A discussion of why young players fail in the NBA. This speaks to players like Cam Thomas and Jonathan Kuminga. Cam’s best eFG% is 51, and his best TS% is 57. That’s fairly inefficient, but he was being given all those touches by a tanking team.

It’s true though. I’m sure plenty of players have better skills than say a kornet or a champaigne, but korndog ang champ know their roles and they do it well. Say a guy like emoji bates have a smooth one on one game but he doesn’t know how to fit in a team and that means there is no room in the league for him. James wiseman never figured it out but Bagley did, one is out of the league while the other is a decent role player now.

A bunch of guys are just surrounded by yes man since they can wipe their own ass and this is what they get. It’s not a recent development either as it’s been like that forever. Harold minor, Joe Barry Carroll, olowakandi, most of that disastrous 1986 draft.

Emoji Bates is pure gold…😆

What everyone is ignoring it starts at the AAU level and just manifest from there just saying. The real change needs to start at that level way before the NBA

Perfectly stated. I have no doubt that my man Charles Bassey is more physically gifted and probably more skilled than Luke Kornet... but Luke knows how to play team basketball way better than Charles and that's why one is a key role player and the other bounces from 10-day to 10-day.

Dennis Rodman scored like 27 points per game when he was in college. Bruce Bowen tore up the pro leagues in Europe before he came to the NBA.

Everybody's great in the NBA and it's the guys who understand that and can mold their game and shelve their ego for the good of the team that end up doing well.

Patrick Beverly is also a good example. He averaged 37 points per game in high school but found a way to carve out a long NBA career because he accepted his role.

Modern basketball is an IQ game. If you can't read the floor and make the right decisions you're not gonna make it.

The only thing that will drive that change is to have the highly hyped fail repeatedly for a decade. The demise of GLI, and the general meh of OTE players is a good start.
