NBA Kawitters Legacy taking another hit

Without Kawhi, the Spurs probably lose in round 2 in 2012, don't get past the Warriors in 2013, and definitely don't come close to sniffing a championship in 2014. Maybe even a first round out. The Duncan era peters out with a whimper and a very distant memory of a 2007 championship that never got retribution.

Be more appreciative. George Hill was a streaky player who was a scrappy defender and had Kobe's number to a large extent, but the Spurs weren't going anywhere with that 2009-2011 core which included Hill, Jefferson, Bogans, McDyess (even though I liked the guy), heavy dose of the turd towers etc.
This is why I never hated on Kawhi. Yes the way he and uncle Dennis acted in 2018 was disgusting, but that never undid the awesome 6 years Kawhi gave the Spurs. The Spurs would have went out like 2009-2011 in every playoff series from 2012-2016 without Kawhi.

Exactly. Kawhi and Green changed the culture back to defense first and fundamentals first. Those 2009-2011 teams simply got too cute and soft. They were over-reliant on Manu, TP and Duncan playing 35+ MPG and taking over games like the mid 2000s. And then it all fell apart in late 2011 to injuries. Hill and Jefferson were okay NBA players but just okay wasn't good enough around an aging Big Three. The team went from having one of the shallowest benches in the entire league in 2010 and 2011 to having one of the deepest by the late stages of the 2012 season (subtracting Hill and Jefferson and adding Leonard, Green, Jackson, Diaw, and Mills, and starting Splitter fulltime and demoting Blair).

That team should have won two championships instead of one, but better one than none.

I know just about everything from every game from every season between 1999 and May 2017. Quiz me all ya want. I have to admit, I haven't really watched jackshit in basketball since May 2017 outside of a few youtube highlights, I'm clueless other than the fact that the game has devolved into basically NBA 2k on rookie mode throughout the entire league. Mike D'Antoni and Don Nelson are probably lamenting somewhere how bad today's defenses have gotten.

That stretch of moves from the summer of 2011 to the buyout market of 2012 was top tier shit from PATFO. Replacing Hill with Kawhi, dumping RJ for Jax (Jax was still in our good graces at the time) getting BoBo and Patty from the buyout market. Green and Splitter becoming legit rotation players as well. It was a great time to be a Spurs fan after the down years from 2009 - 2011.

Shitted on KD one last time to beat the rockets :st-praise:

He still a spur at heart :st-cry:

Clippers having deals with Uncle Dennis as early as 2017 is insanity. We should be rewarded something because wtf

I can both appreciate him, AND think he and his family are all trash.

This is as bad as Donald Sterling shit, but it's Adam Silver's league and he doesn't care.
Hopefully the Spurs lawyer up and seek compensation if there's enough tampering evidence.
But I guess that's not who we are.

I'd say Ballmer financing Project Marvel would be a fair compensation, tbh.

That’s my take and it always has been. 2014 was a magical championship. We had to get revenge for 2013 and we got it. Kawhi Leonard was a big reason why. Beyond that he’s a piece of garbage I have no use for.

The latest news on this is damning. I don’t see how the hammer doesn’t come down hard on all involved now.

Obviously we are fine as a franchise now, but that tampering, illegal bullshit sent us to the basement for years.

Toronto should be pretty upset too, but I guess they also got a championship out of him so who knows.

The Raptors got him at his lowest value after he deliberately tanked it for a year then lucked their way to the only ring they'll probably ever see.

They should hang Uncle Dennis' suit in the rafters if anything tbh.

Suspend him for next year tbh but don't gift MethKC a better pick this year.

Well, when you put it like that.. 😂

Sorry to disappoint you, but OKC own their swap next season.

Next year's draft is considerably weaker. I don't really care about that as much as them lucking into a Top 5-6 pick in a loaded draft this year.

Kawhi was my fav player with Spurs after Tim Duncan.

The year after our Championship, I felt like I was watching prime Jordan out there. He was so damn focused.

Uncle dennis killed his legendary status… Had he stayed in good faith and our FO built around him, we would have been with atleast another 2-3 championships by now.

I'm still salty that his shot against Philly dropped, the Bucks choked away a 2-0 lead in the ECF, and Klay/KD's legs exploded in the finals.

Without that 2019 ring, Nephew's legacy looks completely different tbh. Just absolutely ridiculous luck for Toronto that year.

He's probably my favorite player to watch in the last 15 years and I'm not one to pearl clutch, but the level of corruption that him, Dennis, and the Clippers org have orchestrated was so gross and never before seen until maybe the last 13 months of US politics tbh :st-lol:

Yea...Balmer and the other team (Lakers) pursuing him will not even entertain those ridiculous demands from Nephew and Uncle Dennis if he did not win the 2019 title.

That 2019 title made him the greatest Raptor and also push his status to Hall of Fame bound as that title hold much weightage (like Dirk's legendary runs during 2011 playoffs).

He'll be the best player to never have his jersey retired anywhere and thus his legacy will end up as a quiz question. If some kid in 50 years asks why that is, someone will tell him well it's because he's the biggest asshole to lace em up.

Serves him right, the snake.

I know its pretty easy these days to make the basketball Hall of Fame. And he has the credentials to make it with the two finals MVPs. But for me between all of the load management, and now this controversy, it would be criminal to put this guy in the Hall of Fame. He may not give a shit. But he shouldn’t be celebrated.

man it sucks ass that KD and Klay went down that year, ffs

honestly think kawhi is heavily on the spectrum. Like very autistic, not as an insult, even though I know thats rude af to say about someone I don't know... but I'm always thinking dennis has more influence on him bc of that. Not to absolve nephew at all, I just wonder if Kawhi's Dad being around would've changed the storyline. Oh well, we got Wemby now

Dealing with other teams while he was pretending to sit out with an injury with the Spurs is unforgivable.
