Middleton could be that guy.So, Spurs signed him for the rest of the season without him playing a single minute and while they could have given him a second 10 days contract. That's surprising.
I guess they really wanted to have a Kevin Willis kind of player at the end of their bench. I still think they also need a Steve Kerr kind of player to round the roster, we will see if they do something about that.
Bang!Or all three of Biyombo, Waters and Olynyk, for all their contributions
I think it's likely there was friction between Sochan and Mitch. When they couldn't find any takers for him it was inevitable he was getting movedOn the other hand…id have just preferred if the spurs had kept sochan???
Unless, as some have mentioned…maybe spurs were just doing sochan a solid?
We don’t need Olynyk on this roster tbh
Good better to worlds better than Bismack at everything except shot blocking. I have much more confidence in him as an emergency big. Hopefully this means we cut Bismack and take a flyer on someone who could maybe contribute in the POs. Georges Niang was a quality, 20mpg role player last yr. Very good shooter, he'd easily be the best on the team by career avg. Been hurt all yr, but I'd much rather roster him than BB as the now 5th center. If not him, someone with just one good NBA skill would be nice. BB can stick around as a staff towel waiver, but he shouldn't be taking a roster spot.
Getting Middleton would be great, so low risk, very easy to see him contributing, perhaps in an important way.supposedly he’s a big character guy and that matters with a team full of youngns. Middleton as an end of the bench guy would be clutch af..
At least a couple of them should be able to, I think Plumlee will be one.Man I love high character guys but some of our end of bench guys need to also be able to play basketball. In the playoffs unexpected things (injuries/foul trouble) will happen and we need a guy or 2 who can come in and have productive stretches.
DJG was potentially one but he is out. Maybe I am under estimating what Plumdog has left but considering he is coming back from surgery and wasn’t able to stick with the Hornets I am not optimistic. Biyombo is beyond done, Olynyk isn’t far behind.
Good call. I'm guessing Sweeney knows him well enough to tell the Spurs to sign him for the remainder of the season. I'll have to lookup what teams Sean's been on as a coach. Anyone know off the top of their head? I remember Milwaukee and Dallas, didn't know he did a stint in Brooklyn too.Interesting that Sweeney coached Plummlee in Brooklyn and Detroit. Probably weighed heavily into this signing.
Sweeney could be a factor for Middleton in the buyout market as well.Darn, why not at least give Plumlee a second 10 day contact. And I agree with Bruno, and it's kind of what I wanted anyway, a Steve Kerr type to round out the bench. Maybe that can be Middleton if he's bought out?

Spurs could add two kind of player:Middleton could be that guy.
We don't know if most of this roster is ready for playoff basketball tbh. That said, adding Middleton in place of Biyombo/Olynyk can only help.Spurs could add two kind of player:
- A player to take Carter Bryant spot in the rotation.
- A player, likely a pure shooter, who will be at the very end of the bench. This is the Steve Kerr kind of player.
Middleton is clearly in the first category.
What Spurs should do depends on your evaluation of the team and Bryant. If you think that Spurs are a legit contender and that Bryant isn't ready for playoffs basketball, going after Middleton makes a lot of sense.
He also coached Middleton in MilwaukeeInteresting that Sweeney coached Plummlee in Brooklyn and Detroit. Probably weighed heavily into this signing.
He's in playoff form already, love to see it!
