Trade Official 2025-2026 Trade Deadline Thread

It would be great to have ESPN in Shambles after Giannis doesn't move, but that would only mean having to listed to all the idiotic narratives for another half a year.
Yep, ESPN won't care because they can continue their daily "Does Giannis want out?" segments

I much rather see Spurs do nothing than having to take Portis contract or than trading a first round pick for a player like Aldama.

Carter Bryant looking way better allow Spurs to stand pat at that deadline.
It does seem like CB’s good performance of late has probably made the Spurs stand pat on the mobile stretch 4. They still need however a backup C.

Every year we excitingly wait for the Spurs to splurge on a star player, then the trade deadline pass without much than another 2nd round pickup. They’ve been doing the same for decades. I don’t see why they’d suddenly do different this year

Literally a year ago we traded for a star player

Would be surprised if Spurs make a move at the deadline... they usually don't so not sure what everyone else is expecting.

The team performance has been frustrating but they're still outperforming expectations. Next year though I can see more players on the trading block if the inconsistent shooting continues.

They have made deadline moves most of the last few seasons though. Most of us aren't expecting a major move but turning our expiring useless players (Sochan/Olynyk) into a rotational piece would be nice

Looking like we are keeping the powder dry as they say. Draft and free agency will apparently be our way to improve. Looking like we will have around $40 million in expiring and extending Wemby, re-signing Champ and maybe Barnes while adding a MLE player and another small piece or two will be the approach, predictably. Might get lucky in the draft, again!, or trade the pick for a useful player. Typical Spursian low-key strategy. Grabbing a player off waivers might happen, too.

Still some time left, but...... :st-depressed:

This year really feels/felt like a very good time to make a strategic acquisition with any one of the assets we have. I guess last season's Fox trade got my hopes up for this season to be a repeater :st-lol:

having to buyout sochan would be so incredibly disappointing. I mean complete bums can get you at least cash considerations.

A top 10 pick who can't even get you cash or second rounders in a trade is absolutely bottom of the barrel pathetic

True, but that is a false dichotomy: Cleveland, Minnesota, OKC, Lakers, have all made moves that address their needs to some extent at least. When you watch good players move for 2nd rounders (which the Spurs have a lot of and can't seem to hit one in ages) you wonder if there isn't really any deal out there to be had, or there's some sense of complacency. Not saying they should make a big splashy move for the sake of it (I have always been against that, going back to Simons, Lavine, Trae Young, etc), but is there really no one out there who can be had for a couple 2nd rounders and at least can help the Spurs somewhat when they can't buy a 3 or keep teams from murdering them on the board
Agree. My point is Spurs should be very picky when it comes to trading away first round picks and when taking salaries that goes past 2027.

Spurs will have 3 second round picks this summer. These picks are currently #36, #41 and #46. They can for sure use one or two of these picks to improve the team. I'm not sure Spurs will get a lot from them on draft day while everybody knows they won't keep them all.

ESPN will never run out of idiotic narratives. That's at least 2/3 of their entire business model.

Why exactly should the spurs be picky about trading away 1st round picks? History has shown that once your team gets to a certain level, the least optimal way for them to get good is to do it through selecting a player in the draft. Once you reach a certain level it's highly unlikely adding a player with 0 nba experience is going to help. Could be debated if the spurs are at that level yet but if not, then they are close.

If I had to list all the ways the spurs can get better from this point forward the least efficient and most volatile way for it to happen would be with just selecting players in the draft. Gambling on unknown quantities when you have known quantities isn't a wise way to build a team.

Yeah. The odd man out seems Sochan though. He could head towards the waived contract scenario or a fire is lit under his ass and he at least gets back to last year's level on defense. I suspect the first though. Telling how no one is willing to bite to get him. Thats how teams are put off from bad shooting in today's NBA.
Sure he’s the odd man but nobody wants him. He doesn’t carry any independent value aside from being expiring salary filler. So we aren’t going to get anything desirable in a player swap
