NBA Official 2026 NBA Playoffs Thread

Yeah, because Spurs fans tend to be way too overzealous with "mah, culture". Getting CP3 was an unpopular opinion back then and that turned out to be just fine.

CP3 was fine on a transition period with nothing to aim for other than developing players for a year.
KD is a loser throwing teammates under the bus, making every team he is playing worst and is injured half of the time.
Nothing to do with mah culture.
No thank you.

Oh and yes I changed my mind on this topic. I thought he could bring shooting to a team that desperatly need spacing to be efficient. Now even getting him without letting Fox go I say no. Houston was a young promissing team with a lot of prospects and potential, in one year he has killed Sengun confidence and transformed Houston into a joke.

Looking at him yelling at Sengun on defense when 99% of the time he is the one not doing his job is mind blowing.

Just one of similar replies I got when I made a thread about acquiring CP3 a couple of years back.

You're just failing to understand the baggage that Durant brings tbh. I'm all for bringing in guys that aren't 100% in line with "Spurs culture" but Durant has such a long history of being a horrible locker room presence across literally every single team he's been on that I sincerely question a fan's understanding of how the Spurs operate if they're still advocating for bringing him in tbh.

The on-court product might be good for 60-80% of the season. But as fans, we see about 10% of the team. The other 90% (practices, traveling, meetings, locker rooms, etc.) are just as important and probably even more so than the 10%. And by all accounts and historical evidence, the 10% where Durant looks good is not worth the shit he puts his coaches/teammates through the other 90%.

I don't care who we face in Round Two, as I like our chances with both teams. I understand people thinking Nuggets will pull off the comeback from down 3-1. I still think Minny at home is not a given win for Denver. Any word on Luka?

Outside of his feud with Draymond, who has had feuds with everybody, I don't recall any real life beef Durant has had with teammates. All his problems comes from his burners. If we can keep that in check, we should be dandy, tbh. :st-lol:

Spurs finished the season 14th in 3PT% (38%) and 4th in 2PT% (57%).

This is interesting....but I wouldn't read TOO much into it. OKC shot 33.8% from 3 last year in the playoffs and won the title. If we want to be more accurate, someone here could figure out what we've shot as a team since February, and that might change things quite a bit on that chart.

He quit on OKC. Justified at the time, but as it turns out it wasn't an isolated incident.
He quit on GSW because he realized it adds nothing to his legacy.
He got Atkinson fired in favor of the clueless Nash, they started Deandre's corpse over Claxton, Kyrie went into tinfoil hat mode, Harden asked for a trade and KD was gone.
Went to the Suns that won 51 and 64 games in two previous seasons, got there at the trade deadline, didn't raise their ceiling at all, asked for a trade after less than two full seasons there.
Rockets honeymoon was over after a few months and he's looked miserable ever since.

Once or twice can happen, but he's on his 5th team and it ended badly every single time, with basically the entire team hating him.

Man, Pistons are about to give Duren a massive extension tbh. When frankly, Beef Stew is the guy I want when I'm heading into big playoff games.
Nah, he is too undisciplined defensively and too limited offensively, in my opinion. But yeah, Duren has really been shitting the bed in the playoffs so far.

No it's definitely not a huge deal, just thought I'd share it anyways. Spurs were top-3 in both Offensive Rating and Defensive Rating this season and that's much more important.

I prefer the term "BIG" and my ideal version for us is someone who can play both PF and C. I know this like wanting to have your cake and eat it to in some respects, but that's why I landed on Morez Johnson Jr as my preferred pick. He's sometimes listed as a wing for some reason, but I don't see that at all. Dude listed 6'9" 250 and allegedly has a 7'3" reach (the combine measurements may impact my viewpoint here.)

He can bang around, set screens, offer good rim protection, and also I do believe there is some shooting upside to be found, potentially. (78% ft/33% 3 on low volume.) He's a terrible playmaker but we have a gazillion of those already. If Wemby or Kornet goes down, he becomes the "small ball" center (6'9" isn't *that* small with his reach, and he's bigger than Carter), but he can also be subbed in at PF very comfortably. Others have commented that they haven't seen enough of his perimeter defense chops to be convinced, but at the very least he has the reputation of being able to switch and hold his own easily.

That said, I've watched him play like 40 minutes in total. I haven't (and likely won't) do a deep dive on our draft options this year but he sort of sticks out as someone who may be available and can kinda slide into a role I think we need. At pick 20 we're going to be gambling anyway, but since we're already a contender, it's like gambling with house money in a way. This is the very first time in a long time that I've ever felt the Spurs should draft for fit rather than BPA (unless we're particularly high on someone.)
Would it be fair to compare Morez to a guy like Timelord or Beef Stew? Because I'm interested in that kind of dude as big.

Outside of GS, where he left because of his beef with Draymond, all the other teams dissapointed, that's why he left. You might say: those teams dissapointed because of him, and that might be the case, but at 38 years old and with Wemby and all the talent on this team, I'm sure we would get a Durant that would be fine with just playing a role.

I don't see how a role playing Durant that fits perfectly on this team could disappoint, and winning would prevent all the BS that he had with other teams, imho.

Beef stew is the most common comp, yeah. He's a gamble but I don't see why not. I'm sure the Spurs will have someone else they think is particularly juicy there tho. But since I got a little crush on the dude, I'll likely follow his season next year with interest.

He would disappoint because he'd surely be unhappy that with being the third option.

FWIW, I was with you before this year on bringing him in for the right price. Again agreed that he's a great fit basketball wise.

But after this season with Houston, with the burner shit and just how much of a shitty leader he's been with Houston's young core, I'm a hard pass now tbh. I think he'd be a terrible influence on Vic.

Brian Wright is paying the price of having Wemby here. He deserves a lot more credit for this, but is getting discounted because of how good Wemby is.

BREAKING: Brian Wright has been named BaselineBums NBA Executive of the Year
if Wright acquired a 3rd Center he'd have won this award unanimously tbh fwiw imo iirc

Durant is going to be Durant . When has he shown that he is willing to be the role playing guy and stay the course. .What makes one think he will take on a new persona overnite and be a supportive teammate when he has not done this up to now.. Pettiness , burner accounts, all the things to destroy a team's chemistry.

I think Vic would tell him to f---- off.

Yeah, the state of the team's Center rotation behind Wemby and Kornet (two injury-prone Cs) is a pretty big knock to BWrong tbh.

Wright kind of didn't do much this season?
CB and Kornet being his two best moves. Haprer was obvious.

Stevens had one of the best summers ever. Lost his entire frontcourt rotation, was in cap hell and still managed to keep the roster on the same level while his franchise player was recovering for the most of the season.
