Yes. I am just pissed with ideas about trading Castle. That doesn't mean that we should all be on board with how he is being used by MATFO. Perhaps there is a method to the madness.I'm sure there are people who might actually hate Castle... but I think there is a strong contingent of us who just want to see him deployed correctly because we view it as the way to win more games, and maybe we're more optimistic about this team's chances than the team seems to be.
I just hate giving up on success and calling it a "development year" because "Wemby isn't ready". We have the third best record in the league, despite some curious decisions that perhaps have cost us some games, and we've beaten the best team 3 times with a chance for a 4th. Are we a long shot to make a deep run? Sure. But is it impossible? Only if we disqualify ourselves before even giving it a shot.
I do admit that perhaps I'm being shortsighted and the team's decision to force the offense to run through Castle will eventually pay off... but it just seems like there is a more obvious solution, which is to play the PG you acquired and maxed at PG... to play your leader perimeter defender in a way that better suits him on offense... to play your promising young PG more than 20 minutes/game.
If we see some moves towards that after the ASB, I'll be happy.
Mitch might be wanting to answer this question. How to utilise a wing (yes. I still do believe that Castle is a wing) with some playmaking chops and the ability to get to the line and the strength to finish inside ..but who seriously lacks an outside shot ..involved.
But that cannot be a static method if opposite teams have figured out how to defend against this. It makes much more sense to make Fox and Harper run the offense in batches and Castle to do so on a pinch and to utilize the latter's strength to set screens or misdirections to allow Wemby to get closer to the basket.
But yes. Till Castle develops at least a respectable jump shot there will be days when he might frustrate on offense. Yet his other wordly defensive abilities make him a vital member of the championship core.
One of the key reasons why the Spurs are in 3rd place this season has been the defensive and passing leaps made by Castle.
