Forget the Phoenix loss and all the frustrating injuries for a second. This is a thread to simply show your appreciation for Spurs players past and present. Now that we have more exciting players like Wemby, Fox, Castle, and Harper, my top 10 might change from where it was back then.

Top 10 favorite Spurs (not really in order)

Tim Duncan
Manu Ginobili
Victor Wembanyama
Danny Green
Tony Parker
Stephon Castle
Boris Diaw
Bruce Bowen
Robert Horry
David Robinson

Honorable mentions: D-White, Patty Mills, Brent Barry, Nephew (before his antics)

Manu
Tony
Sean Elliott
Timmy
D-Rob
Iceman: Never saw him play but I met him on a few occasions and was really cool
Bobo
Beno
Mario Ellie
Splitter

Tim
Manu
Tony
The 89-90 starting lineup: (DRob, TC, Sean, Willie, Rod)
Wemby
Charles Bassey

I'll put my list in order:
  1. Tim Duncan
  2. David Robinson
  3. George Gervin
  4. Victor Wembanyama
  5. Manu Ginobili
  6. Tony Parker
  7. Bruce Bowen
  8. Alvin Robertson
  9. Avery Johnson
  10. Danny Green
Apologies to Sean and Boris.

In order:
Robinson
Manu
Ninja
Timmy
Ice ice baby
A-train
verde
Tony
Mitchell
Moore

Honourable mentions:
Wemby - too early. Ask em again in five years and I’m sure he will shoot up to top 5 (sorry Ice)
Cummings - would’ve been great if he didn’t play that pick up game even though he was already in the downward slope of his career.
Chuck person - fun player to watch, I think he broke his back because the seat broke on a plane ride or something like that
Silas was a bit before my time. Would’ve loved watching him play.
Diaw - stint too short
Rose and keldon - love their heart.

P.s. thanks for this thread. Still angry about how terrible the game went. But then again. Regular season

Dailey Ellis for those couple of years was fun too. Loved his fast break pull up

Duncan
Robinson
Gervin
Ginobili
Parker
LaMarcus ( im the only one so far. Sue me, he's a nice guy, chose us, plus we got so close to winning in 2016 and 2017 with him before we got zaza'd, kawhied, uncle dennised and had our roster fucked up all at once)
Bruce
Victor
Elliot
Richard Jefferson (kidding)

No hate towards lamarcus or derozan. Appreciated them but those were years I wanted to forget.

Same applies to nique.

And apologies for the lil general but ….. yeah … loved the heart and spirit but I still felt he was way too limited and the spurs would’ve been way better with rod Strickland instead.

1- Duncan (The Greatest Franchise Player of All Time)
2- Ginobili (most exciting, idiosyncratic Spur ever and top-notch character)
3- D-Rob (didn't watch his prime, but he is a foundational franchise piece)
4- Wemby (Unicorn and true generational talent. Only health will prevent him from getting near Duncan's rarefied place)
5- Parker (an All-time underrated PG, his flaws notwithstanding)
6- Bowen (a fixture of the knock-down, drag-out, "Defense wins Championships" era of the mid-2000s)
7- D. Green (top 5 role player, wing defender of the 2010s)
8- Sean Elliott (in Spurs lore..a long enough tenure to merit a spot in Top 10)
9- Diaw (only Scola has a bigger what-if Spur career. Should have come earlier. We solved Miami & OKC in no small part thanks to him. A key cog in the Beautiful Game team)
10- Castle (yes, he is already here. Such a fierce competitor with vet poise at only 21. Looking like Wemby's rightful sidekick until we see more from Harper)

Will limit it to players I watched -

1. Manu (the most exciting athlete this side of Lionel Messi for me)
2. Tim Duncan (an inspiration for folks across professions on how to handle life and passions in the pursuit of excellence)
3. Victor Wembanyama (a story being written).
4. Patty Mills (an amazing story of a Torres Islander who became the ultimate teammate in the Spurs squad).
5. Boris Diaw (at his best, a virtuoso with the ball and an exciting watch). He embodied the Beautiful Spurs of the 2014, the most aesthetically pleasing championship team IMO
6. Tony Parker (underrated by me and many Spurs fans. Carried the team in the fag end of Duncan's career. Was a core member of the four championship squads.)
7. Fab Oberto (Quintessential role player. A winner).
8. Antonio McDyess (played in just a season and deserved more. Gelled well with Timmy and the rest of the squad.)
9. Brent Barry (limited player but combined well with Manu to form a passing /shooting combo).
10 tie. Danny Green (collateral damage in the Nephew trade. Spurs' best 3 and D player)
10 tie Derrick White (high IQ role player who just needed a better squad around him).

HM - 11. Jakob Poeltl - I was a huge fan of the Turtle. Again like White ..played in weak squads whereas he would have been an ideal roleplayer.
12. Tiago Splitter - injuries and some weird coaching choices limited his Spurs tenure but he was as productive and useful as any Spur in the Beautiful Game era.
13. Nephew before he became the Nephew. Back stabbed his way out of a really promising tenure.

I would not consider current players (way to soon and their history is far from being over) but also players I did not see live because too young for that, difficult to have a favorite based on highlights or games here and there tbh...

Tim
David
Tony
Manu
Bruce
Boris
Tiago
Sean
Green

and yes Matt freaking Bonner as my last pick... love the guy, he became a mascott and a meme but also the topic of infinite ST debate.

and yeah not even in my top 50 fuck you Nephew

Timmy
Manu
Tony
Wemby
The Admiral
Sean Elliott
Willie Anderson
Bruce Bowen
Avery Johnson
Terry Cummings

- I’m not old enough to have watched Gervin.
- Kawhi is a love/hate situation but I can’t ever forgive while he’s still in the league
- Danny Green almost made my list
- I suspect Castle and/or Harper will make this list at some point if they can stay healthy and develop as expected

Gervin (No Gervin No Spurs in the NBA, most valuable Spur's player because of that, also the most exciting offensive scorer)
Wemby (Never seen a player of his height with his offensive ability, will be on top of this list if he stays healthy)
Duncan (Best player to date, not the most exciting to watch)
Robinson
Harper (I already have him high by what I've seen, going to be special)
Castle
Keenon (Most under rated Spur)
Parker (was the engine to the championship years)
Manu (over rated)
Silas (was great before the knee injury but his run was too short)

It's not a list on who the best are/were but who I like/liked watching play and upside potential
I've seen the Spurs from the beginning in 1973 so their entire history.
Leonard's ugly exit drops his ranking, Bowen's game was overall dirty/ugly

Guess I'm the only one who loved watching Alvin play. Was about the hardest bastard in the league in an era full of nasty motherfuckers, such a physical defender who you could tell people hated playing against. Plus his hands were so quick and he was a terror attacking the basket. It's awesome seeing Steph now showing a lot of the same qualities I loved in Alvin.

Tim
Manu
TP
David
Sean
Derrick White
Boris
Patty
Wemby
Danny Green

Splitter/Bowen/Hill/Oberto would probably be the next three just outside the top 10
