What are you playing right now?

I figured you'd have a powerful PC as it is seeing how you were and are always on top of the latest and greatest in tech. That's rad!

Yeah, I was wondering about their VR set up as well. I'm very interested in VR but the Oculus I tried gave me vertigo but I've been eyeballing PS's PS5VR2 for a while now. I might hold off and get the SteamVR because I'm finally getting into PC gaming.
I get too sick in VR to make it worth paying for the hardware, but I'm kind of tempted to get a Quest 3 from a Rent A Center kind of place for a week just to play Half Life Alyx lol.

You can rent VR equipment? Rad! Good plan bro!

It's not top of the line but very respectable. AMD Ryzen 7700 CPU with 64gb of RAM and a 7900xt 20gb gpu. More than handles any game I can throw at it.

VR is pretty weird and definitely something that's person-to-person. There are also some apps that are really harsh to begin with. It takes time to get "VR legs" just like it does to get sea legs -- you're likely going to be sick to your stomach until your body recalibrates. I think the Steam Frame will be better in that regard as they're shooting for extremely low latency (so your head matches real life positioning) as well as foveated rendering (the eye tracking allows it to only render what's in front of you at high resolution which can increase performance massively).

IMO the best uses for VR are currently simulators like racing/flying/space. They add an insane amount of immersion and I've been slowly piecing together a respectable sim rig for road/rally racing. It's crazy what you can build for a little bit of cash today.

Nice rig!

Yep, simulation of both flying and driving is what I'm after when it comes to VR. I too would love an actual simulator and VR. What do you mean by "It's crazy what you can build...", piece by piece or diy with 3d printing and servos?

Nah, just by piecing together what's out there. I have two transcuders attached to my seat, and they're connected to my PC through simhub. Anytime I hit a bump or my tires lose traction, the speakers vibrate throughout the seat and simulate the actual vibration. Hit a rumble strip and your entire body vibrates from it, which is insane as the effects pair perfectly with the force feedback through the wheel. At some point I might hook up a couple of case fans -- connect them to simhub and they will increase airflow as you accelerate, imitating wind as you speed up. The sim community is just nuts with how much you can do to add immersion to a rig, and it's pretty cheap too. The transcuders and sound card were about $40 total and make the entire setup feel alive, like a car you're actually driving through space.

Put about 20 hours into Ghost of Yotei so far. Really enjoying my playthrough. It's not much different than the OG gameplay wise but I like this story better. Atsu is a more compelling character than Jin Sakai imo

Impressive! That sounds rad, bud.

Good you got that much RAM before this apocalypse. I grabbed 32GB when it was dirt cheap two years ago and glad as hell I did now. Fucking OpenAI. Crucial just completely exited the commercial RAM and SSD market. Then Nvidia's not bundling RAM with their GeForce chips any more so with AIBs having to source VRAM without the volume discounts Nvidia gets you can bet RTX gaming cards are going to increase in price significantly.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is stunning with a half decent gpu. Game is pretty cpu bound but still looks great at 30-40 fps so you can crank details on it. I never play it seriously though, just do stupid shit like see if I can fly a 747 under the Golden Gate or kamikaze into the crater of Mt Fuji lol. Basically play it like the GTA flying missions whenever I feel like buying Game Pass. Still haven't managed to not kill everyone on board trying to land at some of those crazy airports in the Himalayas.

Finally playing Spiderman Miles Morales five years after buying it. Was showing it to my 7yo nephew since he loves Spiderman to see if I should get him the game for Christmas and he went nuts over it, but he got 1/4 though the game lol. So might just let him beat it at my house and buy him Spiderman 2 instead. Watching him play it convinced me to play it for myself haha.

A friend of mine JUST got a PC and 1 week later it jumped $450 in price. He got a beast of a rig too.

I'm super happy with mine. Does everything I want. can't wait for the Steam Frame.

