To me, a reasonable outcome, when all is said and done, is that of the Spurs cementing themselves as the clear third greatest franchise in NBA history behind the Celtics & Lakers.

I am wary of projecting dynasties, and being cognizant of the Wemby’s health variable, coming out of this with 2 titles (preferably back-to-back) would just do it.

Spurs (W/Finals) (5-1) are 5th behind Celtics (18-5), Lakers (17-15), Philadelphia/San Francisco/Golden State Warriors (7-5), and Bulls (6-0) in Championships won, but they have been way more relevant across eras than the latter two franchises despite being a late comer to the NBA. The numbers bear this fact out.

NBA teams with most Conference Finals appearances:

1- Celtics (24)

2- Lakers (23)

3- Spurs (14)

NBA teams with most 50-win seasons:

1- Celtics (37)

2- Lakers (34)

3- Spurs (27)

NBA teams with most 60- win seasons:

1- Celtics (15)

2- Lakers (11)

3- Spurs (7)

All is missing is a couple more rings, tbh.

I'm starting to think that adding a young, athletic 3rd string center would give us an insane dynamic. I have no idea where this player would come from, but a defensive, rim-runner would make lineups pretty difficult. Sorber would've been nice for that. This draft/offseason will tell us a lot about the team construction moving into our new golden age. As for expectations? "Pure and ethical basketball...."and wins, lots of wins.

Continuity like the old days just isn’t possible anymore which sucks for dynasty odds. If this team truly is legit as they’ve looked recently, then I don’t think a couple championships is out of this world. Anything more than that would be amazing.

I'm keeping my eye on 7'3" Spaniard Aday Mara, C Michigan (21 years old). Still ranked 42 on Tankathon, but they have not updated on 19 days. Imagine a bigger version of Kornet.

7'99" Wemby, 7'3 Mara, and 7'2 Luke would Dwarf every front court in the NBA, while we still have best backcourt and bench in league.

Luckily for the Spurs the aprons aren't likely to be a concern until 2029-30 when Harper will be due an extension, but that's also the last year of the CBA. So maybe we get these aprons wiped away in 2030 and there is no need to make a really difficult decision on only being able to keep two of Fox / Castle / Harper. Or the owners or players could opt out of the CBA after the 2028-29 season. OKC however is probably going to lose two of Dort / Cason Wallace / Hartenstein, though Williams and Holmgren not hitting the milestones for the 30% extensions will help them make up for paying SGA the 35% max.

Winning a championship is extremely hard. If we can manage just one I'll be more than happy.
Which is why i want us to get one out of the way early so everything else becomes gravy. That Lebron wait (2003-12) was so nerve-wracking and full of doubts and disappointments along the way.

Hannes Steinbach 100%

In his first run in Cleveland LeBron never had a single teammate at the level of any of Fox / Castle / Harper. If he did the league would have been absolutely fucked. I'm still in shock Bron led a team starting Delonte West, Anderson Varejao, and the corpse of Ben Wallace's career to 66 wins in a very tough east.

Extremely important that Spurs org addresses the cheapshots already coming Wembys way from such amoral cowards as Kerr / Mouthbreather and now Klingon Dort and his apparant spineless coach.

Seriously, Wemby is getting potential career altering shots taken at him. Do something! If the corrupt NBA continues to enable the cowards, at least you know you tired.

That is what is stopping me from putting 5+ as a Wemby Era goal.

"Most" should only be taken as since Spurs entered the NBA.
The Spurs doing it without RefAide and Rigged Trades makes their #1 status all the more impressive.

Timmy Duncan was that good.
Indeed.

And if we look at things that way, the Ring Count is:

Lakers - 11
Bulls - 6
Spurs - 5
Celtics - 5
Warriors - 4

And until the last few years we had the highest winning % of all time, we've only recently fallen behind the Celtics... but I'm confident we will catch them shortly.

