They made it worth approximately $6.5MM more for the winner than it is for the 2nd place team.

Money will be a motivator for the players no doubt but as a fan who knows that the players I cheer for already make millions anyways, it doesn’t do much for me unless I get a piece of that lol.

I think someone said it best in another thread, the game against OKC was our championship game and getting that win ought to do wonders for this teams confidence going forward regardless of what happens against the knicks. The knicks game personally just feels like a “meh” game for me but I’m likely in the minority.

European Football cups also don't count for the standings or stats... but fans have no trouble getting up for those. Sounds like a you problem, tbh.

What's the downside?
Our guys need all the experience they can get and playing OKC is the best way to do it.
I'd rather have them fully focused for 48 minutes against OKC even if we're losing than have them go up by 20 against the Pelicans and start fucking around.

If we can stay healthy we're surely a top6 seed.
Everything else is a bonus this season.
If we're actually aiming to be a legit contender, then we need to try and get a top3 seed to avoid OKC in the second round.

Pretty much this. This NBA Cup run and the 3 games in 10 days vs the 70 plus win-bound, defending Champs OKC are going to be so valuable for a team so short on playoffs experience.

That's the purpose of deeeeep bench players, sometimes, isn't it? Especially one who can speak to your lead players in his native language and idiom about the trials and tribulations of playoff challenges.
