Not surprised he's already better than Castle offensively, but am I surprised that he might be as good or better defensively and might be starter caliber.

This could be be Fox's first and only full season as a Spur.

Flagg (imo) is this generation’s Scottie Pippen. He’s not a number 1 of a true contender but man he would be dominant as your two guy.

Harper being a one man fast break is a thing of beauty to watch. I’m excited for it. He reminds me of a young Manu in that he’s crafty. He still has no jumper though but I’m okay with him just trying to get to the rim at all times since he has very good court awareness. Hopefully by year 5 he gets a good midrange jumper.

Yeah Ive seen enough, this kid should be starting while Fox is out. He is clearly worlds better than Castle as an actual PG. Second game in a row he willed the team to a win with his play. Very impressive stuff from the rook

Agree. I don’t really think he’s better than Flagg, but it’s close.

Harper would have fit the Mavs perfectly, and Flagg would have fit the Spurs perfectly.

Once Ason Kidd (no J) gets his head out of his ass and plays Flagg at his natural portion as a 4 or a 3, he will look much better. Flagg is looking like 22-23 Sochan out there as a PG not having a clue what the fuck he’s doing.

Harper will inevitably end up being our #2 for the contender years that are coming. Castle needs to realize this and put all his efforts on being a difference maker as a defensive guard. If he does that, he could establish himself as the 3rd player in importance and become a borderline all-star ala Jrue Holiday.

Fox is needed for the time being, but there will come a time, with Harper's development, where packaging Fox for a starting level 3 and D forward will become the route to go.

I agree he needs to be starting and lead ball handler til Fox is back, I just don't think he should displace Castle...Barnes is my concern. He is closing in on 34 and when father time comes for vets it isn't gradual. I'd give him another couple games to get right, but this version of Barnes playing 30 mpg seriously handicaps our outlook.

So from what I can see, Steph is training with Olin (The Guard Whisperer) to be an SGA type of player. I don't want to be telling him he can't do that. It's too early. You got to let all these guys try and develop into their potential of what they can become.
You can't just tell Steph that it's, you gotta be a role player now or have a specific role. He's still got to be allowed to see if he can realize his potential. Devin, Keldon, all these guys had their chance and now they have to fit into roles. You can't put that on Steph this early.

Dylan's doing great, though, and I want him out there even more. I'd rather Dylan just get more minutes to start with than chop and change as Fox will be starting when he comes back. Unless the Spurs want to start Fox, Castle, Harper, I'd rather not change it up too much for Dylan as he's playing better and better game by game in the current role. I also don't think the bench would be too good without him.

The crazy thing about HAARP is that he’s a rookie playing his third NBA game but also rescuing us from a 1-2 record. He doesn’t look like a rookie. At all. He might not be as loud in the stat sheet as a Flagg or Edgecomb, but from the miniscule sample size we have, the dude contributes to winning basketball.

I'd be in absolutely no rush to get Harper into the starting squad. Castle is going to play very well alongside Fox, giving the backups another nice point guard coming in. Castle is also still learning and growing: he's only a rookie plus three games, too.

Even when Fox returns Castle makes more sense in the starting lineup because he's a tweener guard and not a true PG like Harper.

Put Castle in the Manu playing next to TP role and Harper in the Manu coming off the bench role.

Barnes is functionally a small at this point in his decline. HB has 6 rebounds in 90 mins this season, Castle has 19 rebounds in 92 mins. HB shooting @ 43% from 3 has a starting spot...barely. HB shooting 3s at 35% just doesn't make sense for a big role anymore. Love the dude, but getting nostalgic about players is how you end up in the lottery every season.

Pop had to have the same conversation with Steve Smith in 2003; Stephen Jackson was ascending and Smitty was 33 and didn't have his fastball anymore. Pop didn't get sentimental, he did what needed to be done and we got a ring out of it.

Agreed. The main takeaway looks to be is that Mitch is OK with unleashing Harper and Castle with all the minutes they deserve. All the pre-season predictions about each of them getting less than 25 minutes per game look less and less likely. These two will play a lot.
