I’m willing to be patient with Mitch for a bit longer, though I agree with others that hearing the same kind of generalities from Mitch after each loss does not inspire confidence that much strategy goes into his coaching—I hope more strategizing goes on behind the scenes without our knowledge. In his defense, I think the reporters at postgame interviews typically ask pretty unintelligent questions whose answers do not reveal much. Frankly, I often can quickly think up questions that would be more revealing and read fan questions here that would be more revealing. The same goes for questions directed to players. And the fact that current players are not as articulate as Ginobili, Duncan, and Parker were contributes to postgame interviews that are not very interesting or revealing.
 
It takes experience, attentiveness and an eye for detail to identify the right time to make a challenge. Mitch got none of those.

Tbf, a lot of it is on the second row assistants.
They're the ones watching the replays right away and suggesting if the call should be challenged.
 
It is interesting that for the most part the success rate on both the good and bad ends kind of matches who are considered to be the best and worst coaches and coaching staffs. Spurs and Bulls really do seem to want to save those challenges for the next game, don't they.
 
Mitch also showed he was more willing to ride the hot hands and hot lineups in this game. He’s learning. I kept expecting him to mess up that 3rd quarter run and make substitutions but he let them ride a long time.

We get the premier player of the last 20 years and they decide to hire a Pop Yes Man who has to learn absolute basics on the job for the build. Shameful.
Notice you "kept expecting" Mitch to f it up. A lot of us did too. That is a major problem.

Thrilled we won and glad he left the hot players in (duh uh basic coaching) but isn't it sad when we have to rejoice when he performs the absolute basics and doesn't turn a W into an L?

He turned an L into a W, because this team was down 10 at halftime. According to the players he yelled at them and it worked. He's making progress.

ime is a good coach. This is just how stupid NBA fans typically are. They don't know what to blame it on, and the coach is just their usual target. It happens with every fucking coach and its hilarious.

Ime is a younger Thibs.
Playing KD 37mpg is just asking for trouble.
37-37-35-34mpg for their 4 best players.

Spurs are at 32-31-31-29.
But it's not Ime's fault when his players are dead on their feet in most 4th quarters.
He's a flawed coach, but the Rockets also have a flawed roster.
I'm not sure how much of an input he had in that regard.

I was against the Mitch Johnson hire from the beginning. I thought this guy was supposed to be an offensive-minded coach? the offense is so fucking generic. When this team plays well offensively (a rare occurrence), it’s usually due to one player just going off. What does Mitch actually do?

I feel like it’s a weird mix of seniority + trying to keep Fox and castle happy (don’t know why we have to placate castle he’s only a year older). Harper blows castle out of the water as a real PG…castle should just be our 3 and be happy with it…
 
Maybe it's yet another promise. Maybe Castle and his people asked the team to give him a shot at PG this season. I don't know, I just don't know. I was all for it up to the start of this month, but when it started regressing and not working as well, the fact that they're still doing it, I don't understand why.

It just seems like a promise, as so far, they're not straying from it no matter what.
