Mason Plumlee is signing a 10-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs [Shams]

Used to love his spring, hope he's still got it at 35!
Woulda rather've gotten perimeter D help.

So Bismack & Kelly are done?

not a bad player, but he'll be 36 within weeks. and this would make more sense as a bismack replacement than one for sochan's spot

At least another guy that can bang on wemby in practice like Biyombo does. Does not look like Plumlee got much playing time in Charlotte. And at 35 does he have anything left in the tank? Sad that still would challenge Olynyk and Biyombo though. Can't have too much bigs depth for wemby insurance.

Welp…the only reason this MIGHT be ok is if he can knock some heads when wemby gets targeted for hacks and dirty play like that kunt podzemic and also the way phoenix tried to manhandle wemby….

As the playoffs get closer teams will be trying to muscle wemby and throw him off his game and destroy wembys skinny arms everytime wemby goes in for a drive…

If plumlee can get his hands dirty with dylan brooks, dort and others….he might be worth throwing him in so that spurs wont have wemby or kornet in deep foul trouble or needless wear and tear…

But ive never been a fan of plumlee…

Agreed, if it's a Biyombo replacement it's fine, but if he's your "buyout market signing", he's very underwhelming.

Lol those highlights actually kind of rip.

This is a fine try-out. Guess they want to see if he works out before a full signing for the rest of the year.

Not sure why anyone would be disappointed. The team doesn't seem to want any salary after this season and they just need to fill out the corners of the roster. They have third string guards and Olynyk seems to not do it for them anymore, or they just want more big man insurance.

I'm glad they're willing to keep their options open. But the thing about a 10-day contract is that the player has to get run to see if he's worth keeping. I feel like Wemby isn't going to sit unless he absolutely has to, because he wants DPOY badly. Kornet has been missing time recently, so maybe he'll sit. The only other option is that the Spurs might want to experiment with Wemby and two centers in the rotation.

There was a time when Mason was considered to be a decently skilled big (this is before Victor and the Jokic-archetype, obviously). He could put the ball on the floor and dish it. He's not a shooter, but he provides a different kind of vertical spacing than Kornet, as he doesn't need his guards to get him the ball all the way at the rim. He's probably not a rotation piece, but he could fill in.

Best thing about this contract is that it's over before the buyout deadline. The Spurs should be actively working with vets to see if anyone is interested in signing on. This isn't like normal free agency where that sort of thing is tampering. A lot of times, vets won't take a buyout unless they have their next team picked. So the Spurs can and should be courting options, even as they give Mason a chance to show what he can do.

I hoping I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, but we have games against SAC and BKN in this 10-day window that may provide an opportunity for Plumlee to get a little playing time (either in garbage time, or better, to give Luke a day off)

On the other hand…id have just preferred if the spurs had kept sochan???

Unless, as some have mentioned…maybe spurs were just doing sochan a solid?

Plumlee it’s better than Biyambo by default. Not the pickup anyone was clamoring for. However, he is most likely content on getting minimal minutes ona contending team and hopefully is serviceable as an emergency 3rd center which BB is not. We will see if anyone else comes available. Plumlee on a 10 day hedges on the possibility of not finding a better option.
