I don't get it, Harper shot over 40% on catch and shoot threes at Rutgers but he's worse than Castle shooting the three in the NBA. Has been a really discouraging month seeing him go from looking like a franchise point guard prospect to god forbid another Sochan.

It’s just tough because Kon has been so damn good. VJ been damn good. Flagg been unbelievable. I think Harper has been awesome too but due to team situation his stats don’t look the same as the other guys. But hes a winning player IMO. B
I think if he were the best rookie in a tight race, there’s no way they’d give the award to a Spur for the 3rd straight year. His numbers are almost immaterial at this point.

You must never have seen Sochans shot if you think Harper is another Sochan.

Looks to me, and I'm not afraid to say it, that Harper had turned a corner in recent games.

Harper's drives and Castle's aren't really that similar at all. Harper mostly manages to beat his guy off the dribble, Castle more relies on bully ball and good footwork.

I wonder who taught him basketball and if it was the guy who played in the nba who competed against grown men and has all this knowledge and skill to transfer.

Or his mom. Who is online.

Yeah, I like to call it the Power vs Finesse comparison. Castle is way on the Power side, while Harper is more on the Finesse side. Regarding the results it should not matter as much, but I believe Finesse ages better, while you want to bring some (Power-)Hammers to every battle, just to make sure the overall Energy is high.

You can also use it on Keldon and Vassell...or even on the two Wemby versions we are seeing (e.g. think game one vs Mavs).

I am still high on Harper...young PGs often need some time and he has shown a lot of promise. But just as Castle (and others), the 3pt shot has to come along...I miss Ship...but, well OKC has its own shooting problems.

I meant in the sense of a prospect we were so excited for who fell off a cliff.

Jeremy never was on any cliff. He fell off of a small pebble. Harper is a tremendous talent going through a rough stretch. It’s also a little tough to run point in the nba when you’re not old enough to drink.

There’s no reason whatsoever to worry about Harper’s prospects as a possible all nba guy. I even have faith his shooting comes around.

Harper actually plays very good defense. His on and off numbers even during his offensive slump has made him a net positive on defense. On offense..he has definitely turned a corner. Just needs more consistent minutes and also find his 3p shot.

Yes he does. The defensive potential of Castle/Harper is quite high, and add "Swipa" alongside Wemby and we could have the best team defense in the league in a year or two, which spells deep playoff run. I miss those days when we smothered the opponents offense.

Nothing I loved more than the old style Spurs defense when they were holding teams under well under 100 ppg (under 90ppg some seasons too). I loved the pressure and intensity of those games. They'd just keep turning up the pressure bit by bit and making it almost impossible for the other team to score, then the other team has to execute to keep up, and then if they can't, then they start crumbing and making unforced errors as more and more pressure is applied. Keep applying the pressure, then more pressure, keep turning those screws, and then seeing the other team crack and unravel within those high intensity games was great (was great watching Detroit do it too for those couple of seasons).

I don't know why the average fan doesn't like that type of play or like defense in general. I loved those type of games (that could also be because the Spurs were great at it and most other fan's teams couldn't do the same thing), and I thought it was awesome. Super hard fought victories like that were very satisfying too. A 4 point grind-it-out win felt like you really had to work your ass off to earn it.

Not trying to shift all of the blame away from Harper, because he has had plenty of poor performances where he’s just playing sloppy + missing shots…but I’d really like to see him get more minutes with Wemby and think that could help open things up for him.

Harper has played 300 minutes with Kornet this season and the Spurs’ net rating in those minutes is -5.9. In the 247 minutes where Harper/Wemby have shared the floor, that net rating is +29.2. Anecdotally it seems like Harper and Wemby haven’t been on the floor together much at all since Wemby returned from injury.

Again, not trying to act like Kornet is the reason Harper is in a slump :st-lol: Just think Harper could really take advantage of opposing teams focusing on Wemby, and the data so far this year certainly backs up the idea that they’re an effective duo.

Hell, even if they hadn’t done great together thus far I think it just makes sense to give them time to grow and get used to playing with each other.

Maybe this is clear to everyone and I’m late to the party, but, it just occurred to me that Harper’s minutes and rotation are staying consistent with Vassell’s return. He won’t be called upon to save the day much in the 4th quarter. I almost forgot that Vassell was missing. If he returns and we stay relatively healthy, we should win more games. Harper is probably being kept at a consistent rotational pattern for the bigger picture.

I'm perplexed and frustrated with Harper's lack of 4th quarter mins. His defense is stout, great handles, attitude seems exemplary, what am I missing? His 3-ball is not good, but, have you watched the rest of the team? He is often a momentum shifter and when he comes out we give it right back. 18 mins feels criminal for a number 2 pick, especially when year 2 Castle is auditioning for the National Bricklayer's Player of the Year Award and racking up insane TO numbers. This makes no sense.

Not to mention that even in just 17 minutes, he had more rebounds than anyone other than Wemby/Kornet...in a game where we got killed on the glass.

This was always going to be the case when he got drafted. You have 3 guards who can't shoot the 3 consistently. So no way was he going to play more than Fox and it would've been a long shot for him to take minutes away from the reigning ROTY. Honestly, this will be his role going forward for the next few years for these same reasons. Unless there's a trade, there will be no way he gets more minutes than Fox or Castle. This is what happens when you draft the same type player for positions you already have filled. These guys can't shoot, so they'll never play together for a long period of time on the floor. That means Harper will be the one getting less minutes.

This is the joke of the game, and it's a joke that Mitch keeps trying to pull off. Dylan was one of the key players to the comeback, yet this fucking coach goes with Steph who did jack shit all game. Brilliant coaching.

As much as I like Harper, I still don't understand this pick. We should've easily traded back for Kon, who we knew was a sharp shooter who would give the team the spacing that we need. Instead we went this best player available yada yada, and now we got a player who won't get as many minutes as the players ahead of him because they all play the same.

tbh if we drafted Kon, Mitch will have him off the bench with 10 mins per game and he gonna miss most of his shots and not be in the closing lineup :st-lol:

It is a coaching issue tbh

You might be right lol. Seems as if you learned some of Coach Pop's stubbornness.

Would you trade down from Jason Kidd to take Klay Thompson?

tbh dunno why I get the feeling that if we lucked out and drafted Flagg. Mitch will still play Flagg off the bench behind Barnes :st-lol:

The other 4 starters are also untouchable. Vic, Vassell, Fox, Castle. So sorry Flagg, you are off the bench
