NBA Kawitters Legacy taking another hit

I dno't remember how many picks the TWolves lost for the Joe Smith debacle but this should be a bigger penalty than that. And Kawhi should lose a lot too.

5 FRP. But the league only took 3 IIRC.

The difference is that there was a smoking gun for that Twolves incident and Stern rules with an iron fist.

Now it is the richest owner in all sports who can buy the entire league vs the soft Silver who always side with the players and owners.....

Whatever the punishment ends up being, it'll be a disappointing one for sure. Too much money at stake, nobody's kicking Ballmer out of the league nor handing such a punishment as to make the Clippers a slobber franchise for a decade (as they should).

Sad to think if it had been San Antonio, or Charlotte, or any other small market, they'd be banished or made to sell the team. But Mr Microsoft's L.A. team, with the brand-new billionaire arena? We'll be lucky to see a slap on the wrist IMO.

The Thunder owning the Clips' future picks makes it so much more difficult, as well. Just hopeless.

I'm the latest hoops collective, they sure did pump up his legacy off the back of this season's resurgence

I can both appreciate him, AND think he and his family are all trash.

Uncle Dennis is trash and he's mentally weak, both for committing to leaving for California and also for missing that free throw which would have rendered Ray Allen's three pretty much useless since they would have been out of timeouts.

I still dream about 6 about once a week and it's 2026

Psh did anybody actually believe that pansy Adam Silver would bring down the hammer on the richest owner in the sport? Balmer probably threatened him with lawyers and lawsuits behind the scenes and Silver wanted no part of the bad publicity for years to come. I hope the nepobabies who own the Spurs have some ganas and sue Silver and the NBA over it. Or else it’s open season on Wemby for literally all the top destination teams in the league

Meh...Silver won't bring down the hammer on Ballmer. He needs his wallet too much.

I'm sure Adam wished this would have never come out.

Feels like the Clippers won't sniff one of their own FRPs until the 2030s anyway. Not sure how much the league can punish them beyond their own mismanagement.

Tough call. On one hand he hated the Spurs and said he wanted a Lakers vs Lakers finals in 2004 when we lost on that BS fisher shot. OTOH he took shit from nobody and levied punishments to everyone

Damn....so OKC don't get top 5 pick in 2026 draft, but they still have another great chance to get top 5 pick in 2027 draft

Amazing what stupid teams gave them as they got rid of their insanely overrated players.

Everytime another Pablo Torre nugget drops I feel like we're in some bizzaro version of Chris Rock's Michael Jackson bit:

"ANOTHER KID?????"

Maybe for tampering compensation Silver can order Ballmer to pay any and all money found in Ballmer’s couch cushions to Peter Holt so we can actually use some of our 2nd rounders to draft guys instead of cash considerations.

Have seen speculation that the CBA doesn't allow the NBA to suspend Kawhi for the duration of his contract should it be voided (which should be the punishment).

if that's the case they should suspend nephew for 2 seasons. Which they probably won't. The NBA will just void his contract and he'll sign with the Warriors or Lakers and make the same money he would've made on the Clippers.
That's what snake knows already so he is playing well this year to trick some FO into giving him a bag next year and then he will be off sick again busy counting money with his greedy uncle.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding things here, but my guess would be that "cap circumvention" is a charge that can only be leveled against a franchise, not an individual player, right? I mean the cap is not something players are responsible for, that's the teams' territory. So Kawhi might be something like a co-defendant in this whole thing, but even if his contract were to be voided, that would in essence be a punishment doled out against the Clippers, not Kawhi.

You are right....referring to precedent case (the T-Wolves cap circumvention for Joe Smith in 2000)

In 2000, the Minnesota Timberwolves were severely penalized for a salary cap circumvention scheme involving secret, illegal contract agreements with forward Joe Smith. The NBA fined the team $3.5 million, stripped them of five first-round draft picks (two were later reinstated), and forced key executives to take leaves of absence.
  • The Scheme: The Timberwolves signed illegal side agreements with Joe Smith, promising him future, lucrative contracts to stay with the team while bypassing salary cap rules.
  • Penalties:
    • Draft Picks: Five first-round draft picks were stripped (later reduced to three).
    • Fine: A $3.5 million fine was imposed on the team.
    • Voided Contracts: All existing contracts for Smith were voided, including his "Bird rights," essentially forcing him to leave the team.
    • Suspensions: Owner Glen Taylor and GM Kevin McHale were forced to step away from team operations for a period.

Joe Smith was not suspended or anything. So Nephew will be an instant Free Agent and free to join any team that have cap space to sign him if Silver follow Stern's penalty :st-lol::st-lol::st-lol:
