It’s absolutely necessary. Going down 1-2 to these bums would be catastrophic to our non-Vic guys’ confidence. If he’s good enough for shoot around he should be good enough to play, even in a restricted fashion

I think it's safe to say he doesn't have permanent brain damage. He just might survive and play basketball again.

Maybe it knocked a mental blockage loose and going forward he'll just pop a quick set shot over the midgets with a hand raised near his chin

I tend to lean that way too, but it's in the hands of the medical staff. They won't risk anything. If there's any doubt whatsoever, they'll play it safe and sit him imo. Hopefully all is clear by tipoff and he's good to go tonight though.

Man if Wemby does indeed end up playing tomorrow you can imagine he's gonna be pissed. His team just lost a very winable game without him in which he was forced out of because of a fluke play....

Super hopes he learns from that fluke cause this was avoidable at least a couple of ways.
Dude needs to dial is back just slightly to play more in control to avoid these falls, and when falling decide to take a TO so he can brace himself. I don't ever remember seeing something land directly on their chin like much, much less a dude that fell from 8 feet up.

Gotta push back on this. You don't need to go to the hospital if you have a concussion, and a concussion wouldn't necessarily mean you are out for a few weeks.

Only when a person displays "red flag" symptoms like vomiting, worsening headaches, passing out, etc. should a concussion require a visit to the hospital.

Whether or not Wemby was officially diagnosed with a concussion, I do not know (although I recall Mitch saying in the post game that Wemby had a concussion)... but even if he did, that wouldn't necessitate a hospital stay nor would i require him being out for a couple of weeks.

While there are varying grades of a concussion (you can have a mild concussion or a severe concussion) - one thing that you nailed that is very important, once he is cleared then he is cleared. There is no minutes restriction type stuff applicable to this kind of injury. He's either good to go or he's not. If he was out for 3 weeks with a concussion maybe he might return on minutes restriction for conditioning, but it wouldn't be because of the concussion.

Yeah, people have a hard time understanding everything is a continuum. Just because something is generally categorized the same doesn't mean its the same. There are grades to everything, sprains, tears, fractures, contusions, heart attacks, strokes, concussions.

The vast vast vast majority of concussions are very minor, and don't cause any symptoms or issues after a day or day, few of these ever go to the hospital. Concussions can be very serious or they can be very minor. Yes, the NFL fucked up, CTE is real, there can be lasting effects. You never wait to have any medical issue, but that doesn't mean every medical issue is a big deal nor is every concussion a big deal. The concussion protocol is there for just this reason, if he's cleared and he's good, no reason to limit him a second more than he wants to be limited.

I think there are people here that would seriously prefer he plays extremely limited minutes as a matter of course, because every minute he plays is a minute he may get hurt. Some people prefer to live there lives in fear of "what if"

We can go down 1-2 and still win the series. I think we have to stop thinking this team is mentally weak. They’ve showed plenty of mental strength all season long. 1-3 yeah that would suck but not impossible. You have to win one road game and then go home for the seventh game.

It can’t be directly visualized on imaging except in severe cases (not this one), and instead is diagnosed and managed through clinical assessment. So there's no REAL way here to 100% ensure he's actually back at baseline. The team medical staff is making a very educated guess.

Should he get the chair pulled again or whatever (since the League obviously isn't concerned with protecting him from these types of plays at this point), a second head injury in such a short span could be catastrophic. With a second head injury that close together, the concern isn’t just another concussion and a resetting of the protocol. It’s increased brain vulnerability that could lead to something like increased intracranial pressure and/or worse. That’s why Spurs being extremely conservative, even if he barely clears protocol, wouldn't bother me
