Player The restricted-age video store section of Dylan Harper

its not even the minutes, its the role. he is often playing secondary ballhandler to fox/castle when out there. now if he was getting minutes AND clear lead guard duties during thos minutes, his production would be through the roolf. likely at the cost of efficiency, sure.
Fox almost always defers to whatever young guard he’s with, unless it’s crunch time. That was one of the things I really appreciated about CP3 last year. Castle would inbound the ball, and CP3 would bounce it right back to him, and run up the court.

i think CP3 also didnt want to deal with the hassle of bringing the ball up the court tbh :st-lol:

Grown men giggling like little girls about defensive ratings (in the middle part of the video). LOVE IT...and also love that they say, you would have to take Harper at #2 again. Some (media) folks would take Kon but I'm with these guys.

Putting four parts of information into a graphic with two graphs is always fun, isn't it?

So Dylan is taking the most shots at the rim (of these players...only guards?) while finishing them at about an average quality, but having them at a difficult quality...and all of that while playing about 25 minutes?

Guess it tells us, that he likes to go to the basket.

Not sure, but should he target to be more green than purple even if he becomes more left than right, thus making him go up, even though his spot becomes larger in upcoming seasons? 🙃

I hate how it's already looking eerily similar to Harden OKC situation..You know he is just too talented and too good for his role and that he could spread his wings immediately if given the opportunity. Not sure when will it happen but the Harper vs Fox decision is going to have to be made eventually.
I highly doubt the Spurs would be idiotic enough to chose their own version of Perkins over Harper. They’re gonna do everything in their power to keep all 3 franchise players. Love Fox but it’s a no brainer who’s gonna be more important to keep in a couple of years.

It'd be interesting to see how if the finishing rate has changed over the season. I get the impression a lot of rookie guards struggle with finishing early on.

Yeah i have no doubt the Spurs will choose Harper over Fox, but I'm just curious about the window/timing in which they will pull the trigger. One thing for sure: the Spurs will do good by him and send him to a good situation/attractive market (think of Miami, Brooklyn, maybe even Houston where he resides, making an exception to their 'no big trade with a West team' rule). Fox is a Spurs material and has been an exemplary teammate. He leveraged his way here at a low-cost assets-wise, so I expect the Spurs to accommodate him for his next move..

To bad harper cant show his full potential because of. Limited minutes and playing off the bench.

But also kinda awesome he's stepping into a winning culture and not only contributing as a rookie, but leveling up ahead of the playoffs. Honestly, I doubt he'd trade positions with Kon or Coop. The future is bright in San Antonio and he's gonna get his. It's obvious.

Just to add to this, it's not like he ain't getting love. He won some Rookie of the Month ish, and he's earning high praise from a lot of podcasts I enjoy, like Vecenie. People who know ball know he's legit.

Point is, he's needed more minutes than he's received. I don't see why his average hasn't been around 25 minutes and games he's played well, why not give him 30 minutes?
In a way, it feels like he gets the rookie treatment.

He's getting about 22 minutes. I would probably give him more if I was the coach. But I ain't all that mad about it. It's cool he's hitting his catch and shoot threes and finishing well the last 20 games but it wasn't always like that, and spacing is a thing with this team. The outside threat of people like Vassell creates more opportunities, even if it doesn't always show up in the box score the way Dylan does. I do kinda feel he's earned more minutes tho, this run has been pretty fire.

Yeah, I see what you saying, but my rule of thumb (since he's been so good nearly all season apart from that little slump he had that may or may not have been a slight rookie wall thing), he should be getting at least 50% court time, so about 24 minutes or more.
I can't dispute what you said about his outside shooting and the team need more spacing, but who knows if Dylan would have improved faster if he got more minutes.

Wait unti he wants more money.

:st-lol:

It wasn’t his best game, but I was actually fairly encouraged by tonight. He still showed a consistent ability to get good looks at the rim, but just couldn’t finish for shit. Had a couple bad bounces with the rim and just some dumb easy misses, but he’s proven to be elite at finishing all year so if he’s consistently getting to the rim then good things will happen. He also stayed engaged defensively despite the rough night on offense which was nice to see.