I don't know that I have a GOTY this year. Several candidates. I need to play through Clair Obscur but it takes ages to get that game started and I haven't had the time.

Probably had the most fun playing No Man's Sky and Automobilista 2. Going to start playing Star Citizen now that it finally looks a little fleshed out.

Just received my Odin 3 Max. Ultra's got backed up a month because of sourcing 24gb ram.

Still setting it up. Not sure how well switch will run but that's my go to for pirating new games. Can't lie though, i'll never get tired of COD mobile. All the classic maps and it's a cheat code being able to use joystick and buttons yet point to aim.

I'm focusing on 2d or 2.5d platformer's on this handheld. Wii games are just amazing upscaled to 1080p. If New Super Mario Bros dropped rn it would be GOTY.

You talking New Super Mario Bros Wii or New Super Mario Bros on DS? Both are top notch, but if you haven't played it yet Super Mario Wonder is IMO the best 2D Mario since Super Mario World on SNES. Definitely wouldn't bother emulating Switch though when you can buy Erista Switch that can be softmodded or Switch OLED that you can pay someone to hardmod or do it yourself if your soldering skills are elite (the modchip is supposed to be really difficult to install on the Switch OLED and is way beyond my skills). Super Mario Maker 2 on Switch is also outstanding even just counting the built in levels.

Have you played Muramasa The Demon Blade? That's IMO the best 2D platformer on Wii, just amazing art and colors. Plus there is a 4k mod for it on Dolphin, though I forget the details on setting it up since I haven't played it in years. But it looked way better on my 28" 4k IPS panel in Dolphin than even playing natively on my OLED Vita.

Don't know if you have heard and these aren't 2D games, but there are reverse engineered ports of Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask out now. Pretty sure they have been ported to Android as they're seemingly on everything. Just awesome playing Ocarina of Time at 60 fps instead of the 20 fps the N64 could run it at, though if you have a high refresh rate monitor I think you can run it up to 256 fps, at least on the PC port. The reverse engineered Ocarina of Time project is called the Ship of Harkinian. It's way better than the official 3DS port Nintendo did. I forget what the others are called. Supposedly Twilight Princess is close to getting reverse engineered too.

Huh, thought Clair Obscur was supposed to be a short RPG, like 30-35 hours. Maybe I heard wrong. I'm gonna jump on it soon but still playing through Spiderman Miles Morales, which looks awesome at 4k with all the snow effects maxed out and RT turned on. Except the RT shadows: those look like ass since shadows for the trees stop swaying in the wind when that's turned on.

I'll check some of those out. I have an original Odin and ran into limitations on what I emulated. I have a steam deck but it's cumbersome and a pain to go back and forth between steam and desktop mode to set up. I rarely play anything more than 15 minutes at a crack. At my age the fun is setting things up etc. My oldest is 17 and he is showing interest in setting it up also. It's basically glorified problem solving puzzles. You run into a problem and something isn't working like it's supposed to, figure it out. I'd much rather mess with emulation or soldering a switch than actually just buying one even if it wasn't about the money.

Soldering a modchip on an OLED Switch requires a microscope and is supposed to be really hard unless you're great at microsoldering, as the previous Mariko Switches were pretty easy to solder a chip onto which along with early Eristas being soft moddable made the Switch piracy scene huge.

I decided to circle back to Arc Raiders and give it another shot and so far I feel like it was a good decision. Players I've encountered lately have been way less hostile

I think it's short I just can't get invested in it too much. It takes a while to get your bearings and then I have to learn the battle system which takes time.

Gotta say, I picked up a pair of Rayneo Air 3S glasses for my Steam Deck and it is an unbelievable experience with them. Takes away the two biggest negatives of the Deck, which is a small screen (esp immersion damaging in big open world games where the spectacle is important) and weight of the device (you can rest it on your lap).

My god. It's a fundamentally altering experience. Esp when I'm at home and can stream the full graphical fidelity from my desktop.
