Castle's decision making needs some work as well
Blah Blah Blah,
You guys and even Sean Elliot were all about how "scarry it was he so easily got to the basket" as if he were Rook Micheal Jordan but 10x better.

Maybe you were all just wrong on your assessments... Including the douche who twatted or is it Xed?

And don't give me some shit about him being 19 and Jordan being blah blah as a rookie, spare me

He is a talented rookie, but my god, this was recency bias on steroids.

Mitch still sucks
and umm... They brought in a Coach to Fix the Defense... because mitch couldn't
a guy who was poised to take over as HC in Dallas.... may still

Again, Mitch still sucks
The Spurs could win it all, he'll still Suck.

oh look we won. Who would've thought giving the ball to Fox results in better offense?

G-woeFmXMAATK3X
What I like here is not only how Fox's increase in USG resulted in better offensive flow, but also how it proves that Steph doesn't need super high usage to be effective. He's obviously not going to have an 80% TS% game in and game out, but it just goes to show that the ball-dominant Kobe Castle is not at all necessary or conducive to our offensive flow.

One game happens where Castle has low usage and has a strong night and everybody goes, “See guys, it’s better when he has low usage.” That’s a pretty premature conclusion off one game. One result isn’t a trend. If later on there’s a real stretch of games showing the same thing, that’s a real argument. But right now it’s just people going “see!” off a single night…

exactly and it doesn't hurt his numbers neither. They actually look better

Clearly, the talent, the clay, is there. Blowing 19-point leads, having three consecutive top four lottery picks, winning two consecutive ROYs, trading for a Clutch Player of the Year, and having a heart-and-soul guy who built himself into a potential Sixth Man of the Year candidate. Oh, let’s not forget the team beat the boogeymen of the 2025–2026 season in three straight games, ending some historic streak of theirs. I know you can trade for head coaches, but that hardly ever happen, and it won’t happen here. We just need a better sculptor, that’s all. A ceramic artist. Right now, Mitch is just throwing clay around.

A Coaching Trade is what needs to happen.

But hey, don’t let me get in the way of swapping your favorite scapegoat for some pie-in-the-sky “all-world talent” to “win now,” or whatever the internet geniuses like Zach Lowe, Shams, or that Tubby guy are preaching. Those guys are right less often than a broken clock… on daylight savings time.

I didn’t even mention how good Kornet has been. Well, I guess I just did.

Everybody knows the factoid thrown around about the male frontal lobe. Its become a Trope.
Cliche.

From my perspective, and as a Man at my age, even guys like Jones Garcia at 24 still seem like babies.

That being said, Mitch has no excuses. I have the same thought about some of you commenters who choose to make pithy responses to my post about the team.

With so much talent on this team with Wemby, Castle, Fox, Harper, Johnson, and Kornet it feels like even a coach as seemingly incompetent as Mitch could make it to the Finals Eventually. The current record isn’t surprising. Yet there are still commentators, wannabe bloggers, and podcasters who don’t believe in Wemby despite everything he’s shown. Expecting them to appreciate how rare it is to have players like Harper and Castle on rookie deals alongside Fox is probably a futile exercise.

I don’t know how many times you commenters, like the guy above, have have to watch 25-point leads vanish while this walking, talking Dunning-Kruger/Peter Principal head coach just wanders around with a bewildered look on his face. To understand this guy
Sucks
Stinks
is a Bust
And yes, he has enough talent that if the front office doesn’t cave to pressure to trade it away for pie-in-the-sky, harebrained deals, like the ones the commenter above seems to roll around in the Spurs Trade thread (Like a pig in shit), he could even win a championship. Mitch still will...
suck.
Stink
and be a Bust.

He obviously knows a thing or two on how to design an offense, but he gets completely lost whenever something unexpected is thrown at him and can't make adjustments.
Early zone from the Timberwolves took us off guard, not playing Fox more (Wemby was probably on a minutes restriction) while the ship was sinking is inexcusable.

Should've been a top assistant and not the head coach. We can only hope he figures it out by 2027 playoffs because there's absolutely no chance Spurs fire him.

boy is he terrible.. would rather see every franchise player go for career highs, than play sochan

I don’t understand how your team can consistently come out of timeouts without a good play, and sometimes, it seems some spurs players don’t even know what play is being run out of the timeout. That is inexcusable. That type of shit never happened under Pop (at least not during the Duncan years)

OMG!
I’ll give partial credit to the local media, but more to the follow-up "besides victor hitting a bunch of shots "guy. Besides Victor hitting a bunch of shots, he actually asked this fraud a few semi hard questions. The answers to the first and the follow-up? Still has Mitch looking completely baffled. What a self-own that perfectly highlights his incompetence.
He has no clue

"Start of the 3rd Quater was Nonchalant"
Well, mitch, what are you saying and doing in the locker room?
"Thorns in sides,
Depth of experiences
Wisdom
accomplishments"
"Lacking in things... we can't control"

How convenient, uncontrollable things.

"Playing Defense without fouling"

Those fouls on Castle and others were complete bullshit, Mitch. God forbid you get a tech or get thrown out for it. We know "it’s not who we are" to complain at the mic before or after the game... Such complete bullshit on that too.

the trend would be the stretch of the season when our offense was doing great and it was Fox running the show most nights

I hate SA reporters so much.
Mitch just keeps parroting about sticking to the gameplan and executing well, playing with intensity etc.
Is it too hard to ask him why isn't that the case in most games we get a 15+ point lead?

they should ask him question in the form of : "given x do you intend to change y?" "given x why didn't you attempt to do y?"

We don’t need reporters to start acting like coaches

That’s a big generalization that ignores many factors, such as counting games where Castle was out while Wemby was out too. It’s not a convincing argument.

When someone comes into the organization with the nickname Big Nasty and is known as a defensive coach with a specialty in defensive rebounding and that team goes to the top of the league in that category, I think Assistant COTY might be in order. Pretty remarkable that we've improved this much in half a season. Also, is he hitting the smelling salts before games?

Agree on the rebounding. Spurs have been in a much better place this season. Effort and techniques have improved.

Was his pre-game routine what the broadcast was about when Jacob Tobey tried the smelling salts before a game started "for the experience" and Sean was politely suggesting it wasn't a good idea?

If you're not thinking the same thing, you should be—unless you're the type who still writes endless posts in Spurs Trade Threads or tries to take ownership of other people's thoughts about this team.

Mitch Sucks

Bring Tiago Home

He’s on an assistant coach’s contract, the ownership is in turmoil, and if Billups is dirty, it’s likely others in that organization are too—just not named Tiago Splitter.

Lets move the fuck on from the Simulator Coaches..... already

Crusty....you've got the correct user name!

I think Mitch has some learning to do, for sure, and my guess is that he'd admit that too. I think we gave away a couple of games due to some questionable substitution choices, and I agree that not all of his adjustments (or lack of adjustments) late in games have been flawless.

That said, the Spurs are exceeding expectations for the wins, we're at the top in win percentage against the rest of the league's elite, and he seems to have the backing of his players, which is more than half the battle in today's NBA.

Could the Spurs still implode? Sure. But so far I think he's done a pretty good job coaching this team.

I don't see him going anywhere soon, so you might just need to chill on the extra dose of the Mitch Johnson Haterade.
