Kind of the elephant in the room. We know the defense will improve substantially when Wemby returns, but what happens to the offense tbh? As good as he is, the team has tended to stand around while Wemby plays at being KD too often before he went down. Spurs have been a top 5 offense with Wemby out by playing a guard-centric offense with much-improved three point shooting. Does Wemby take on a more complimentary role on offense or does the team need to readjust to a Wemby-centric offense?

Trade Wemby tbh. This team is better without him. Castle and harper is the future of this team.

IMO Wemby expends most of his energy on Defense. On offense, he can be a legit lob threat on P&Rs and hang out at the arc to open the paint up even more for our seemingly unstoppable guard trio.

Less Barnes seems reasonable, less centerless lineups. But yeah castle seems to be comfortable in this clusterfuck offense and i don't find it in me to ask him to change it, just let him cook and get a rebound.

Wemby need to cook every mismatch tbh. He have to recall his trainings with Dream, KG and the shaolin monks

This is the next thing Mitch has to figure out. Slot in the Wemby D, but keep up the drive heavy high-octane offense. If he can somehow merge the 2 styles, we will be better than ever.

I also think he has to stagger Wemby and Fox more. He used sub out both at the same time, probably, so they have more minutes to gel with each other, but he has to find minutes for the Fox/Vassell/Champ/Barnes/Kornet line up.

It's probably better to stagger guard minutes so as to try to maintain constant 2 out of 3 pressure on the floor throughout, but boy do I want to see how good the Spurs can be with Wemby on the floor alongside Fox/Castle/Harper. Start these guys and then churn through Barnes/Champ/Vassell and see if anyone brought a heater to the game.

I’ve believed for some time that Wemby’s offense can be best unlocked as an off ball finisher. He can average 25 easy in that role and increase efficiency. Our guards have proven that they can be the engine of a top tier offense. Wemby is not the best on-ball creator. He’s not even second best. He’s behind all of the guards in that regard.

The only question to me is how much we play Wemby at Center vs forward. The guards have really benefited from the great screens Kornet provides. That’s one of the few weaknesses in Wemby’s game. I’d be tempted to play Kornet and Wemby together more, perhaps moving Vassell to the bench.

We've been running without Wemby...time to run with Wemby! We have a 7'5" guard, take full advantage! 3-headed monster drive to the paint, rim run with Wemby. This is the dream we've all been waiting for.

Continue the beautiful game, tbh. Wemby will sign on.

And yes, looks like Spurs can run with any team.

The lineup combos and possibilities with Wemby will be a coach's wet dream. OKC, or any team, can't triple him anymore with the guard play we have. The 2-big 2nd and 4th qtr Wemby/Kornet minutes should be pretty impactful. The variety of offensive options has really grown in this Wemby-less stretch. Pretty enviable position for a team that was so lost much of last season. Teams will be having to adjust to us which is a nice flip of the script of the last several seasons.

Yes this is the dream and needs to be realized. The Spurs have a great offense when it's the guards attacking and causing havoc not so much when the ball is in Wemby's hands. He's not there yet and that's ok.

Want to see 5, 1, 2, 4, 7 finishing close games. Save their minutes for that! Great defense and rebounding, hope for great attacking offense.

Imagine if he wore a Kornet jersey on offense and a Wemby jersey on defense.

Wemby isn't going to be restricted to a lob threat. He's a top 10 player in the league. Everyone else will have to adjust to him.

The beauty is that with fox, harper and castle we now have 3 guys who can cut, slash and get to the rim at will.

Add in Fox being able to hit the 3 ball and Barnes being lights out. The offense opens up.

Doubling Wemby will be hard. Guarding him 1 on 1 is almost impossible.

The possibilities are really exciting.

Does the offense change when Wemby returns?

This team doesn’t need Wemby to be a 25 point scorer and force feed him as the initiator/creator. Have him play off Castle, Fox, Harper in pick and roll, pick and pop, off the ball in the dunker spot, mix in some high post and low block isos sure but don’t over do it. Wemby averaging 20 a game and fitting in on offense while dominating on defense is best for the team.

Hard to make a claim that him coming back is any kind of problem. But what’s happened all of a sudden is that the spurs are officially not building a team around Wemby and instead will need to ask him to exist within the team. Up until this last stretch that was the premise right? That you start with the big guy and fill in parts? Now we have a team based on pace and high involvement from every guy out there and the playmaking center will have to figure out how he fits.

It’s not bad that this is how it’s playing out. But this definitely isn’t the Wemby experience that’s been outlined for a few years.

TBH it actually seems trajectory-altering for his career that he’s not supposed to be jokic. For better or worse.

To me it depends on which Wemby returns, if it was the We.by of right before the injury (living on perimeter shooting threes) the offense n se will take a dip in efficiency HOWEVER IF we get first game of the season against the Mavs Wemby, playing the high and low post, the Spurs will shock the world tomorrow night with a convincing W.
