Misc In Memoriam - Former 2024-2025 Spurs Player Tracker

Each passing day proves the Spurs were right in their handling of Kawhi (Toronto championship be damned).

Dude is still under investigation for cap circumvention, has missed like 40% of his games and chokes when it matters, the team is in shambles both currently and in the future based on his signing and demands, and even Chris Paul got silenced for calling them out on their incompetence.

I realize this thread is about 2024-25 Spurs who are no longer with the team... but I thought I'd share this as well.

Oh, man. To me, he was the saddest of the rejects in the Professor Pop era. Why? Because he was the guy during Pop’s “transition period” from “Give Me Some Nasty” to “Walk the Erf” as Dean of Pfizer College’s Distance Education of Citizenship and Government Social Justice. He caught hell from the “NASTY” Pop and practically nothing from the “It’s only basketball” guy. Completely the opposite of Sochan.

Lonnie Walker IV is among the most talented draftees in Spurs history, combining exceptional physical abilities with impressive basketball skills, likely placing him within the franchise’s top seven talented picks. A weird fact about him is he Played 19 playoff games and shot .371 from 3 one 13-35 shots. Since I was a bit in and out of the loop on the last board, could some of the more experienced guys fill me in?Was there a Sophie’s Choice between trading White or Lonnie at the February 2022 trade deadline? If so, what impact would Walker have had on the Celtics?

Walker, White, and Murry. The Three Guards that were and now we have Fox, Castle, and Harper. The Three Guards who ARE and Will Be.

If the PATFO hadn’t whiffed on that 2022 draft—the same year all the guards found different employment—then we’d never have landed Wemby, Castle, Harper, or made the trade for Fox. Interesting chain of events.

Sochan is the franchise-saving tank commander.

Oh well, fare thee well, Skywalker, fare thee well.

There’s a reason he’s playing in China. He was physically gifted, and could shoot the 3, but that was it. He was so bad at team defense and rotations that they started just sticking him on the primary scorers so that he didn’t have to rotate, and no one would be left unguarded. He also was a bad finisher while here, despite his physical gifts, too timid. Didn’t like contact, couldn’t pass.

Several other teams kicked the tires, and noped.

Isreal and in Euroleague... but close enough I guess.

Lonnie was also on the 76ers roster in 2025, coming off the bench and averaging 12 points in 24 minutes.

Averaging double digits over an NBA career while NEVER being starter a doesn’t mean much by the high standards of Spurs message board commenters. I'm sure people will say, "See, he was never an NBA-level player."

He was also instrumental in helping the Lakers close out the defending champion Warriors in the second round of the 2023 Playoffs.

And yet,no one wants to sign him as anything other than roster depth. No one re-signs him.

It’s the start of the year, and who knows where Lonnie will end up by year’s end. Do we really need to have the career talk? Some careers are long, some are short. How far of a field goal do you expect a player to make here, or are we just going to keep moving the goalpost forever? If you still believe he isn’t and never was whatever you define as “an NBA-level player,” then stick to that and stop dancing around it. Stand on business 10 toes down and say it again. The hate some commentators have for someone they’ve never even met runs deep.
A guy can’t post a fair but kind in memoriam blurb without the usual suspects coming out of the woodwork with all the feelings in the face of overwhelming facts.

He’s not an NBA level player, and for all the reasons I observed. No one keeps him. No one re-signs him after his initial contract. I was a big proponent after he was drafted, but by the end of year2, I knew he wouldn’t be here past year 3 or 4. He just wasn’t making progress. It’s not that he couldn’t finish through contact, it’s that he avoided it altogether.

Is that enough ten toes for you?