Celtics - .596
Spurs - .594
Lakers - .592
Big drop off...
Thunder - .543

And until these recent dark ages, we had a winning record against everything other franchise in the NBA. Currently we only have a losing record against the Lakers (95-99) but I feel like we'll get that back within the next 3 years. That is a stat that I think we should take a lot of pride in.

To the OP... I think there is no question we are already amongst the Top 3 Franchise in League History.

• Steinbach is my guy in the upcoming draft. Not sure we'll be selecting high enough to have a shot at him either though as I think he will end up going top-10 based on the season he's having. He's be a seamless fit on this team though. 6'11 elite rebounder (statistically the best in the draft) while being a highly skilled offensive player.

• Chris Cenac Jr. is another 6'11 fluid C who shows flashes of being a talented offensive player, although shoots too many jumpers for my liking. Not much back-to-the basket game yet and usually just hovers around the 3PT line or shoots middies. But he's clearly talented and is projected to be in the late lottery so might be in our range.

• Aday Mara is another option, as an above poster mentioned. 7'3 and highly skilled. His slower feet worry me bit though.

• Patrick Ngongba is another big, strong Center prospect who might be entering the draft. He's not uber athletic either, and his slower feet worry me a bit too. But he's a bruiser with a grown man's body already at 6'11 250 lbs. Could help us against physical teams like the Knicks and t-pups. Good shot-blocker and a surprisingly good passer too.

Any 4 of those guys would be a welcomed addition to this roster and a huge upgrade over Biyombo.

Trying to be realistic here and not live in some fairy tail, winning a ring is hard, let alone multiple. I'd say we'll be lucky if we win 2 rings in the Wemby era. You have to be mindful, Wemby in Year 3 is probably 30% into his career. I don't think we win it this year but next year I can see the organization going all in, whatever that may be. I'm the biggest supporter of Wemby and the franchise but to sit there and say Wemby will have a 12-15 year career is absurd. He's nowhere close to 7'2, might be 7'5 at the least so be mindful.

GO SPURS GO!

I would say just to be a contender every year like the Spurs were during the Duncan era. I feel if Victor remains healthy that it's doable for the Spurs to be an elite team every year. Now for them to have the same success as they did during the Duncan era of winning 5 titles will be very difficult. You have to have some luck involved to win that many titles. I think the Spurs if they remain healthy will win at least 1 with Victor but to win multiple titles I think in this current league is very hard.

Five championships, equaling Duncan. More heartbreaking playoff defeats than championships, similar to the Duncan era, but the times we do win it all will be euphoric, like 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. The next championship will feel most similar to 1999, since it's a completely new team, new star, new coach, new era compared to the first five.

I did not, don't, nor ever will recognize the Kings 2002 win as a Laker win. The Lakers were eliminated.

I count that one but I don't count whatever exhibition covid Disneyworld bubble cup in 2020 was.

realistically I'm still salty about 2002, even in 2000 the Blazers got hosed in the 4th quarter by the refs, but it is what it is. The Lakers were top 3 teams in the NBA consistently every year from 2000 to 2002, they weren't close to that in 2020.

Given the general assumption of overall good health (which goes for every NBA team), I'd like to think Wemby and this core can get two titles.

As others have stated, winning just one is very hard. It takes a lot of talent, great coaching, and usually a little luck when it comes to matchups, injuries, and general bounces of the ball.

Also, with the new changes to the cap, it's harder than ever to keep a core together for an extended run. I also don't expect Wemby to make it 19 years like Timmy did.

We should never take for granted how truly blessed we were to get 15+ years of contending with the likes of Timmy, Tony, and Manu.

Seriously tho if we have not given up at victor has a shot to be the goat, he will need at least 4 rings, preferably 5 or 6. So better start already this year

with the aprons it is going to be a lot harder for teams to win multiple titles unless players are willing to sacrifice part of their salary to keep the team together.

And I believe that this is what victor has already hinted
