leaves a lot to be desired on paper.

Lowe through out Kispet as an option. Thoughts?

But made the broader point that the Spurs need to use that KO contract to improve on the edges.

From what I've read, Bucks fans expected more of him.
That was before Giannis went down.
