Game Thread Spurs (32-16) vs Magic (25-22) (Sun 2/01/26) [8:00PM CST]

Thank God.

Wemby was god awful in morning games. This one has postponed and these late night games really bring the best out of him
He was pretty good in the morning game on Christmas against the Knicks last year… but then again he tends to get a boost when the spotlight is on him

48-34 rebounding advantage tonight. Good to see after the Charlotte game, especially since ORL has some size

I really thought Mitch would pull the French Vanilla at the end of the game tonight

Will be dumb if team World doesn't have an international coach.
I hope Mitch coaches the world team because if there was ever a time for Mitch’s bullshit rotations and Wemby minutes restriction… it’s that meaningless set of games

Very good win. Really needed that one.

So I guess Wemby won't be playing more than 30 minutes for the rest of the regular season.

Good luck trying to play him 35 minutes without him getting gassed in the playoffs, tbh.

I was a bit worried as he looked physically fucked up/tired on that last dunk/play he made to cap the win. It looked like his energy was close to shot at that point. Yeah, maybe it's due the back-to-back/travel, but his stamina is not looking good.

we won 3 of 4 quarters against ORL, and 3 of 4 quarters against CHA

but that one quarter we lose has been catastrophic both times (second quarter in both games as well)

Victor was a big culprit this game as the offense is so disjointed and goes to shit with him sometimes. They turn the ball over trying to force the ball to him, he sometimes brings it to a grinding halt when he's trying to create/score.

Funny how good things tend to happen when there are Fox/Wemby P'n'R actions. One might almost think this could be a play that ought to be explored more often ...

the first time it was because we played french vanilla against a team with barely a center, and the second time it was for playing CB.

As per usual, Spurs are their own worst enemy and one bad stretch compromises the entire game.
I don't think there's a coincidence second quarter was so terrible, that opening lineup was really bad.

Champ/Barnes/Bryant together just can't happen. Three players that can't put the ball on the floor.
When one of the three guards isn't available, Devin has to go into that three man rotation and always be on the floor when one of the two available guards is sitting.
Not ideal, but he's the only secondary ballhandler we have at that point.
I guess there's also Keldon for certain situations. Not having him on the floor, either, is also a fuck up by Mitch, if you ask me.

And as I said when the game ended, ideally we move Castle to that Keldon-like role of being a bully that has mismatches and driving lanes created for him.

Fox/Harper
Castle/Keldon
Devin/Champ/Barnes
As the perimeter roles. Bryant minutes if needed.

Nah this game was different. Back to back with a snow storm causing all sorts of delays combined with him being questionable for the game. I thought he would play less. But where have you been? His minutes over the last 6 games: 30, 33, 31, 29, 31, 28. So he’s been playing 30+ mins already. I think the game after all star break is where we will see a consistent 33+ mins
