What dies he mean year round rodeo
Prop A was voted on and passed on Tuesday. It was a ballot measure to raise Bexar County’s hotel occupancy tax from 1.75% to 2% to help fund a $197 million redevelopment of the Frost Bank Center, Freeman Coliseum, and stock show/rodeo grounds — with the long-term goal being to turn the East Side into a year-round rodeo and event destination.

Good thing the area vote was a few days ago and not today lol
I was going to post that, but I thought it might be going over the top too much. The Spurs got lucky with the timing as I was thinking that the vote might not have passed if it was a week later.

good thing the vote didn't come down to the pendulous emotions of this forum.

I think the vote fails without the 5-0 start and Wemby looking like the best player in the league in that stretch. I mean it was only +4 vs the +20 the SBC Center vote got right after winning the 99 title.

Bexar County has elected to build, and subsequently demolish, a new arena for the Spurs
that fits right in with the spurs are great, spurs suck swings of some of our more mercurial posters.

Yep, that is what I mean. Spurs fans were riding on a high and it may have helped sway it a bit. The Phoenix loss was just one loss and people thought Victor would bounce back the next game.

some of the differences that I can think of were 1) COPS/Metro was on board with the county plan after opposing the sales tax increase that Peak had proposed and 2) the Alamodome was not a basketball arena. This was going to be a hard sell in this current economic environment so I was shocked that the prop passed, tbh. in this case, the North Side vote was really the difference.

Phoenix loss is probably what it dropped off from +6 in the early vote to +4 after including the day of vote tbh :ROFLMAO:

Really expected this to go down 45-55 when the season began, and think it would have had Victor not come out of the gates looking like 7'6" Jordan. I always default to expecting these votes to fail though since once you peel away party labels the vast majority of voters hate gifts to millionaires and billionaires. Of course excepting cases like OKC where they just won a title and look to be a dynasty going forward, just like the Spurs did in 99.

Gina Jones didn't get the voters message won't go the fuck away. Hedging on whether she'll support the city's part of Project Marvel. Obviously planning a guerrilla war against the Spurs and the new arena. Probably hoping to extort more financial compensation for her supporters and causes.

She's a bad politician as far as actual skills, and seems grating to be around, but I have no problem with her being some sort of presence not giving the owners a free pass on everything. Before I was ok with Holt Jr. until I heard him speaking and he came across as a typical rich kid. That turned me off.

A lot of details need to be worked out for this development. It will go over budget, and personally I'd rather the city and the people not have to pay for all the over runs. Perhaps the Spurs are saying they will indeed do that, but I didn't get that sense.

So, I'm not here to defend the mayor, but I'm not siding with Holt either. I just want the Spurs to stay and play downtown and it not to be another cluster fuck.

Yeah I'm with Truth on this one... the plan passed and it's gonna get built, now the city's posture should switch to making sure everything from here on out is for the best outcome for the city, not for SS&E

It doesn’t matter what she plans. Mayor is more or less a ceremonial position. She’s basically one member of city council, and she has a title. The council already has the votes, with or without hers.

If she were a popular and skilled politician she could use her bully pulpit to pressure the Spurs in the court of public opinion, to some extent, because the Spurs crave their squeaky clean image, which takes work from many parties to maintain.

But she is neither popular or skilled, and I think that is why she will likely have little influence on this matter moving forward --not because the office of mayor offers no potential for power. She just bungled her legitimacy right out of the gate.

she is only a few steps away from that communist Mumdani. Total loser. Worst mayor we have ever had.

Only have one person on my social media feeds that was actively against it and he's currently losing his shit :st-lmao:
Literally saw no downside. A quarter raise in the sales tax to hotels snd the spurs pay a giant chunk.
Also the city came to them about the damn arena bot the other way around.

Y'all think the league gave the organization an easy schedule before election day on purpose?

The 150 million County tax contribution....

WTF does some NY rag have to do with SATX issues?
