This may be true, but East teams playing East teams more because that's how it goes does not equal West teams playing each other either.

This year, yes, though you would have to take the unbalanced schedule into account.
It isn't just number of teams either. If a 1-16 playoff started today, 4 of the top 5 teams would be from the West and 5 of the bottom 6 from the East.
Nearly every year there are West teams knocked out in the first round that likely would have advanced in a 1-16 format, and East teams in the second round that likely would have lost in the first round in 1-16.

Even worse is when one conference is trash except for one really good team while the other has all the other great teams. Think 1987 where an injured McHale has to run himself into the ground for the Celtics to survive Jordan in the first round, a very good 50-32 Milwaukee team in the second, and then an extremely physical 52-30 Pistons team with some of the nastiest bigman depth we have ever seen who goes onto the Finals the next three years. Meanwhile in the WCF the Lakers get a 39-43 Sonics team with a worse record than the Bulls (40-42) that the Celtics had to play in the first round. In the second round the Lakers got a 42-40 Warriors team. In the first round a 37-45 win Denver team. I mean WTF you swap conferences and you don't even have to play McHale until the Finals. Lakers get an easy 11-1 run through the west while the Celtics have to play two 4-3 series vs Milwaukee and Detroit after getting the sweep over Chicago. So 11-6, McHale has to drag himself through 5 more games to get to the Finals while the Lakers cakewalk to the Finals. 1987 is the most egregious example but the balance of power was widely out of whack the entire decade.

Man I been a Spurs fan since people wore bags on their heads in the upper deck of Hemisfair. The good old Fast Breaking Siesta.
Always thought Giannis was a very slick dirty player, especially the Kyrie injury in their championship year. But after all this time I didn’t know Giannis was the reason for Porzingis ACL injury when he was taking off as a player.

True. I think the pudding proof would be if they played as even a schedule as could be made. The cream would rise to the top if the East actually had a balanced schedule with the West.
Yes, it has always come down to the East teams playing 4 times against East teams. You can't get proper balance if the East is weaker, then they get to pad wins due to more games against other EC teams.
That's why I've never been a proponent of the 1-16 format. They have to have all teams play a similar amount of games against each other (not sure if this can be achieved with 3 games against each team, but even if it can, then that makes it unfair as one team would get two games on their homecourt - I can't think of a way to make it work/be even amongst all the teams).

So, I saw that the Bulls of all teams shot up in the betting markets as a Giannis destination, but I've not seen any news or rumors really backing this up... kind of odd, could just be some speculators manipulating the markets... this is why I stay away from shit like this

I have a hard time seeing them trading RJ and 2 picks for McDaniel.
I'd say they'd prefer to use someone besides us, but if they can't find a third team that Milwaukee prefers assets from that they'd still use us because they want to pair Ant and Giannis so badly.

On the other hand, we seem to have a good relationship with the MIN front office. We did the Dillingham trade with them, but also the 33rd pick of the 2023 draft (Leonard Miller) for a 2026 SRP (Utah's) and a 2028 SRP (MIN's).
MIN probably will do whatever is the best way to help them get what they want. If we can offer the most attractive option for MIL, then perhaps we can get in the mix. Seems like a longshot though and I can't see the Spurs super interested in paying the price for McDaniels.
But here is an idea bound to trigger people that costs us zero draft picks and even nets us a far out swap...

I'm fine with trading Castle, but i'm not sure McDaniels is a big enough fish to pull the trigger on. That said, it would certainly balance the roster.

It is not a that great of package, but what better deal Bucks could realistically get at the deadline or the offseason? There is simply no godfather offer for him. He is little too old and too injury-prone to generate a massive haul. Unless it's Giannis-Banchero swap (few rumblings about that scenario) in which you settle for a couple of mediocre picks but talk yourself into a budding young star with former #1 pedigree, I don't see any purported trade packages beating the rumored Miami's offer especially with OKC/HOU/SA and even Blazers (Avdija+ MIL's own swapped picks) lack of/tepid interest..

That's interesting because I think the Spurs are firmly in or right on the edge of "overpay for player that could put you over the hump" that every championship level team has to eventually make to seriously compete for a championship. I also think McDaniels would easily be that player and really fits to how we want to play. Or should want to play you never know with Mitch

Celtics did it for White and Jrue...
Knicks did it for Bridges...made the CF...
Depending on how you feel about the player and contract Houston is doing it right now for KD...
Really the only maybe championship level teams that haven't done it are Detroit and San Antonio...but history has shown you don't win a chip without the "paid to much for this player but in this very specific circumstance he makes you a real championship contender" player. Spurs aren't winning anything of note without a real power forward. We don't have one right now and who knows how long it takes Carter Bryant to be one...if it ever happens.

With the less favorable of NOP' 2026 and their own in play in a strong draft, Bucks might as well rip the band aid and trade him at deadline to go full tank mode (Giannis says he won't sit when he heals from calf issue; he's gonna ruin it for them). I don't see the offers significantly improving in the offseason short something like Banchero becoming available if/when Magic panic after the playoffs.
