Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

We should be able to make some decent moves around the margins (3rd C, backup PF, bench shooter, etc) using SRPs if the past is any indication... and I think the value of SRPs has only INCREASED over time with the new CBA and NIL rules... let's see if the Spurs can take advantage of this warchest of SRPs we've amassed. So far we've only used them to sell for cash, the least satisfying trade imaginable for us fans.
Hope to get a firsthand look at PJ Hall on Saturday. Could fill need at PF/C, and he's demonstrated 3 point shot capability on low volume. He looks like Keldon Johnson in a 6'8" frame, but with much better hair.

I am fine with in season trades but they need to make sense not big splashy and giving up tons of assets type but sorry if we can get a player like Aldama on reasonable deal one that want kill the team long term and fills a need (cough cough a power froward) fine but 3 picks for tmiii heck no way to much
So the "3 pick thing" is interesting because...what else are we going to do with those picks? We were supposed to use them to get a second star to go with Wemby, instead we got Fox for all of basically one 1st round pick AND we own a future first round pick swap with the team that Fox played for. We were supposed to use them to maybe move up in a draft to get a player we really wanted, instead we got Castle with our own pick and Harper with our own pick so we never had to consolidate them for a higher future pick in a future draft. Now the spurs are an actual good team and you don't make a good team better by adding the youngest most inexperienced players you possibly can to it, so I would say either the days of us trying to get a top pick to add to this team are over or this is the last year we should put any time and effort into that. So now we are left wth...what exactly are we doing with that Sac, hawks, mavs, and celtics picks? It makes no sense to just hang on to them and hope they end up being top 5 pick down the line cause a top 5 pick is not immediately helping a perennial playoff team, which I think the spurs are going to be going forward. So while those 3 picks for Murphy might be an "overpay" in reality if we could get him for 3 we should probably do it because we don't have much else to do with those picks other than to use them to get players that fit our team, and I don't know if you can find a player who fits better than Murphy does. If we did trade for him at the deadline I think we walk into next season a legit championship level team cause he solves our biggest weakness for the foreseeable future.

Patrick Williams for Sochan, Barnes expiring, and tons of second round picks. Get ready to try and justify it :st-lol:

Portis would be great. @Exstatic will tell us he'll never be a Spur because he punched a teammate once. He might be right.
When Josh Kiddey got traded to the Bulls there were several reporters who said they were surprised cause they had heard Kiddey to SA was a done deal but apparently the Bulls swooped in at the 11th hour offering Caruso and not wanting a 1st round pick back, which is what the Spurs would have been getting to take Kiddey. Anything is possible.

It Portis into coffee?

I will say, last I saw a week or two ago, BP was shooting 47% from three point range. The guy's been killing it from the corners. Not sure what Sean would call him? I wonder if Sean had anything to do with Harrison's percentage plummeting with him being called Mr. 100% all the time. Hopefully that wasn't in his head shooting shots during this slump.

Ole Crazy Eyes has been my top target for a couple of years. The guy who he punched isn't even in the league anymore in part because of character issues. I'd much rather have a guy on my team punch a jerk teammates than a guy who tries to injure opponents.

Portis for Sochan and McLaughlin. Then sign DJG to a multi-year deal. Finish it up by signing a center to the final two-way spot.

C'mon Brian, do it for Chinook!

Would love this... but if we do it... can I get your support in a cut-Bismack-sign-Bassey campaign?

People are over-fixated on defense. The Spurs have the best DRTG in the NBA when Wemby is on the floor. Better than the next best team (OKC) by three points. Wemby is playing 36MPG in the playoffs (if healthy God willing) so defense wont do this team in come playoff time but outside shooting absolutely could.

This is why someone like Bobby Portis would be a good target. He's a bigger, better rebounding Barnes and would push HB to the bench. Plus he shouldn't cost much, has tons of playoff experience with 1.5 years of control.

TM3 for Vassell, 2026FRP, 2026 Utah SRP, one future FRP.........Do they take it?
They desperately want 2026 picks, so they will value those higher. DV has to be the odd man out anyhow, because of his contract, TM more or less takes his spot in the long term cap management plans.

hmmmmm

are we really involved in trade talks?

hope we can add an infusion of critical personnel

I would not do this. He’s not going to get the usage to outperform Vassells numbers to the tune of two 1sts.

This is not a good trade despite TM3 being the better player.

Wemby at center
Portis and TM3 at forwards
Fox and Castle at guards

Kornet at center
Keldon and Barnes at forwards
Harper and Champ at guards

Solid!

I'm not giving up Vassell + picks for TM3. I'd give up salary ballast + picks... I might even give up (hot take) Castle + salary ballast, but I'm not giving a real(active) player + picks. I'm not including Barnes as an real/active player in this scenario.

Huh? You're not including Vassell or Barnes, but might include Castle?

Yup.... I'm not nearly as high on Castle as others here.... I've been skeptical of his shot for a while and I don't believe it'll ever come around and without it he's just not as valuable... like I said, I know its a hot take..

Edit: I didnt see the Barnes part of your statement. I'd absolutely include Barnes... my statement was about not including any other real active players outside of Castle and I don't consider Barnes as a real/active player so he could be part of salary ballast.

Mo is also saying that he'd send Castle instead of picks. So it would be Castle + whatever matching salary is required to make the deal work. So essentially it just becomes a straight up trade of Castle for TMIII.
