Player The restricted-age video store section of Dylan Harper

One thing I’ve noticed in maybe the last two games is that both Harper and Castle have stopped trying to get to the rim on every possession. They’re both shooting middies now.
Yeah, I had just posted in the Utah grades thread a similar observation.

Hopefully Dylan isn’t the next Deandre Ayton and is up all night playing video games 😂

Edgecombe 36mpg.
Flagg 34mpg.
Knueppel 32mpg.
Harper - yet to play more than 30 minutes in a game.

He's Mitch's biggest victim.
Castle can make all the mistakes he wants without the ball being taken away from him, Harper gets benched as soon as he fucks up a couple of possessions.
Castle played at least 26 minutes in every game that wasn't a 30 point blowout and the game when he got injured.
Harper has 4 games with 26 or more minutes.

Obviously it would've been difficult to play Harper last night since Amen is too big for him, but the moment of frustration will come real soon considering he's obviously a way more intelligent player on the ball than Castle and the only natural floor general we have.

And it's not just about minutes, but having to play in terrible bench lineups Mitch decides to use because every scrub deserves charity minutes.

He’ll make up for fewer minutes by getting to the playoffs. None of the rest will.

It is pretty odd seeing a 2'nd pick getting such little playing time but gotta trust the process I guess.

with sheppard's hot hand yesterday not sure how much this would've helped, but really wished harper was more of a gnat on defense when matched against him. You can feel in the moment sheppard was itching to shoot. I feel harper had the quickness to just shut him out from getting the touches he got, but didn't respect him enough to play that close or intense.

Sheppard's first 3 in the second half came from Castle falling asleep and losing him, there weren't even any screens.

Not sure playing Dylan only 13 mn against a weak opponent is the way to go to get him out of his slump.

If Harper needs a breather, just get him out of the rotation for a couple of games so he can work with the coaches...

Whether the Spurs are playing the long run... Victor mn restriction, Castle primary ball handler etc... but then you play your 2nd pick enough mn even if he struggles or you look at winning now.. pick a lane Mitch

Mitch last season also suddenly reduced Castle's min significant after the all star weekend.

I recall it was about 5 to 8 games...I thought Castle had no chance for ROY race since Mitch reduced his min. But after that 5 to 8 games, he ramped up Castle's min again and ROY was in the bag

I think once he develops a mid-range or floater he will be fine. He has no issues getting to the basket.

I did not remember so I went to check. In fact Castle started to see less minutes (30 ish to 20ish) from December 15th to January 8th with a low of 7 mn Dec 29th against Min. As for Dylan except this game and a game at Min (11mn) he has been regularly on 20 mn+

Castle played 81 games in first year while Harper did not play 10 games already so there is that.

It will be interesting nevertheless to see if there is a rookie wall kinda treatment and if Harper will see less mn in the next games

I went to check Victor 1st year... He played 30+ ish mn untill December 17th then he played on low side of 25 mpg during 1 month. It has to be noted that during this stretch he missed some games here and there.

I'm not sure there is a clear Spurs FO pattern here but it may very well be some min restriction in this period of so called rookie wall.

It was beyond frustrating to see Mitch trot out fucking Jordan McLaughlin for multiple stints. Don’t think that should ever happen unless it’s garbage time or Harper is injured.

Harper has definitely hit a rookie wall but he still is showing flashes of being a great player. The more minutes the better, particularly against poorer teams where we have a little more leeway. Not saying he needs to be getting 25+ mpg come playoff time but no reason McLaughlin should be in there while Fox/Castle/Harper are all healthy.

The breather comes this summer. He’s likely going to struggle the rest of the way because 4-5 days off will not reset his psychology. But he’s also going to contribute and show flashes of what’s in store. He’s just not going to be perfect.

This version of him is still better than trotting out Tre jones.

Especially since DJG is stuck in G-league, averaging 28ppg.
As we've seen he's also a solid defender, I'm not sure why aren't we converting his deal and waiving McLaughlin.

JM can fucking shoot. We’ve been struggling with that since Vassell went out. Thi is one of those cases where development and winning are incompatible in the moment.

He's got 7 made 3s this season in 116 minutes played.
He can shoot, but we're not utilizing it enough to warrant him being on the floor since he's too small and gets exploited on the other end.

He’s got two seasons over40%, so teams are probably not going to sag off him. Even a threat spaces the floor.

It’s just tough because Kon has been so damn good. VJ been damn good. Flagg been unbelievable. I think Harper has been awesome too but due to team situation his stats don’t look the same as the other guys. But hes a winning player IMO. B

Maybe Harper's conditioning only allows him to play 13 mpg

He's just a shorter version of Castle, but doesn't do as many turnovers. All he can do is drive into double and triple teams, the throw up a prayer while flailing. Fucking winning basketball. Then his smoking hot but basketball illiterate mom teaching him to not shoot the ball but only drive, put in some absolute dog shit instincts. He needs to break that stupid habit and learn to shoot, learn to pass, not foul bait.
