NBA Kawitters Legacy taking another hit

Wow, this is fucking serious, one of the most egregious scandals I can remember in sports. Ballmer needs to be banned from ownership and Kawhi probably needs to be banned as well. But it'll get swept under the rug - this country is sinking like a stone.

If Joe smith got the wolves stripped of three first round picks, they should hand three picks of the clippers to the spurs as compensation, void Kawhi’s contract and ban uncle Dennis for life.

They need to wait until everybody signs someone and nobody has cap room. THEN void his contract and require him to sign with somebody for a minimum of seven years.

I recall hearing a few years ago that this in particular was something that Kawhi didn't like (might have even been timvp, RIP, who said this?). Have heard other commentators also mention that what the Spurs did here is a practice that tends to rub players and agents the wrong way (and that is understandable since it adds an element of risk to a player getting an extension that they would rather avoid).

I never thought that this would be *the* thing that caused the split though... wild if so. You'd think that if it's that big of a deal, the player and agent would make it known at the time at which point the team can decide on whether or not that's the star they want to continue to build around or if maybe they should start thinking of other options. At the same time, from an organizational standpoint you sure as shit want to have your star player's blessing before doing this kind of move. That part is so obvious that I'd be shocked if the Spurs didn't think they had Kawhi's blessing. Perhaps Kawhi signed off but because he's unable to use his words to share his feelings he secretly resented the team for it.

It may also be linking due to early concerns regarding Kawhi health ? (he played only 63 games per year his first 4 years with the Spurs). You delay extension to get flexibility to sign a free agent (LMA) but also gain one year to check health, it is possible this health concern was alson known by Kawhi camp who wanted to sign as soon as possible securing future creating tensions that went bananas afterwards.

At the end it is clear Kawhi would force his way to LA at one point anyway. Everything might happen for a reason, we clearly lost a shot at 6th but all is leading to landing Victor and get ready for a new winning era instead of having maintened Kawhi 3 or 4 years that would have prolongated the end of the precedent.

Total vindication for San Antonio fans after everyone including and especially the media did extensive both-sides'ing in the wake of Kawhi's exit.

Kawhi was my fav player with Spurs after Tim Duncan.

The year after our Championship, I felt like I was watching prime Jordan out there. He was so damn focused.

Uncle dennis killed his legendary status… Had he stayed in good faith and our FO built around him, we would have been with atleast another 2-3 championships by now.
That's an interesting question. Personally, due to Kawhi's health, if he stayed (I don't know if you guys think he would have played more games and been healthier with the Spurs with the way they would have manged him - thus being on the court more giving him and the team more chances to win more), I don't know about winning 2-3 more Championships. I'm thinking they could have won one more, but not sure about any more than that (it just depends how his health would have turned out with the Spurs - if he still would have sat out a similar amount of games or not). I also wonder if he did stay and sat out a similar amount of games as he's done with the Clippers, would the Spurs would have ended up with some high draft picks to put around him if he wasn't able to play.

Personally, and I'm guessing most would agree, I'd much rather be where the Spurs are at now. I believe the potential to win more Championships is much higher than if Kawhi were to have stayed.

Currently it seems that OKC is whining that Utah is tanking and this is driving the narrative.

I wish the Spurs were more vocal about their own legitimate grievances. They legit have compensation coming their way, at least major concerns there, from what Ballmer and the Clippers did. It's not simply about punishing them, but making us whole.

OKC can't be talking about tanking and/or penalizing teams for it. Didn't they sit out Al Horford towards the end of the 2021 season to basically tank? They said it was to develop young players, but it was to straight out to tank IMO. Why didn't they get fined for that sh#t?

Why do they have to be vocal about it? And why TF should OKC care if Utah is tanking? They were tankers themselves just a few short years ago.

Put yourself in the Spurs and Silver’s shoes. What would be what you would lobby for from the Spurs POV as compensation, and if you were Silver what would be the punishment you’d dole out.

(This question is for everyone… I’ve been curious to hear the range of opinions. Keith Smith had a very fair proposal on the last Front Office Show I listened to. Kawhi’s contract voided and he is suspended for the rest of the contract. Clippers don’t get back the cap space and have to pay the remainder of the contract as a fine)

Presti is mad his handiwork is being outmaneuvered by Ainge. Presti complaining is part of the game, but secretly I bet he respects Ainge’s dark magic.

What has been previous punishments for tampering? I can't remember, has there been this kind of level of tampering before? Shouldn't the Spurs get something for them tampering with Kawhi while he was still under contract with the Spurs?

That's my point about compensation in addition to punishment. To me the Spurs need something to compensate for years of competitiveness being stolen by the Clippers.

I dunno the chance to complete the take down of the Golden Pha i mean Warriors in 2017 would have been oh so sweet. Then waxing their asses again in 18 and 19 with a chance to have gotten 2 of 3 Chips would have been oh so nice. (3 peat cmon that asking too much, we never have been LakerRef or WorriorRef'd into Chips.
Then a compete bust year and still getting Wemby. Ok that would have been the ultimate fantasy.

Future is bright. Agree in the long run we could get even more Chips. Upcoming acquisitions are going to be key.

Whatchu guys talking about the Clippers messing with Kwa's contract? Did they try to steal him before he went to Toronto?

What's your proposal?

Is there precedent for teams receiving compensation after teams tampered with a player under contract?

That's the whole news. Ballmer and LAC were paying KL while he was still under Spurs contract.

Agreed. It will never happen, but the Spurs should receive an unprotected 1st round pick from the Clippers as well as a significant amount of money.

Maybe the Spurs and the Raptors each get an unprotected 1st round pick from the Clippers and do a coin flip to see what order they get them. Kawhi’s contract voided for its remainder and he’s ineligible to play until it expires, which will basically end his career and will make his HOF status uncertain. Uncle Dennis goes to jail. Ballmer is forced to sell the franchise.

That’s my idea of school yard justice.

Oh they were trying to poach him before he got shipped to Toronto.
Wow that is dirty.

Didn't Magic Johnson also do some tampering?

I'm seriously talking about criminal charges for Uncle Dennis

tbh Silver will probably just pull a Lebron: "At the end of the day...It is just basketball...." and give small slap on wrist of Balmer :st-lol:
