i think the spurs will make more use out of SRPs out of necessity going forward. we are only getting 1 pick per year now, and theyre likely not going to have any lotto picks in the foreseeable future. we're also done having cap space. we no longer have guaranteed contracts going forward with non-performers like we previously had with branham/cissoko, etcMIL should ask for both. However, this would have to be an offseason thing, wouldn't it? Same boat as Paolo, they are poison pilled because their extensions haven't kicked in.
But should the Thunder do that? Of course not. The Thunder have a good chance of setting the NBA record for wins this year. They are defending champs with a young core. They have high picks still incoming... and don't forget they have Sorber who will eventually add depth. Will Topic recover from ball cancer? If he does... there is more high level depth. They have guys like Queso who they should probably S&T this summer or next to reload the pick pantry. Same with Jaylin Williams, but he's cost controlled for awhile.
Wiggins, Joe and Ajay are other guys who they can and should probably flip to refill the pick pantry at some point as well once they near the end of their deals.
They just got a free gift of Jalen Williams missing enough games to lock him into the 25% max instead of the 30% max. Caruso is on a pretty manageable extension... iHart they should probably flip this summer while they can, and it will be easy to do if Sorber's recovery is on track.
It cannot be overstated how either by luck, genius or a combination of both, Sam Presti has set this team up for sustained success as well as imaginable in this era of Cap Economics.
Some folks were talking about how they'd be forced to shed talent, but they really aren't. They are built around 3 guys, and they have perfectly set things up to continually reload around them. And they have used SRPs to actually add real players, and not just punt them into outer space. Hopefully Wright is paying attention on that front.
Dammit its so frustrating![]()
assuming HB is re-signed/extended, we still will have Sochan, Olynyk, Waters, McLaughlin, Biyombo's roster spots to fill with nothing more then MLE/BAE. and once wemby gets extended, im not even sure we'll be in position to use the full MLE much longer as well.
plus if we are reaching a point where we have a relatively stable 9-10 man rotation, then it makes those bottom 5 spots a lot more flexible than having it tied up with former draft picks that you kind of just cant give up on yet
