Game Thread Spurs (32-16) vs Magic (25-22) (Sun 2/01/26) [8:00PM CST]

This much snow in the South is unusual but happens more often than what happened last week. That said, it'll be enough to shut down NC for a day or two.
Oh right, so it's not anything new/unusual that it is snowing, but it's the amount of snow that is more than usual (have I got that right?)?

Either way, they should just stay there as long as they have to and only go when it's safe.

I'm thinking there is confidence they will get out tomorrow if the game has been rescheduled. Their safety is the most important thing of course. My killer tickets notwithstanding.

I'd rather the team be safe than fly out earlier. Like, is snow in these places something that happens from time to time?

I don't know much about snow and travelling when it's snowing and/or how safe it is. It's going to be over 40 degrees celsius where I'm at. I haven't lived anywhere where it's snowed. Only snow I've seen is when I was on holiday in NZ.
Depends on where you're at, how prepared they are for it, and how well equipped they are.

From what the Jacob Tobey clip showed as a crippling weather event at the Charlotte airport would probably have been a minor incident in Buffalo, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, etc.

When we moved to the Finger Lakes in upstate NY, a friend told me that snow clearing was sort of a competitive sport and science practiced by local governments and state agencies. When you're on the main roads, they're generally plowed, salted, and sanded. Doesn't mean you can drive normally and that's the biggest danger: many people think you can and proceed to put other people in harm's way by going too fast, following too closely, braking too hard, or turning too quickly, then sliding.

In the Great East Texas Icepocalypse last weekend, when maybe an eighth to a quarter inch of ice shut down most of local traffic and I-69, we stayed inside, because it just made sense not to tempt fate.❄️

Awesome, thanks for the information @Area 51.247
I didn't think about the same conditions being normal elsewhere that is more equipped to handle it.

Sounds pretty tough driving around too. Looks like you gotta take a lot into account (not driving too close, breaking too hard, cornering too fast etc.). I guess it's all common sense, but if you're not used to it, it would be easy to make mistakes if you're not diligent about it.

He says they beat us three times? Was it three times? I thought it was two losses against the Suns. Is Brooks going to be happy that he's posted this (not that I care).

Hopefully Victor sees it and takes it personal.
Suns beat the Spurs twice but only once with Wemby, and the game that Wemby played they hit 20+ threes. That said, he ain't wrong on how to guard Wemby tbh. Until he develops a go-to move at least.

Alright, so the game's on. Darn. I hope the Spurs can win it. I won't be able to watch live, but I hope the Spurs win. They're going to likely be tired, but also, hopefully they're not looking ahead to OKC either and don't put full focus in on this game.

Just saw this on reddit:

The Spurs’ flight from Charlotte back to San Antonio has diverted to Atlanta.

Flight number is DL8942
Poor weather prevented the team from departing Charlotte after last night’s game against the Hornets.

So they probably go straight from the airport to the arena or practice facility.

I have downgraded my expectations for this team, but any win is welcome now to avoid the risk of falling into the play-in and the potential catastrophic scenario of undoing all season work in 2 elimination games

I don't see any problem, as long as they manage to get to the arena in time. It's not like they prepare any plays or matchups or anything at all. It will only benefit them to get a jolt in the sistem by real life. I think they will come swinging.

Yeah, we get snow, but this was a blizzard. It was insane.
