Player The restricted-age video store section of Dylan Harper

We should lock Mitch in a video room to replay the Harper minutes tonight over and over to understand his impact, not just on himself, but what it allows Castle to do
Finally, finally got minutes at the end when the game was up for grabs. No idea why Mitch always plays him barely over 20 minutes per game. For once, I liked the way the three guards were rotated and used throughout the game. Dylan should be in those end of game lineups IMO.

Harper is going to be the best PG in the NBA soon and people are debating if it was the right pick? What the actual fuck? The kid hit the rookie wall, struggled for a bit, and is clearly already coming out of it in the past week plus.

I don't know man, maybe I"m just old now, but coming here to read stupid takes is just not it. You don't have to be positive all the time but you also don't need to be the edgelord version of reddit. Just obviously stupid takes JFC.

smh

The most uplifting thing about Harper's closeout performance last night was his return to being the "X Factor" for the Spurs. He won us multiple games at the start of the season by doing this X Factor bit, bringing a much-needed offensive change of pace in late games, pressuring the rim with shifty layups, just warping the defense with his drives. He lost his mojo for a bit, but was back on track against Houston.

Not only will he earn minutes this way, it's an invaluable skill for playoff matchups. Him going at the rim relentlessly, with Castle and Wemby behind him to clean up any misses...... :st-dramaqueen:

I forgot to say in my last post, glad he closed out the game, BUT he is still not getting enough minutes IMO. Like Guru said, that needs to go up to 30 minutes.

Did I see that someone posted that daddy Ron was at this game? If so, Dylan broke the curse! Such a joy to see him look like himself again. I'm really impressed with his defense. He is a positive on both sides of the ball in a lot of games, that really impacts winning. And, yes, give him more minutes, NOW!

25 mpg should be his floor tbh. This kid has shown too many flashes already to have him sitting on the bench for over half of the game. Obviously there are things he needs to work on (his 3-point shot has been dreadful lately), but getting him plenty of developmental minutes + having him get used to playing alongside Wemby should be one of the main focal points during the regular season.

If/when we get to the playoffs and he seems a little shook, then sure, I can live with him being closer to 18-20 mpg...but in the regular season we should be giving him as many opportunities as realistically possible.

One of the more exciting developments is his defense. We mostly knew he'd be an elite driver/finisher at the rim, and we knew he had the tools to be a solid defender. But he's really impressed me so far on that end of the ball which bodes well considering he's still such a young player in his rookie season.

Harper should be handling PG duties in crucial possessions imo. I love Castle, but I think Castle is more an off-ball, SG who can attack the rim but not necessarily has to create for others. Castle has TO’s tendencies with his decisions, compared to Harper who knows better to orchestrate offense. I think when they go small, they can play Fox/Harper/Vassell/Castle/Wemby

I love harper, but i don't really see the manu resemblance at all
Maybe because Harper can read plays as well as Manu, very high IQ. Both big guys who can initiate and create for others, while able to attack the rim at will, fearless and can bully his defender.

But PG-Wise, Harper is potentially in the same conversation with the greatest- CP3, Kidd, Magic. Dylan’s feel for the game is awesome. He’s a young general out there. If not for Fox and Castle, Harper should be starting PG from day 1 and could very well putting up numbers across to be in the ROY discussion imo

I think I am going to have to see plenty more nutmeg assists before i am ready to see a resemblance.

Glad he's getting his mojo back, is adjusting back to a league that adjusted to him. Rockets have no shotblockers, so that helped, so continuing this against stouter interior defenses will help. He was also eating good on Reed Sheppard.

He has a really nice move where when he is close to the basket and sees a slight opening he kinda dives toward the basket and throws up a layup. Don't see many players with that stop and dive layup that he has.

... and using both hands. Of 8 made layups - 4 were right-handed. That's impressive for a 19 yo lefty.

Spurs using Harper in whatever role we used him at previously is like us getting one of those Lazer measures but insisted on using a ruler (castle) to do the job, while using the Lazer measures to draw straight lines. It works, just not ideally. Now the Lazer measure is back to measuring and the ruler is back to drawing straight lines and surprise surprise, things are working once again.

Flagg has 40 and Knueppel has 28 vs each other going into the 4th. It's hard not to see Harper struggling compared to some of his cohort, but his role is much smaller.
